Protect The Internet!!!

Greetings.

I'm not one to get involved in politics, but SOPA and PIPA, two bills recently introduced in the United States Congress, have the potential to cause serious and fatal repercussions that would adversely affect our free speech, privacy, prosperity, and security on the Internet.

And that I cannot ignore.

Today, many sites, including Mozilla (pictured) and Wikipedia have "blacked out" their sites in protest of these wastes of legislation. These bills may exist in the U.S. right now, but if these bills passed, what would happen if the rest of the world followed suit?!

And now, a message from Miku-chan and Saber:

Miku: "There is so much user-created content about me: songs, music videos, silly dance videos, covers of popular songs, and original artwork. I don't want all of that to be censored just because those guys in Washington, D.C., say it's copyright infringement. I love how people can express themselves and their love for us Vocaloids using the open and free resources of the Internet!"

Saber: "Agreed Miku. If it weren't for Crunchyroll, ElectricPhoenix would have never come across Fate/Zero and gained an interest in me and the whole realm of the Fate series. Then again, he would have never found other anime series that have now caught his eye. Like Miku, people also create AMVs, artwork, and the like about me and my comrades in the Fate series. I don't want to lose all of that just because those guys in Washington, D.C., say it's copyright infringement!"

Do whatever you can to tell those people in Washington, D.C., that these bills are bad news, and we don't want them! And spread the word as well. There's strength in numbers.

Imagine Social Media and CGM websites and communities like this, I respect IP holders as much as it is humanly possible but Bills like this are ridiculous.

        I agree IzayoiKagemaru.

Hatsune Miku's international success over the past few years is a result of consumer-generated media and the freedom to create and distribute such content over the Internet. Those bills would devastate the Vocaloid community and ALL forms of user-generated content!

I would be very disappointed if this site got blocked because of the vague and ambiguous language of those wastes of legislation. Those people in Washington, D.C., know NOTHING about how the Internet and technology work in today's society. Even the experts in various computing fields are saying the bills are terrible ideas.

And yet, the people in Washington, D.C., continue debating about something that they don't even understand?! That's just wrong on so many levels.

I have also signed the petition.

I signed this when i 1st heard about it. It's our playground, i mean the internet wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for each and everyone one of us. (good and bad)

Lamo poor Americans. Honestly for a government to choose what people read or watch is a type of control which no government should have.

      I agree optimisticpenguin101.

I am very disappointed with the direction my country has taken over the past several years. It's as if those people in Washington, D.C., think that the U.S. Constitution is "just a set of 'guidelines'" for running the country, and that ordinary citizens don't know what's best for this country.

      They are completely WRONG.

Unfortunately there are some countries that do block some media, sites, or even things they read but then again that's how most of them have always been. This country was founded on the basis of being free and to get these kind of bills passed does suck. I mean we've signed away our privacy with the Patriot act and basically our health care, lets not lose our freedom of speech...

I guess I will be te other side of the coin here, There are a lot of hard working peoples like you and me out there who are at the threshold of poverty because of piracy unchecked on the internet for the "work" you and I enjoy as a past time in some form or another. Patrick has said this himself being at the floor level of the artists there in Japan as just a part of an example. The term starving artist has very real implications in many many ways. As much time has progressed, this has not been stemmed. Real revenue has been lost. The line is not so defined as to going to the grocery store to buy bread. At this time I understand why a starving family would be pushed to steal these things, most others don't have the same excuse, other then it's free or worse, to exploit it. while at the same time I believe there needs to be a cut off to be reasonable to these levels as well.
There are several legislation in place to point to the real intent of the Gov. And to say they will blindly black hole anything, anyone deems so, to be done so, is ridiculous. Those parties WILL have to PROVE their case in a court of law. I AM certain they are not taking this lightly. More over, the other governments of the world have had sessions too, with US about these items. Certain avenues have to be followed, and permissions to be had, or not. Would you like someone you didn't know camping out on your lawn without your permission? Not knowing who they are or what their intent is? To the point of infringing on your basic rights as a person?
Believe me, I get what you mean. I really do. But at the same time I believe in the people they are trying to protect. If peoples or organization want their stuff put on the internets to be shared for free or not, then it should be by THEIR choice. While maintaining "fair usage".
I did sign the petition, and did so in the premise of the peoples here need to be better informed of what was to happen, instead of passing a bill of legislation in the middle of the night with out the majority being informed in some way. Be it TV, radio, e-mail, internet video, or junk mail fliers. And make it a REAL democracy and not a select democracy. I believe the Internets greatest asset is for those who seek knowledge. If that gets black holed.... It is a double edged sword. You're holding it. Sorry for being long winded.

No it's a good thing, there are way to many of us who take the internet for granted and yet doesn't care about this. But what everyone doesn't see is that it does affect them in some way. If you go to youtube, facebook, twitter, or even use wordpress your one of the 1st to be hit when/if it passes. Not to mention anyone else who doesn't even live in the United States as well. This blockage will be world wide as the government sees fit.
One of the game companies Nintento is for this bill and for a company that there icons are used very often i can see why, but what they don't know is that when anyone uses anything by Nintendo it's more helping them than hurting them, i mean everyone know Mario.

I wish to stop this bill because. . . if it weren't for wikipedia.org, yahoo.com . . . I would not(never) have found(and joined) such a tight knit community of (loving) comrades around the world like figure.fm and dannychoo.com . . . even-though we are a worldwide community of individuals of various ages, nationalities, beliefs, and interests, we are all united by our hobbies and mutual understanding of each other(trying to find other Otaku with true desire for their hobby outside the internet is impossible).

And so I say this in behalf of all who read this comment on each one of their operating systems, and to all the Otaku in the world. Let us stop this bill from being passed by people who do not understand the internet like we do.

Love me or Hate me for my selfish reasoning but I just don't want to lose all of you in my life. . .

    Good news for now...
Both SOPA and PIPA were postponed for now or till they come out with more wacky ideas.
