1/144 Turn A Gundam
Greetings! It's been a productive 2011 and among the kits I managed to assemble over last November and December are the Turn A Gundam, Zabanya and the RG Freedom. All 3 have been pretty horrid in the sense that I've been plagued by problems, such as frosting due to the rainy season, complete waste of matte and gloss topcoat trying to fix the errors, leaving me pretty much short on topcoat supplies and lastly, a really, really frustrated feeling from not giving any of the recent kits customized colours. Hoping for a better year in 2012 and me getting my act together.

The Turn A, on paper is an amazing machine but in its 1/144 form, it is utter crap. I'm sorry I had to say that but I did not have any pleasure in building it and when it was completed, I felt really unsatisfied.
It was to be expected though, in comparison with other HG kits, it's old and I suppose for a bargain price, it's to be expected and I'll be going over the issues I had in the later paragraphs.

The first thing you'll realize is the shoulder. It's a genius mechanism designed to make hobbyists quit GunPla. So a tip for any tired GF/Spouse, get THIS for your loved ones, they'll soon hate Bandai when they start assembling the kit. Both shoulder pads' backing are fixed onto 1 singled piece and completely fixed, leaving a shoulder that's incapable of turning, which in turn, means the hands can never go higher than the chest area.
Secondly, while they gave you a gorgeous [This time, no sarcasm] vent piece for the back of the legs, the front has a really obvious seam line running through, same goes for the feet. There are of course other seam lines, such as the head, guns and what not, and that's really disappointing for this kit has one of the nicest panel line I've seen on a Gundam.
Last major gripe I have is of course no fault of the Turn A, but it's with the rubbery hands and the abomination that is the elbow limb. It's the sort of limb that makes me wanna pull out the Turn A's hand and slap itself, asking "WHY, WHY!?!?!".

Of course there are other problems such as articulation, which as can be guessed, is very minimal that it makes my GFF looks flexible and a crotch that's really hard to mount onto Action Bases but I'm not too concerned with those since I don't really plan to pose the Turn A because it does look alright just standing still.
My final issue is with myself, in which case I wonder, 'Why did I paint the torso that way? It looks like Doraemon staring at me". Pure failure on my part there because I refused to let the torso stay blue. Did I also mention that the kit is kinda yellowish? I thought it was because I bought it for a bargain but searching online yields a result that, that is the intended plastic color.

The good news is that since there's no HGUC 1/144 Turn A Gundam, having this one is quite alright too because while I didn't watch the Turn A series because I just had the impression that it's about village folks who stumble upon an advanced machine [Or cavemen who found a military tank, that sort of clashing timelines], I did grew to like the radical design.
Despite it being produced the way it did, it remains as one of my tallest Gundam and the thing has gorgeous panel lines, especially the thighs and shield.
I would say the best bit about the kit is the head, it's simply lovely and my only regret was not being able to panel line green paint into the Turn A symbol at the top of the head to mimic the effect in the manual.

So while there were issues, I realize I liked the kit for what it represented and what it is and that all in all, I was quite happy with the outcome though there could be improvements, such as better seamline removal, better painting and perhaps some decal.

^ All the poses I could pull off without an Action Base and there could be more but I didn't feel like stressing the old guy.

Finally completed the RG Freedom but some issues cropped out, mainly because I'm lazy to pose the Freedom cause it's a lot more hassling that it seems and that I had alot of ideas to place it alongside other RGs and Winged Gundam.

Ah, I remember that kit! But I lost it when I was young.
Still, I think I agree your remarks on the 1/144 Turn A Gundam. I hope Bandai should make a HG version!
Agreed! It would be quite a great kit, given the improvements in current HG series.
I haz the same figure next to my RG 1/144 Char's zaku
I thought this thing was obsolete but it's great knowing that alot of people not only have it, but still have it displayed with the new kits.
great kit work though!!!!!
I still haven't put on the decals on mine yet...
Haha, hope to see yours when you're done with it. I honestly don't know if the EFSF are still around then. Gotta read up the history I guess >.<
weird, Turn A gundam OP song played in my head when i see this
Avid Turn A fan spotted hehe. If I listen to the OP, I always queue the 0079 OP too.
Nice build on good old white mustache back there! I still have mine in the box and I doubt that I can do a good paint job with it. Also wanted that RD Dann of Thursday, haha!
Shamefully, I admit I tried to sell him sometime back, but noone sent an offer and since I grew fonder of it.
Do open up the box sometime and sniff in the air of nostalgia =P
