The Dragon Ronin

Posted by MatX [www]

The Dragon Ronin was a project I started in 2009 as my entry to the then-called BAKUC. I wasn't able to finish it in time and set it aside to work on later. I rebooted The Ronin and this time made it (barely) to the GBWC.

The original concept has always been centered on the idea of a samurai shrine, with a torii gate. Several sections of the armor (skirts, shoulder armor) were all scratch built. This time around, I've made heavy improvements on the armor design, but "simplifying" it in the process, removing much of the articulation and gimmicks that caused the delays two years ago. I've also made improvements on the arm shields, the Dragon Claw and the Dragon Tail, and the shoulder armor, including the Dragon Head which converts to a beam sword.

I've also redesigned the Dragon Bow into a separate long bow weapon and separated the shotgun part and called it the Dragon Boomstick.

The Scales on the "rabbit ears" were done by wrapping the part up with Tamiya mesh after it has been primed with flat black, then buffered with nickel alloy, then left to dry for at least 30 minutes before the mesh was removed. It's then coated with Candy Tone red (in this case, Bosny Honda Red 67), which is semi transparent, and bleeds into the black.

The Dragon Claw shield is one of the arm shields of the Ronin.

It's done by cutting several pieces of thin plaplate into that basic shape and laying them alternately over one another with cement.
