Evangelion World @ Fuji-Q Highland
Evangelion World is a very cool place to visit if you are an Eva fan and ever find yourself near Mt. Fuji or want a day trip from Tokyo. Its situated only a few minutes from Kawaguchi-ko (a fantastic lakeside town and a great base to climb Fuji-san from) and is about an hour and a half on the bus from Shinjuku.
The main attraction is a lifesize bust of Eva Unit-01.

Evangelion World is situated in Fuji-Q Highland, which is a cool themepark right near Mt.Fuji.
As you can see, it features many crazy rollercoasters.
It has other themed areas like a Gundam World and a Thomas The Tank Engine Land, if that's your kind of thing.
You can get a day pass for 5000 Yen or so, or simply pay 1000 Yen entry fee and then pay separately for each ride - Evangelion World is 800 Yen.

Evangelion World looms ahead.

I wish they had this calendar for sale.
You can get much exclusive merch and UGC Coffee cans here.

And this is what we shall see.
I'll take you on a tour around:

Upon entering you a greeted with this excellent statue of Eva Unit-01 and the Lance of Longinus.

It is a really exellent statue. Bigger than a person.

You then enter the chamber of SEELE. Many many people were pretending to be Ikari and having their photo taken sitting in the chair. You are surrounded by all the "sound only" pillars. This room serves as a central hub for all the exhibits.

They have a large Lilith you can stick your head in and take a picture of.

And they have a very cool lifesize Mari.

And yeah, I did take my photo with her too...

They also have a lifesize Kawaru.

Before the main events, you can see a carboard cut out of the planning room, I think you are meant to place yourself to the right of Misato for a picture.

You then enter a hall to see a lifesize model of Unit-02 in The Beast mode.

Crazy to see this is 1:1 scale.

But doesn't look fully realistic because its in a bit of an action pose.

You then have to enter the NERV gates on your way to seeing the main event - Unit-01 in the Cage.

You pass lots of coridoors with displays of classic scenes like this one of Kaji asking Shinji-kun out on a date.

And the classic elevator scene.

And, of course, before you enter the cage, the classic Rei changing into her plugsuit...
Time for the main event...

The lifesize Eva Unit-01 bust.
Its mocked up to be in the Cage where Shinji first encounters it.

Here's a person for scale.

What's cool is that while you are in there, the whole thing plays out a scene. They have screens showing Misato et al in the control room shouting out instructions. The whole thing is a test run of the dummy plug and lasts 5-10 minutes. The lights go crazy, Unit-01 makes some incredible sounds, smoke pours out etc. Its a real show.

They have a little boat in the red liquid stuff too.

It is very impressive. Much better in real life than in the photos I viewed beforehand.

After the main event you emerge into this large display area.

Its full of production sketches you weren't allowed to take photos of ;p

It has Ikari's SDAT player.

Mari's glasses.

Some more sketches. Each area was laid out per character.

Asuka's doll.

More sketches... it was very cool.

You could pay more money to get your photo taken in this entry plug thing.

And then its time for the shop! They had loads of stuff on sale.

And a large range of Eva figures as well, loads more than I show here.

And thats it - you're outside with the rollercoasters again!
Hope you enjoyed the tour - I really enjoyed Evangelion World and its really worth a visit if you are an Eva fan visiting Japan - especially as its right next to Kawaguchi-ko, which is one of my favourite places to relax in Japan :)

Bet his fan girls would love this.
Haha yeah, saw quite a few fangirls there taking their photo with it
Wow! Some really unforgettable scenes there.
Looks amazing. Would be the dream location to get Evangelion cosplay pictures.
Now that you mention it, I didn't see any cosplayers there at all. Maybe the Japanese want to go on the rollercoasters as well - but that would work in a plugsuit as well!
A wall of just Gendo <3 <3 <3 Fantasy!
You're breaking the rurrruuu.
Yeah...
The sketches and items were just too tempting...
I'd pay a bajillion dollars to sit in this thing for 12 seconds.
I would if it was in an entry plug which went into their Unit-01 and some simulator started. That would be awesome.
I have to go to this! <3
:)
It was well worth visiting - I really enjoyed it.
Wow, really cool place to visit. The life size EVA bust looks amazing.
Looks like they upgraded the house. I went in 2010, and there was no elevator scene, no Mari, no UNIT 02. But I sure paid to get my photo taken in the entry plug seat :)
