How do you determine the value of a figure?

I guess this post goes here? And before anyone asks, those two are not for sale, just thought they would be fun to use for the photo~
So, I'm cleaning out my room and have a ton of figures I'm going to sell. I thought this would be a good place to do it but, I'm having a hard time coming up with prices for some of them. I have some figures that I guess are actually kind of rare now but, I don't know if I can just go off of the prices on ebay (since a lot of those tend to be bootlegs).
Do all of you sell your figures for about what you got them? If you have a rare figure, do you sell it for a higher price, and if so, how do you figure out how much to sell it for?

I've wondered this too... not that I want to have to sell any of my girls. But I have a few that are pretty rare now, hell I forked out a vaguely hefty some for them over a year ago, so I do wonder how the increase in pricing works, if it does at all lol
Yeah, I want to price them so I get a decent amount off them (need a car, might move in the future, you know, life :T) but, I also don't want to price them ridiculously high.
hmm . . . just find the average price and sell it for half. make sure it's not buy it now, so you have a nice bidding war.
Go to eBay for a fair market value, whatever other people are selling theirs for, and go from there. For such a niche market, the prices are kind of up to the seller. If someone really wants it, there's no price too high!
a lot of things are taken into consideration like "was it a popular figure that is no longer in production?" and "is it still in the box in mint condition?" just look around to see how much the figure is being sold for and make your own judgment for the price.
Quantity, Demand and Quality. Release too many and the price will drop, higher demand usually comes with a higher price and well quality speaks for itself. Koto's recent quality sure did piss off a lot of people :S eBay is a decent place to sell I guess, but not when they take a small percentage of your profits *Booooo!!* Everyone's nightmare is shipping, especially International buyers. I tend to give some leniency on figure pricing to buyers when shipping is really expensive. Anyways, based on the above, good luck pricing your figures!
I guess it does come down to, are you trying to make money off them or just trying to clear out space for more things. That's where the difference lays in business and personal sales.
Like take your miku, that's a fairly rare one and can go as high as 100 bucks. But if your just trying to make room you could get ways with selling her for about 50 bucks and get a lot of ppl wanting it. Then comes in time frame. When did you wanna sell these figures by? That's also a factor that needs to be taken into account. I also look up prices on Mandrake since they deal with the new and used figures and has some good prices for importing figures.
But of course these are just factors, if you don't know put them up as you feel and test the waters, then just bring them down at your own pace or just keep posting them. It's either no one wants to pay the price or are broke and waiting to get more money.
eBay is the worst place to get fair market value, everything is very overpriced there. As Deedo mentioned, check average prices on mandarake, as well as yahoo auctions japan. Figures are for collectors, and collectors don't buy off eBay in general, they buy from JP sources, or from communities like figure.fm. Find out the yen price, convert to dollars. You will be ahead of the price curve in shipping costs alone.
