Mim's Room Update
Happy new year mina-san!
My room renovations have been progressing rather slowly, but are finally getting somewhere so I thought I'd show a few pics from old to new. I still need to do some organising and tidying up of my cabinets and there will be a few more smaller changes to the room, but I hope you like the pics of my progress :D
Most pic's again taken with my iPhone 4G 5Mpx.

It was a pretty epic corner of my origional room, but sadly it was still a bit of a mess to me and not what I had in mind for an ideal room.

Just starting on the reno's here with that entire corner now cleared and most of the rest of the room to make way for painting the room.

This was the other half of my room back then. Yes I painted that colour on the walls myself and I did love it for quite a few years. Its was a strangely soothing shade, but did no favours to the ambient light in the room.

My room soon after being painted. So much cleaner and airy, bar that funky orange carpet.

I origionally purchased some really nice German ready built display cases, but opted to change my order to these flat packed self assembly units. Being mostly glass they weighed a bit, but then compared to the ready build ones I origionally wanted, these were a touch lighter. The origional fully assembled units were 154kg each O.o

I found a nice home for some of my wall scrolls leading up to my room.

And also a nice full size wall scroll of Auska on the right leading to the room.

Here is a fresh corner shot of that once insanely busy corner with the new cabinets assembled. You'll notice I also replaced that tacky orange carpet with a mich nicer cream one thats more in tune with the room.

Theres this one really annoying gap in my shades that allows a small slither of sunlight through to ym left cabinet, which I'll be fixing shortly.

I finally got to hang my framed Nendo poster, but being comprised of glass and wood, I didn't want it hanging by some sticky hooks just above my bed where there was a chance of it falling on me in my sleep >.>
A familly member came up with a brilliant idea using a coat hanger passed through one of the wall mounted aircons mounting brackets.
Hmm i think the Nanoha wall scroll needs to go right a little :)

I've been collecting these A3 place mats for a little while thinking they might look good in the new room. Unwrapped and tacked onto the walls using double sided tape, they turned out truely epic.

A little close up of the framed Nendo poster that was from showbags from last years wonder festival, which I picked up on Yahoo JP. It's missing a few of the earlier ones, but a double sized one including the missing ones and going all the way up to 250 would be really nice down the line.

Not quite there but a bloody good start, would be my Nendo display :D
The poor little munchkins are a bit crowded, but I am getting some of these Acrylic setep risers as seen on http://www.shopfittingsdirect.com.au/acrylic_risers
That's the same place I got my cabinets from btw if any of our Australia readers are interested in the same display's or in the risers. A note of caution, they use comercial couriers that will just drop off the cabinets so if you want them placed somewhere inside your house you're better off booking a removalist company to collect them, deliver and place them in the spot you want. Then you have to assemble them yourself.

My K-On cheer squad ^.^"

The Phat company Nendo play sets are truely brilliantly designed as they allow you to stack them up.

I have yet to unpack about 50 more Nendo's including all the Lucky Star, Deathnote, Pixel Martian, Vocaloids and a few randoms to go.

I will get around to attaching the decals to those cars soon.

I still need to organise my PVC cabinet, which is a a bit of a mess. If I had to pick favourites, that would easily be all the 1/4 scale Freeing releases like the Bunnies and Freezing girls in the middle front.

One pretty major thing I did was to swap all the bulbs with some LED one's, which you can almost make out in the top left reflection as having a little grouping of three LED's per bulb. Although only about 70% the brightness of the origionals, these use only 10% of the power and produce about 95% less heat.
I kid you not, the origional bulbs burned so hot the figures on the top shelves would have melted ater 60min. I found the LED versions at my local hardware house or you can obviously try lighting shops also.

I'll be taking a few more shots of the collection like the Nendo's, all of which I just love to bits, and sharing them here.

The hand full of Nendo's stil waiting for a spot in the display.

A temp spot for the little dvd collection >.<

Oh yeaaaaa~ <3 Life size Asuka ftw!
What a gorgeous case! <3 *o*
Yum <3
Win7 rotates through a folder with over 5000 highrez pics switching randomly every 30sec :)
O_O That is quite the collection you have acquired!
Fullset looks really impressive...and I see Mugi snuck herself in here too.
Two of my fave eva figures <3
Awesome room! ^^ If I had more figures I would be inspired to change my settup too.
Truth be told I didn't make the change due to the size of the collection. It was more to raise myself to a fresher mental state.
There is so much more light in the room and everything looks and feels so clean and nice. In my case I wanted to take a page out of the Apple Showroom book and so went the clean and professional direction.
I'm not done yet but its getting there.
Ahh! I totally know what you mean! A change of pace is always nice! ^^
Looks amazing! Awesome display set-up! Very inspiring. ^^
The room is great, really like your collection.
Very nice. I'm happy to see you are displaying your figures now. I also want to paint my room and change the carpet. My color choices would also be similar to yours so it's nice to see how well they came out.
It's not overly expensive, but you need to be pretty motivated to pull the proverbial finger out and do it. On the flip side you will be surprised at the amount of junk you can throw away in the process, depending on how strict you are with your clean up and what stay's.
For me this whole process took a few months taking many little steps so as to not be overwhelmed.
You are right. It's all about motivation and taking it step by step. I have been working on my room for a few months now. Right now, I have zero space to display figures so they are all in boxes. That's what is motivating me to clean up and reorganize. I still need to remove/donate tons of items in the room and then buy totally new furniture since almost everything in there is broken. ^^; Right now, I'm still cleaning, but my main thing is to save enough money to afford all the new stuff. Did it cost a lot to replace your carpet? Your room is about the same size as mine so it should be about the same for me then.
Being basically a square room the cost for install was mitigated a little due to the easier install. It really came down to the choice in carpet, which in my case was 100% wool, but theres loads of options. The foam underlay was a nice 10mm thick one, but I hear there's some pretty hardcore ones specially used the on floors of penthouse units to dampen all sound passing to the unit beneith.
Though really nice, floor boards are pretty much tripple the price over carpet deppending on the quality of wood used and complexity of install.
I can go on and on, funny what you learn when on a budget, so I strongly recommend shopping around as you will likely end up with something nicer than you thought you'd have for the same or less than expected.
???? o_O
No private bits, but pushing the envelope hard enough to hear little tearing sounds.
whoa O w O . . .epic room you got there :3
Which nendoroid is this?
The rarest and likely most expensive. There appears to be a single one up on Yahoo JP http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n100476973
I have so much respect for you. Seriously, you have an amazing collection! Do you have all the nendoroids?
You have an amazing collection! Beautiful!
Wow Mr. wizard~! can you fulfill my wishes?!
I'm willing to keep an open mind XD
OMFG! you have the most valued Nendoroids! o.o (excluding snow miku)
They look soooo good together it's almost criminal.
Your renovations are going well Mim! I agree that the original epic corner of your room was indeed epic, but it also seemed a bit intimidating to me. I mean, that's a lot of stuff to have all stuffed into one corner! And well-organized I might add.
I like the new cabinet setup you have going with your collection. Very impressive. And still well-organized! Good luck with the rest of your renovations. And Happy New Year to you too!
Thank you kindly <3
Thats quite an overhaul!
Looks good (and less clustered)
Where did you get the display case from in Australia? And how much was it?
I went for the 1.2m wide one with lights, but they also have 1.6m and 1.8m wide ones http://www.shopfittingsdirect.com.au/frameless_glass_showcases
Origionally I wanted http://www.shopfittingsdirect.com.au/glass_showcases_upright which is German and ready assembled, but they are 154kg all up including their solid wood shipping frames so not likely to happen unless your room is on the ground floor. Pretty epic as there are two lights on the lower front of each shelf providing the ideal lighting for our hobbies.
Thanks.
This looks perfect!
I have to hand it to Phat Company, a lot of love went into making that set. There's even two sheets of red felt material for the carpet included and a bunch of 3M stickers to tape it all down and look pro.
It's a pretty amasing set once light shines down on it.
Love the Queen's girls begging for some ecchi love!
At first I thought they'd be a waste of money, but then (to my surprise), I found out they were more than just a re-colour with all bar one coming with extra ecchi faces and parts. One even came with a totally different weapon to the A version.
I've been wearing this exact expression a lot lately. LOL
Now which is your fave Race? I love the one on the right best.
Right one lol. It's just the whole deal from the great figure sculpt, brilliant colours to the Porsche.
She still fits the whole race theme, but with a twist and the only thing that could possibly make it better would be to make the car a GTR or the new 86 imo >:)
Damn, she's big and more than in just the usual places! LOL
Words cannot describe.
Who's she?
She's the second Freezing 1/4 release by Freeing (Ingrid Bernstein). They really look brilliant together and is likewise a partial cast off.
Guess you really like Eris. LOL. I favored the Doctor and the Captain but I have a thing for mature ladies.
Thanks! As you may have gathered I prefure the more mature aged sculpts, but yes Eris really pushed my buttons. I loved the short, but deliciously packed show to the point of collecting two wall scrolls, an oppai mouse pad, one A3 print and all her PVC's. Needless to say I'd fall out of my chair if a full sized Nendo ever came out for her.
Wow, I love the way you display your figures in good combinations of characters even when they are from different series. Thinking about getting a cabinet like that since my collection is growing quite rapidly.
I'm pretty picky about the figures I get so I have loads of space left in my "everything else" case on the left. I have pile of Figma's I still need to load into the top shelf otherwise that's pretty much all my PVC's.
I think the combo's are not too bad, but I think it's more a case of many of the sculpts being exceptional to begin with. Having a ponder I think around half were used examples that I tracked down after seeing their brilliance in other peoples collections. The Haruhi Bunnies are a prime example of what I seemed a must have addition especially when it looks like Freeing are onto a trend with Mugi who fits right in and http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIG-MOE-4955&page=top%2Fsearch%2Flist%3Fs_keywords%3Dfreeing%24pagemax%3D100%24getcnt%3D0%24pagecnt%3D1 really knocks me flat.
There seems to be a deliciously expensive pattern coming from Freeing involving a lot 1/4 scale, obscenely tight bunny costumes and cameos from all kinds of shows in my future.
Kanu Bunny! Damn she look gorgeous. I managed to find a small version of the same Mugi Bunny last trip to Japan.
Awesome display cabinet! It looks absolutely beautiful.
I have to say I'm really happy with them. They were a bit of a pain to put together, but compared to so many others I've seen, these are just brilliant. The top parts are closed off glass too so those top wood units with the lights simply rest on top and can be removed or not purchased to begin with if you think you have enough light in the room to compensate. The shelves are adjustable height and the smoothly sliding doors even have locks on the front.
Yes, locks are nice and necessary. Personally I am willing to put a Claymore mine on the front door of my cabinet in case anyone dare to come close to my collection without permission. but sadly they don't sell those things in the supermarket. LOL
I Wish I can build a cabinet like yours someday. ^^
Just curious about those boxes, where did they go? Been thrown away or something?
Hmm of the PVC's I kept the Haruhi Bunny ones, but as for the Nendo's I kept every single one along with all the extra parts for each Nendo and all the tiny plastic protective sheets in their origional boxes.
All are neatly stacked like a pro game of tetris, in the top part of my built-in cupboard, at the back of the room.
I see. That's a way to deal with boxes. ^^
Boxes in the open space, no matter how well you stack them they just looks like a mess don't they? ^^
Nice room! Would like to ask though; where did all the books/DVDs go?
Those 2000 odd DvD's moved around the corner into the lounge room. I'm not sure whether I might start selling those or just buy a second shelf to fit all of them, but at least they are out of the way for the moment >.<
Really love the large glass display with all those figures inside. It's so tidy and organized. Very nice.
Thank you! :)
Impressive collection! I like what you did with the place mats, they look like posters :)oh and i really like those 1/4 haruhi bunny figures <3
I never realised how smooth and shiney they were while hiding in their wrappers till I finally opened them for mounting. After horrible past experiences with tacky looking posters having fold lines and bluetac that eventually seeps through with strange grease like marks I must say the wall scrolls and now these mats are brilliant.
I think i might do the same! Much better than sitting about in a cupboard ^__^
Everything's so lovely!
You've finally unpacked that mountain of Nendos! Amazing. You have displayed them so nicely as well. Even though there are so many it doesn't look crowded or random because the themes and poses and placements are just so nice.
I was beginning to think I had too many figures in my room it's just a mess, maybe I'll need to get me some kind of lovely cabinet like yours.
Again, amazing display, hope you've got room for new arrivals!
Wow thanks :)
I have some interesting ideas on space optimisation and funky lighting that I'll be sharing in due course.
On a side note, its been pretty crazy unpacking 10 to 15 Nendo's every day for two weeks now >.<"
U got really awsome room :D
AWESOME!! Really awesome!! I didn't watched an awesome room for a LOOOOOOONG time! Tell me where did you get all those nendoroids!
Thanks! I started Nendo collecting around two years ago and used just about every means possible to obtain them including auction sites (E-bay / Yahoo JP), proxies (Tokyo Hunter / Shopping Mall Japan), online stores (Otacute / Amiami / HLJ / Anime-Export / Mandarake) and some of the wonderfull members of our community on Figure.fm with their regular sales. I even had one of my workmates pickup one from Akiba on his recent trip to Nippon.
Gorgeous collection, I love your room!
Bakuman FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
epic room...
Cheers :D
Bakuman Ftw!
I love your display case. It shows off your collection very well.
Thank you ^.^
It's nice to finally actually see them rather than a neatly stacked pile of unopened boxes.
Amazing room. I love the job that you have done. Great collection and nice set up of figures~
Ah might invest in one of those display cabinets as they look really nice and tempting. If you don't mind, could you please provide a link to the cabinets you got?
I've only got 1 Ikea detolf shelf and that isn't enough to store my figures and nendos, so would most likely need another cabinet like yours. As I've always been interested in them, just didn't know where to find them^^"!
Domo!
I've been searching for some time, but never found anything quite as good as these http://www.shopfittingsdirect.com.au/frameless_glass_showcases
I got two of the 1.2m units and they all come flat packed so you put them together. It's 4 parcels / boxes per unit assuming you go for the lighted top unit options like mine.
No problem^^
Ah thanks a lot. Must of taken quite a while to put them together. Did you get the FRAMELESS GLASS COUNTERS (FLAT PACK). I might get the 900mm(w) x 450mm(d) x 965mm(h). But gotta make space first in my room^^"
Mine are a pair of the FVU-1200-PEL. Even as flat packs some of the bits can be heavy, especially the back pannel of glass so I would recommend having another person assist you.
I also required the services of a rubber hammer in order to attach the bottom metal runner to the glass and you might need an extension lead for the top light box units to reach your power points. That's assuming you get similar cabinets to mine.
The counter ones you mentioned are low units litterally like sales counters in a shop near or under the register.
Ah I see, thanks very much for that and taking the time to respond. Will look more into it, once I make space^^"
Amazing collection Mim! Biggest & best displayed Nendroid collection I've seen so far!
Domo arigato!
I have plans for that Nendo display.. yes plans (rubs fingers in anticipation).
uh from where did you get that? and what's his name? *-*
I had a good chuckle when finally opening the Professor up and having a play with some of his options.
http://www.nendoroid.org/nendoroid.php?n=67
I'm pretty sure he was one of my E-bay purchases from a while ago and there appears to be one available at one of my fav stores http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/item_s-253293.html
So lucky! *3* Yako is impossible to find~
She has such an epic face right there and I can imagine some great comedy shots in future using it on other Nendo's. Although I got her a fair while back there were plenty around going cheep, bit like all the Love Plus Nendo's now.
I loved seeing your room~ very nice! You have a fantastic figure and nendoroid collection ~ I especially like how you displayed your scrolls. Thanks for sharing~! *3*
Thank you kindly :)
heck yeah!!!...sonico!!!...soooo sexy!! and cute!
YOU GOT ONE AMAZING COLLECTION!!!!!!...i love it! really enjoyed looking at them!!! Where do you get your figures?
Thanks :D
All over the place really. First started with e-bay and then moved onto pre-orders via online stores.
When realising I wanted to complete the collection I then turned to more options like proxy's that allowed biding on Yahoo JP.
Awesome room; I can't wait until I get my apartment, then I'll be able to have enough room to create something similar (though, less spectacular) than what you have created.
Thanks! It certainly took me a while but I'm quite happy how it turned out so far. I'll be sure to provide a fresh article as the room progresses along and highlight any interesting problems I might find and how to avoid them.
For the time being one of my best tips is to use 3M plastic wall hooks to avoid drilling holes in walls. Especially if you want to change your mind later when hanging wall scrolls!
God it would be nice if I had the space of an entire appartment to work with XD
@Mim: Awesomeeee Collection!!!0-0
I love the way you stack it neatly and nicely..^^
Where did you get that nice cabinet? 0_o
Can I ask you, where did you buy the nendoroids?
Coz I've been wondering since I'm moving to Sydney, I don't know the best site to buy nendoroids and others figures..
Some of them are great, but for the shipping, It cost a lot..>.<
So I've been wondering which site is the best if you are going to buy from Australia..
Hai Ari,
I've answered the cabinet query with some prior posts a little further up.
As for Australian based collectors and the best places to obtain merchandise, I'd say online is the most cost effective. Theres a load of banners for online stores on this site I'd simply pick an example of something you want, that recently came out or is up for pre-order, and compare prices between them.
Good things to look for are stores that allow combined shipping and easy account / order managment. I've tried a few and eventually settled on using mainly Amiami - http://www.amiami.com/top/page/c/new.html
That will cover most of your Nendo needs while proxy services like http://www.tokyo-hunter.com/ will help with exclusive ones.
I'm not certain as to how serious you are about making a full collection or simply collecting all Nendo's relating to a single show, but I'm not going to pretend that figure collecting in general is a cheap thing. Some of the really old Nendo's go for several hundred dollars for used examples now.
Naturally I'm more than happy to help with more info if you have any queries.
I see, so the most cost efficient one is the online..0_o
I'll check the banners..
So you're now using amiami..0_o
But I just wondering, here in Australia, do we need to pay the import tax when we buy some figures? Coz some figures, as you say are not expensive when it comes to the exclusive or limited one..
And what's the most ideal shipping service? EMS?
Btw, thanks for the information, you helped me a lot..^^
I tend to use EMS, but I beleive its mainly down to how I use batch shipping and how once a shipment passes a certain value you can only use EMS.
As for taxes on importing merchandise of this kind into Australia, I do not recall ever seeing any regardless of source.
Ever buy stuff through Hobby Search or Mandrake? I've used Tokyo Hunter, HLJ, sometimes eBay (it's risky sometimes, ya know?). HLJ has great sales from time to time but shipping is what kills me...
I learned what to look for when bying over E-bay to weed out the bootlegs so I've never had a bad expereince with getting a good 40 or so that way. It really boils down to who can supply what you want for the cheapest price and being aware of mechanisims like combined shipping to save some money, which I did with some E-bay sellers.
For pre-orders I generally just use Amiami and Tokyo Hunter now while in the past I used Mandarake, Yahoo JP and Ebay for tracking down older figures.
yeah.. this is definitely a LITTLE dvd collection eeeheheheh
I will kill you kurisu
Where can I get this from? Bunny Mugi is just too awesome.
http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIG-MOE-2588&page=top%2Fsearch%2Flist%3Fs_keywords%3Dfreeing%24pagemax%3D100%24getcnt%3D0%24pagecnt%3D1
I checked and there are none on Mandarake, but you should see one pop up form time to time.
I like your big cabinet along with the freezing gals, Tamaki, Eris and I have this same figure of Witchblade. ^^
She's an awesome figure, but I had to swap put her awesome long blade out for the smaller one just to fit into the cabinet. She seems incomplete to me now as a result >.<
That´s a coincidence, I also did the same thing to swap her long blade to the short one to fit her in the shelf that I have.
That's me!!!
Awesome face expression! lol
°_° are these all nendos?!? wooow....im very impressed! :D
Thanks! That would pretty much be all of them, bar a hand full awaiting some new acrylic stairs to help manage my cabinet space a little better.
Youre welcome ^^ I only have one Nendo xD And when I see your collection this is just.... *_* I´m your fan! xDD
Can you please show this lala nendoroid to us, where did you get it? i can't seem to find it anywhere in the internet. Thanks
Kudos for spoting the one and only non-Nendo figure in that cabinet!
She's a little purchase I made many many moons ago - http://www.figure.fm/post/en/6839/Dec+and+Jan+loot.html
Lala ss one of my fav characters of all time and would certainly be part of my small wish list for new full sized Nendo's. Yami recently came out so I'm quite hopefull for Lala too, but at least I have a really cute litte place holder for now.
There appears to be a single example on e-Bay, which is where I found mine (not sure if its the same seller though) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Banprest-Ichiban-Prize-TO-LOVE-RU-Girl-Figure-LaLa-/150525200724?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230c004954
I hope this helps you in some way ^.^
Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.
I love your nendo collections btw. It's just so fantastic!
Do you like have every nendo that is being released?
My pleasure.
There were four variants for Primula, which I have only the standard version of - http://www.nendoroid.org/nendoroids.php?p=10&page=Nendoroids
Otherwise I have everything there after including variants and, although I do have a hand full of Puchi’s, I am only really interested in full size Nendo’s.
To be honest I find Puchi’s too fragile and painful to collect given how often they get included with magazines, games and various other merchandise.
Assuming releases continue as they do I’ll likely pass the 250 full size Nendo mark in the coming months.
<3 <3 <3
Trigger Hearts Exelica!
You've got an Antec 300 too I see.
