Figma Photography

Posted by AlbinoGrimby [www]

I was playing around with my Figmas and trying to photograph them in impossible poses again. Here's a batch of images that I thought turned out pretty well.

If you want to know more about how I did it and see more photos, I did a write-up on a blog I created with a bunch of friends called Drawing Meats. Follow this link to the writeup.

As for Drawing Meats, we're a small circle of friends and we enjoy doing creative projects together and individually. My pet project for the last two weeks was trying to photograph Figmas in all kinds of outrageous poses. I saw a photomanip on deviantArt where a girl was floating over a table, and thought that might be fun to try with Figmas.

The results below:

This one isn't perfect. If you scrutinize it closely you can find some flaws here and there, but overall I like this one a lot. She's nicely balanced on the bike and it looks ridiculous.

Here's the two photos I took to composite. Keep this in mind if you try it out, the photos of the subject and of the background should be exactly the same position and angle. You can see my background only image is tilted and that made compositing the images harder. You can also see I had to remove a lot of elements like the mouse, Fluxx game set, and Figma stand to create the illusion of her standing on her own.

Very nice. Do you use a tripod? Or just try your hardest without one? :o

Yes, I use a tripod. If not, just find something to hold your camera in position. I wouldn't bother without one, since I want both images to be the exact same angle and position.

Hmm...truth be told I haven't used the smudge tool in ages. I always feel that you can tell when the smudge tool has been used since it won't look natural. I used the clone tool and the spot healing tool to try and fix up some of the troublesome spots. But...when I see them, they are still troublesome... :/
