Animation On Display convention, are you coming?

Posted by milkycafe [www]

I’ve told a few friends at school about AOD (Animation on Display) this year, to come and get their live commissions done. However, I attend a business school so not many people were interested in Anime and games. If you’re going, do us all a favor and invite more friends to come! It's a local Anime convention in San Francisco's Japantown during Presidents' Day weekend.

I’ve attended AOD every year for the past few years now and it’s gotten a very good reputation now for being a small but fun con. It’s still very small though and I’d love to see it grow into something much larger. I remember when JTAF (Japantown Anime Faire) was still around, it took over the Japantown for the con. Too bad it’s gone now due to some rumored mishap but I’d love for AOD to grow in size just like that. :)

For those interested in purchasing pins online for $1 each + shipping/paypal fees, please email me at mintycafe@gmail.com.

That’s it to report for now. Can’t wait to see everyone there!

It's a convention for all sorts of animation. It's not as geared toward anime as one might think. If I recall correctly, the first guest of honor they announced for this year's con is involved with "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."

Having been to the convention once (not in cosplay, though, as I didn't start doing so until Fanime that same year) and enjoying it, I would have wanted to go this year as well, but there is something else going on that same weekend that I will have to prioritize over that. Hope everyone that does go will enjoy themselves! Especially if you live close to the area, it's something I recommend checking out even if it's only for one of two days.

They claim to be for all types of animation but most of the attendees are devoted anime and game enthusiasts. Their original name was "Anime Overdose" but you can imagine what type of misconceptions that made. While the guest of honor is related to "My Little Pony", I feel it's because they have trouble obtaining enough big names from the anime and game community. Although, that is only my thought. :)

The pre-register is still up and is only $30 (I think?). It's fun for experienced convention goers to try something smaller than Fanime and AX, smaller conventions has a much different feel. AOD is great for first time convention goers. :) I've convinced a few first timers last year and they loved it!
