SDX Commando Gundam Review and Mini-Gallery

Posted by R-1 [www]

All done! Just got this fun little toy yesterday, and I am definitely happy with the purchase.

For those who don't know about the toyline, Bandai's SDX series is an off-shoot of sorts of their current Chogokin toy series, only this is focused entirely on classic SD Gundam variants. This is currently their fourth released figure in the toy-line.

This particular variant, the Commando Gundam, has the RX-78 design fitted with plenty of armaments to take anything down.

Like all SDXs and Chogokins, Commando's got die-cast parts, adding heft and value to the little guy.

I kinda wish he had more metal in him though, as only his feet and chest plate are die-cast. Though I might be spoiled, since I bought an earlier release, the Full Armor Knight Gundam, and boy, did HE have plenty of parts that were die-cast. The knight was more expensive as well.

Articulation is top-notch, however. The base figure itself is capable of many poses, and with all the armaments on, is still very mobile... For an SD.

Shoulders, ankles, hips and wrists are ball-jointed, and mostly unhindered by the armor. The waist can rotate 360 degrees, and the head has 3 points of articulation. The missile launcher, vulcan pod, and head mounted targeting scope also have their own joints, and can move about easily.

As the picture shows, you can strip Commando down to his inner frame. The stuff he comes with: A heavy machine gun, A laser machine gun which comes with two different stocks, A vulcan pod, A backpack with built-in mortar, a missile launcher, a combat knife and knife holder, 2 grenades, 2 Ball grenades, four pairs of hands, 5 sets of eyes, an extra chestplate, 2 face guards, an extra shoulder armor for mounting the grenades, a custom action base, a megaphone, eye patch, bandages and a cane. I think the last 4 are for when he has his senior moments...

Overall, I think I got what I paid for. Paintwork is of good quality, with no visible messes, detailing is sharp and clear, and with all the guns on him, he'll look pretty impressive (and cute) on your desktop.

Posed here with the SDX Full Armor Knight Gundam. Probably do a review of him when I'm not too lazy. I'm undecided on which one I like best, but currently, I'm digging the armed to the teeth look of Commando. However, the Full Armor has more accessories with him. If I were to recommend one to you guys, get the Full Armor. A bit more pricey, but believe me, when you're holding that guy in the palm of your hand, you're definitely gonna feel his weight on it.

I have mine still in box.
In fact all my SDX figures are still in box :P

Recently they have been really hard on producing exclusives.
Put off getting the SDX Heavy Weapon Commando Gundam as its too expensive.
(Gave in to the 'Meki ver' SDX Knight so I'm low on reserves :P)

Was planning to get every SDX release but its really too much on the wallet, especially the exclusives.

Ooh. That heavy weapon version sure is pretty. You're lucky to grab the Meki version of the original Knight Gundam.

Yeah, SDXs aren't cheap, about as much as an MG, which will definitely put folks off, especially for an SD.

Hmm, how and where were you able to order the Meki version?

Some of the local shops here were taking orders for it.
They also opened orders for the Heavy Weapon Commando.

Urk, if those shops were the shops I saw over there, and the prices there were expensive for me, what more if it was for you?
