Couple of questions from a Noob
Hiya ^_^
I am new to collecting BJDs. I don't have one yet but am currently looking into getting my first >.<
Okay, so for my questions;
1.) In your opinion, which is the best brand of BJD and why?
2.) Where is the best place to buy a second hand BJD or a complete BJD?
3.) Is it hard to do a face up yourself? I am an artist, as you can see.
4.) If your doing your own face up, can you remove something if you mess up?
5.) What is a Den of Angel? I keep hearing people say this and I have no idea what it is... Is it a type of BJD?
Thank you soo much >.<

1.) I like obitsus the most. they are cheap and easy to replace parts if they get broken.
2.) Den of angels if you are a member, if not just on ebay and other doll forums.
3.) not to hard but you will probably need to do a couple to get good.
4.) you use sealers like mr super clear and others that are recomended so you can clean off a mistake without taking away what you have allready sealed.
5.) Den of angels is one of the largest doll Forums. but most of the time their registrations are closed or invite only.
anything else just ask we should be able to help.
Oh and i am with a forum that is allways open it is called angel-unlimited just google it and join if you like we are very friendly on there and happy to help new bjd collector
Thank you Samby!! :)
I feel so silly thinking Den of Angels is a type of doll xD
The forum you are on, can I buy dolls from people there?
I'm not looking for a particular one, just options
yes you can but there are ruls on the market place and before you can see the market place you need a number of posts, so just introjuce your self and comment on peoples photos as long as you dont spamm all the threads lol.
Au is mostly uk and eu people but there ara a few us i think so just depends if they will sell to the us.
Ah I see. ^.^
Thank you so much Samby
Hi, Meghan_Chan! Thought I'd give you some help here. I've been in the BJD hobby for four years, and I think I can give you some insight. Please do bear in mind that my experience with BJDs has been limited to resin BJDs and not vinyl ones like Dollfie Dreams, a fact that is soon to change! So, everything I will tell you will have regards to resin BJDs.
1.) In your opinion, which is the best brand of BJD and why?
In my opinion, there are two best brands of BJD: Souldoll and SOOM. Souldoll is best for their wide range in faces and sizes, and their clothing, wig, eye, and shoe selection. SOOM is best for their sculpting abilities and creativity. They also have a wide range of style lines that are just beautiful! Their monthly dolls (Or MDs) are show-stopping!
2.) Where is the best place to buy a second hand BJD or a complete BJD?
The best place to buy a second hand BJD is usually from a forum. I personally don't trust auction sites like eBay because a lot of things can go wrong, and you don't have the chance to talk to the seller directly. For a complete BJD, it's best to go through a dealer or directly from the company. Keep in mind that if you order from a dealer or a company, it will take longer to get your doll. Much, much longer! Many of these dolls are made when they're ordered.
3.) Is it hard to do a face up yourself? I am an artist, as you can see.
It's not hard at all to do a face up yourself, but there are a few key things to keep in mind: doing a face up is much like applying make up on a person. A light hand and careful consideration is best. I find that it helps if I stop every once in a while, look at my work, and think 'would this look okay on a person?'. That being said, it is not okay to use make up for your face up, even the powders. Human make up often contains many pigments that cause irreversible staining, and oils that can and will damage resin! For face ups, it's best to use chalk pastels, artist grade acrylic paints, and a special sealer like Mr. Super Clear.
4.) If your doing your own face up, can you remove something if you mess up?
Yes, you can! Just use Windsor and Newton Brush Cleaner to do so if you've already sealed that layer of work, or a simple cotton swab dipped in water if you haven't.
5.) What is a Den of Angel? I keep hearing people say this and I have no idea what it is... Is it a type of BJD?
Den of Angels is actually the largest English language forum dedicated to these dolls. It's a great source of information, and a wonderful place to meet new friends! I thoroughly encourage you to join!
This is very helpful Fango DeMaria!!
I wanted to get a full doll from volks but they do not offer them. :(
How do I join?
they dont allways have the "join" open its to stop bad sellers and banned people from joining. other times it is ether open or on invite only. right now it is closed so i serjest saving the site and just keep an eye on it. there are many diffrent forums out there but Doa is the bigest
Volks offers full dolls all the time. They have many base models. Did you want BJD or Dollfie Dream? Dollfie Dream is popular on Doll.fm - they offer two base models (Aoi and Yukino) all the time, and limiteds intermittently.
personally i think volks dolls are beautiful. some of the best. their photography is not that great though, so people overlook them. I also like fairyland//dollfairyland.com a lot.
I've looked at a few and prefer the Dollfie Dream look. Mostly the Mini Dollfie Dreams They are too cute!!! But I didn't see any full sets for sale? Do they have full Mini's for sale?
I don't think they sell full minis, only full DDs- Yukino and Aoi. However, you said you want to paint her yourself-- you can get any head from the option parts section, and a mini dollfie dream body and make your own. Volks sells both eyes and wigs, as well as clothes, too.
I'll defiantly look into doing it that way, I'm just so afraid that I will mess up the face -_-;;
Thank you Zakka ^_^
It's not so hard. ^^ Get sealant from Volks-- use ZM spray Or Mister Super Clear to seal face first. Look at other dolls to see what you want your doll to look like. I used a pencil to draw on eye shape and eyebrows. then you should use acrylic paint or watercolor-- NEVER oil-- to paint your features on the face. I use chalk pastel-- NEVER oil-- to brush on cheek and lip color. It will be fine as long as you get sealant and spray it on before doing anything!
