MS-06S Zaku II Commander Type
Hello there.. Arein here submitting my entry for Bandai's World Gundam Competition (doubt I could win but what the hell, I'll post this anyway). Currently residing somewhere in Southeast Asia, started seriously building gunpla last February of 2009.. So far I've only built this, 1/100 Gundam Astraea and an MG RX-178 Mk-II 2.0.
Also built some 1/100s and 1/144s (5 of 'em to be exact) a decade back but I doubt that counts, all I did was rip the parts away from the runners, didn't even bothered to clean the nubs.. xD
I would like Bandai to make an MG Sazabi 2.0, MG Nightingale, MG Hyaku Shiki 2.0..
This is an S-Type Zaku II, specifically assigned for squad leaders.. Aside from the antenna, this is visually identical to the F-Type Zaku II. It also features a much more powerful Minovsky Reactor, greater thrust and acceleration.
This is the mobile suit that helped Char Aznable earn his title "The Red Comet".. It was due to the speed at which he destroyed five of the Earth Federation's Magellan class battleships at the Battle of Loum during the One-Year War.
Took me about 7 days to finish everything up.. Only the second kit I've painted, the first one was a disaster. D:
- Snap building/ cleaning nubs (6 hours)
- Creating dents and damage (2 hours)
- Painting (2 hours)
- Decals (1 hour)
- Topcoating - matte (1 hour)

Before (left) and after (right) image of the Zaku II..

A shame that I don't have the skills or tools to paint the 1/100 Char Aznable.. D:

Painted the boosters and verniers some gold..

Gotta love how the verniers turned out :3

Sieg Zeon !!

Added details to the the heathawk.. Painted the blade and the tubes.

For those guys out there that loves to pose their gunpla with the finger flipping/flicking or doing the middle salute.. Seriously, it doesn't make you (or the gunpla) look badass or cool, more like stoopid and lame =P

That amount of painting only took you 2 hours? I'm impressed!!
Nice damage marks too, they're very realistic. Wonderful work! XD
Forgot to say that I didn't paint the torso, skirt and the inner frame.. Those only has topcoat.
I like this version of the two you showed earlier :D I'm not into mecha but I am into painting so maybe I'll pick up a couple
Doesn't look like it on the pictures but the default hue of the red almost looks like pink.. T'was what made me paint it :3
Nicely done ^_^.
The grey spikes make it look more menacing than the red ^^
Looks better than what I've done... then again I hardly do anything to my Gundams XD
Yeah.. Menacing was what I was aiming for, it look kind of plain with the default red ^^
he looks awesome! the red is much better than the default pink lol i like how you did the dents and scrapes, very realistic. i would believe Char is pleased ^^
nice photos too, i need to work on my lighting setup XD
Yeah.. I myself dislike the default pink, thanks for the compliments. I had yet to build a decent photobooth, only using this and some touches with Photoshop.
That and the overhead bulb..
thats great result for a basic setup. i tried the same thing but my overhead bulb isnt strong enough. also its yellow in color, looks like ill be submitting crappy pics of Wing Zero since im running out of time ^^;
nice work there arein :)
hard time paint eh..work done ^|||^
Final product looks real good bro. Didn't know you were gonna paint the boosters that shade.
Was originally aiming for a chrome finish, all I had was some gold spraycan..
I thought, what the heck.. The color of the MS itself is bold enough, might as well paint the booster/verniers gold.
Nice Zaku ! I plan on giving mine a different paint scheme too since the coral type color looks a little lame.
I like the regular green color though.. What colors are you planning on giving your Zaku II?
Probably a White with grey accents scheme.
Then just buy S. Matsunaga's Zaku II.. Saves you the time painting it. =P
Ok scratch that haha. Still have some more thinking to do on a scheme. Maybe black with yellow kinda like Gaia.
Some tips:
-For scratched up areas, you can dry brush some silver to bring out some of the dent details and use a little bit of dry brushing for some of the edges to compliment the scratches: http://gamerabaenre.com/dry_brushing.htm
-Then flat coat the surface and use weathering pigments/chalk pastels and add some blast marks and other effects to the scratches. It will give the damages more depth: http://gamerabaenre.com/pastels.htm
-Another technique to use is a wash/fade that will give the entire kit a look of being worn: http://gamerabaenre.com/fade.htm
Agree with GameraBaenre, but I think you did a good job on this. I like the finishing in particular.:)
Already knew the techniques gamera said.. I like my weathering subtle =P
Thanks for everyone who had comments here..
very nice job !! specially the photos :D
Lol thanks..
