Need Help Shopping for a PSP

Hi everyone! I need help with something.

Ok, I've been considering getting a PSP for a while now. They never appealed to me in the past, but I now have one Japanese PSP game and two others on preorder because of those pesky limited figma bundles. I wasn't planning on getting one to play the games until I could read Japanese, but Fate/Extra was recently released in English and it's seriously tempting me. Anyway, I figured I should go ahead and get one now so that I can play Fate/Extra and BRS the Game when it comes out. The problem is, I know nothing about PSPs. I see several on Amazon.com, but I'm not sure which one to buy. I don't really care about having the latest and greatest, I just want one that I can play Fate/Extra(and later BRS the Game) on. So would someone mind telling me which one I should buy and about how much they cost? ^^' Also, would I be able to play imported Japanese games on it?

Thank you for helping and reading that useless paragraph ^^

Get a used 1. usually for about $60-$80 from private sellers or about $100 from chain stores. the models they come in really mean nothing, only difference is weight (though the last 1 has a mic built in but generally useless)

PSP is region-free so, you could play games from any region :)

As for which model to buy... currently only 2 models of PSPs are on sale: the 3000 series and the PSP Go. Since you've already bought some games, your only option is the PSP 3000, since PSP Go doesn't have a UMD (game disc) drive.

For the price... I can't really help since I never buy any game console online ^^; maybe some other members could point you to some preferrable online stores.

The price should be around US$129.99 btw. :)

Thank you for the help ^^

So, do you recommend the 3000 because it's the best quality PSP I could buy and would be worth the money or would any older used model work just as well? Alot of people have suggested that I buy one secondhand.

Region free to any and all PSP games. You just can't play any international UMD movies on the PSP. That's pretty much the only thing region locked. And PSP 3000 is usually $60-$150 is usually a price I've seen on ebay. $150 for just a new PSP 3000, $200-$300 for any games bundled with it (new).

If you're located in US, just search in your local Craigslist, since it's from private sellers you can find cheap prices or talk to the owner and agree on a deal, best deal is between $50 - $80 for console, battery and charger, anything else is extra. (Don't pay more than $60 for PSP-1001 or first gen, it's not worth that much anymore)

Get a PSP-3k, or if your able to get one second hand, a 2k model(If you plan on hacking it for the homebrew and nicer themes). Don't bother with PSP-Go's as they don't have the UMD slots and your obviously going to be playing UMD games. The PSP's also region free for games which is good for importing and now the PSP's also hacked up the latest firmwares I think and there are also lot of amusing homebrew games out there for a fresh of breath air from Fate/Extra.

Don't waste your money on a new one, unless you have money to burn. The PSP is dead in the US, with the vita coming out in a few months. I would highly recommend a used one, as they will be even cheaper soon (Black Friday Liquidations). Also, I would recommend the digital version of any new PSP game (Fate Extra is cheaper digitally, and BRS will be digital only), since digital PSP games will work on the vita, if you ever get one, and UMD games will not.

Thank you for the help ^^

Just how much cheaper is Fare Extra digitally? Also, would a new game work on any model of PSP that I can buy used?

Fate Extra is $25 Digitally, $30 Standard UMD, $40 Limited Edition UMD.

Any PSP game will work on any PSP model. Most used models will be the slimmer 2000 and 3000 series.

Just like the others mentioned, a PSP 3000 (3004) would be the best deal. And since they're region free, you can play any game on them. I play BRS The Game on my European PSP, for example. 8)
