MG 1/100 MSN-06β "Blue Berserker" Sinanju
Entry for the Bandai World Gunpla Competition.
This was built as part of the GAF SGB (Gundam Australia Forums Sinanju Group Build). Much thanks to everyone there involved to help me make this the crown jewel of all my gunpla!
In order of completion:
MSN-06E "Ebon Enforcer" by Busterbeam.
MSN-06β "Blue Berserker" by myself,
MSN-06T "Twilight Terror" by An American Salaryman in Tokyo.
MSN-06Y "Yellowbird / Canary of Death" by Gaijin Gunpla.
You can see the WIPs in the forum thread or my blog.
This was my first major major major project this year (Only got a super late start, right?).I built this as my 5th master grade model, right after the Unicorn Gundam...but found myself coming back to it after gaining experience in painting models and learning proper technique for decaling and topcoating, making it both MG #5 and MG#16 for me. ^^;; It took me a few weeks to finish painting and decaling everything but the end result has turned out very well. As you can see, I did modify the forearms so the shield could have a solid connection that didn't damage the part of run the risk of wrecking my decals. All it was was a little bit of drill work, but it works wonderfully. The black part however, got broken while I was removing it at one point...so I'm waiting on bandai's replacement part to get here. Hope it does so before the contest entry period ends!
body spraypainted with Tamiya TS-50 mica blue
black with TS-40 semi-gloss black
silver trim handbrushed with X-11 chrome silver
clear gloss coat of Tamiya TS-13
topcoated with Mr. Hobby gloss
I've only been building gunpla since last december, so I'm still just shy of the year mark for this little hobby of mine. I started with the NG 00 kits and found myself working with something bigger and bigger with each model until I found myself working on this one. I live in Ohio and typically have nothing much else to do on my days off besides work on gunpla with other friends in the area, which is dandy. Compared to a lot of people I've still got a ways to go though.
As far as future gunpla go, I'd love to a see a TV Version Wing Zero or an Epyon MG, as Gundam W was the first gundam I saw here stateside when it was airing on Toonami. Other stuff would be a Dynames, or a Nightengale to sit opposite my Hi-Nu but of course it would be absolutely huge. I'd absolutely love an MG of the Turn X as well, along with v2.0s of the early MGs like Ez8 and Gouf Custom.
...Yes, I resubmitted it. The new pictures are so much better and show off the shine.
MSN-06β "Blue Berserker"
Unit type: prototype newtype use mobile suit
Overall height: 22.6 meters
Base weight: 25.2 metric tons
Power generator output: 3240 kW
Maximum thrust: 128600 kg
Armor: gundarium alloy
Operating system: standard OS, Berserker system
Armament: beam rifle x 1, hyper bazooka x1, beam tomahawk x2, beam saber x2
Pilot: ?????
Built up on the various concepts introduced in the MSN-06E, MSN-06T and MSN-06Y variants, the MSN-06β deserved the 'Beta' mark next to it's model number. It was rolled out in 0097, somewhat behind it's brethren units but proved to be no less effective on the battlefield thanks in part to the ace pilot and experimental equipment.
After the S Gundam's ALICE AI system proved itself viable, AE technician's began to create their own learning AI- the end result being the 'Berserker Protocol' for the aptly codenamed Blue Berserker. Instead of the pilot's life being given priority the prime directive was instead given to combat. In addition to feeding information and suggestions to the pilot, the Bereserker Protocol also posses the ability to connect directly to the pilots mind via Psycommu when conditions are met (proper adrenaline and other bodily functions preforming at peak levels), bringing out the full wrath of pilot and mobile suit. The drawback to this was the obvious flaw that when the Berserker is active there is a distinct rise in friendly casualties along with extreme mental wear and tear on the pilot. The system also had to ability to push the generator past it's limit, making the unit appear like it had a burning blue aura along with the overdriven engine sounding like a fearsome roar. While useful and controllable thanks to the AI, usage easily possessed the risk of overload and subsequent destruction of the unit.
The suit remained on the battlefield with it's Yellowbird and Twilight brethren, working with them in a spectacular fashion- the three of them more often than not able to hold back a large force on their own. Due to the PsyCo-RPX (Psychic Communication Receptor Polymer - Experimental) present on the Ebon Enforcer the two units were never seen in combat together. Despite this, when all four prototypes were gathered for ceremonial events and the like it was quiet a sight to behold.
Through it's entire service record, there was not a single black mark until the suit and it's pilot were mysteriously lost in combat in late UC 0099. There were some whispers from survivors of the conflict that the infamous Blue Berserker had met it's match in combat while others said that the pilot sensed the end of Neo Zeon's time and simply left the battlefield...regardless of what happened, to the current day the Berserker has not been seen on the battlefield again.

Next to the RX-0~ Someday I'm going to take pictures of a fight, but the Unicorn is kind of a pain in the ass to work with...

Like I said, I built Sinanju as my 5th MG kit. Instead of buying a new one, I tore the old one apart and prepared it for glory.

All the parts organized and laid out.

After a gunmetal coat for the frame and some test-blue on the feet/hands. At this point I was unsure of using the mica blue!

Head detail. Silver pipes and head vulcans painted chrome silver via hand brush.

Like busterbeam, I found the shiled attachment to be terrible. I wanted to maintain symmetry, so I drilled a .104" hole in each forearm.

After that, I put a pc-C part in the old shield area and took part of a tree and stuck it in the hole.

Worked wonderfully! Too bad the black part was broken during the test fitting stage...I hope bandai gets me a new one soon. orz

every time i see your sinanju- i like it even more
-how did you handle the silver trim details where the gold used to be?
i dont have the patience or skill to mask that much lol

I just bunkered down and hand painted them. It took a lot of work, but with a size 0 high-finish brush (from Tamiya) it was all okay!
Looks awesome!... For some reason Kampfer ran through my mind when i saw this ... Which makes it even more awesome..

Yeah, same here. XD
Loving this color scheme a lot. Might do the same when I get myself a MG Sinanju. But I'll probably use white instead of silver trim on the armor "embroidery".

Well, since we're all Zeeks at heart from the look of it I think it'd be pretty joyous to see a comrade on the battlefield!

Pity i have no knowledge about this suit!

It was kind of the predecessor to the RX-0 Unicorn, stolen in UC0094 (I think) by The Sleeved/Neo-Zeon.

a personal favourite of mine. i cant say enough about this. silver detail work is perfect, excellent colour choice and execution for the armour, bold and contrasting beam parts, and i love the story. not to mention the hybrid rifle/bazooka shot. i love this thing.
