Alfisti's Room

Posted by Alfisti [www]

Name/nickname: Alfisti (Richard)

Age: 22

Years as Otaku: Well, I first got into anime in my last year of high-school, so about 5 years since I started.

Nationality: Australian

Collection outline: I have far too many interests, so my cash is spread pretty thin. Because of that I tend to only buy figures if I like the character as well as the design. There also used to be a limit of one figurine per character, but having broken that rule twice now it’s been amended to “only one figurine of any character ON DISPLAY”. Partly because of that, only part of my collection on display at any one time. The other reason is a simple respect for my own sanity (which is pretty tenuous to begin with) when it comes to cleaning time. Mostly I collect figurines, Pinkys and a few models on the Anime side of things. Also art books if I’m particularly awed by the illustration work in something and manga. Rough numbers: 17 static figurines, 2 articulated, 4 models, 8 Pinkys and one attempt I made at sculpting.

Collection cost: Umm, well I’d be lying if I said I knew exactly, however if I had to put a number to it; probably around the $2500 mark (not including DVDs... probably add another $1500 for those). I have a nasty habit of getting on bandwagons late when all the merchandise has become expensive, rare or both.

Favourite Item: The ARIA undines, without a doubt. The Canti figure or éX-Driver Stratos would be a close second though.

Web address: http://wraith11.deviantart.com

Anything else: Only problem with having lots of black? It’s a total dust magnet. Oh, and more power points would be nice.

Establishing shot, taken from in front of my wardrobe. I'd dearly like to re-paint the walls, but since I don't know how much longer I'll be living here there's not really much point in making permanent changes.

Alfisti's Room

The landing strip, such as it is. Generally I try and keep this space clear so I can dump my bag, cap, and other paraphernalia I carry around during the day on it.

Bottom level of desk and shelves...

My favorite items? By far the ARIA undines.

In a celebrated departure from sanity I bought a Polaroid camera near the start of the year. It's actually a lot of fun to use. If a good DSLR is the equivalent of a Ferrari 599 then the Polaroid is a crashbox Morris Minor: challenging in its own way and incredibly satisfying when you get it to work right.

      It does make for a nicely useable workspace... only problem is that I'm not having trouble working out where to add a second monitor.

      Thanks :D It wasn't always this tidy... but about a year or two ago I finally got over having to move piles of stuff around to get at things, cleared the whole place up and have managed to keep it that way... so far.

    Love the ARIA section there. I'm still trying to find Athena and Alice for a decent price...

      Cheers man.

      Heh, to be perfectly honest I've given in on finding the Juniors, for two resons: one is that I was always more of a fan of the seniors and the second is that I know if I get one, I'll then spend epic amounts of time and money trying to track down the other two ^^; Good luck in your search though man and if you find doubles...

        Hehe. Akari was the first one I found, then Akira, follwed by Alicia, and lastly Aika. Seems I'm doomed not to collect the Orange Planet girls. :(

          Wow, lucky finding Akari... I've not seen her for sale for ages. I found Athena first, then Akira... then signed a contract to give up my first-born child and got Alicia =P

            I actually saw Akari on the shelf at an anime con. At the time, I didn't realize that most of the set was no longer in production, so I didn't think to get Aika at the same time. I'd been kicking myself ever since and finally took the plunge when I found her on Amazon this year.

            Alicia was one of those "it was meant to be" moments when I saw her on eBay. Someone in California was selling a pre-loved version, so I entered into a small bidding war with another Alicia fan. I'll have to say I was overjoyed that I prevailed.

            I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to find the other two. I have a friend who has some connections in the Japanese toy industry, and she couldn't even come up with any leads... :(

              Athena seems to pop up from time to time on eBay at a resonable price, but it's been awhile since I last saw her.

              Haha, go go bidding war.

        I'm far more partial to the Juniors myself...but that's all taste. xP I've given up on finding any of the pre-existing ARIA figures though. Simply don't have the cash to dump and I'm content with the artbooks and digital stuff I have. Did manage to acquire Akira recently (I walked by a shop and she was a *steal* at around $12-15 CAD), but that was a chance impulse buy and I doubt I'll be so lucky again.

        G'luck to you though, Asian Ed. We have yet to see a full collection, and since Alfisti's given up on the Juniors it's all up to you. xP

          Should note: "given up" defined as "will buy if I see, but not actively looking" =P

          I guess that's one good thing about liking a niche anime: some people just don't knwo what they have.

      Umm... what's Dead Leaves? ^^;
      The figure itself is actuallu Canti from FLCL. I only found it by chance as it was never actually marketed as an anime figurine but instead as a vinyl toy.

      Hey man, sorry for the late reply... haven't been back to this post in awhile ^^;

      For those two photos I was using a Canon 300D, the first of the really cheap DSLRs they did and the stock lens. I've since upgraded to a 5D mkII with the 24-105mm lens which the room photos were taken with.

      I actually use a couple of cameras. These shots were taken with a Canon 5D mkII, before that I was using the 300D.

      I also have a Lumix LX3 that I carry around with me and a Minolta XDs manual focus SLR that I inherited from my father. I also have a Polaroid Onestep Flash and Holga 120N for shits and giggles :P The full collection's here ---> http://www.figure.fm/post/en/1218/Alfisti+s+Imaging+Armoury.html
