Is Here: Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

The latest version of the popular Linux based Ubuntu operating system is available now. Not to be outdone by the recent Windows 7 release, Ubuntu 9.10 is also chock full of major improvements and interesting new features. If you are a user of an earlier version of the OS, you may want to consider upgrading to this newest version.
Overall Ubuntu 9.10 is about speed. Ubuntu now employs a new technology called Upstart. What this means is that 9.10 boots significantly faster than prior versions of the OS. Ubuntu 9.10 also now enables by default the ext4 filesystem, another technology that improves file handling by the OS. This allows 9.10 to access data and run programs faster than before.
Users will find that 9.10 has even better hardware detection and support. Hardware such as video cards or TV tuners, which in the past tested user's patience because of installation woes, are now installed effortlessly by 9.10.
Ubuntu 9.10 now comes with Ubuntu Software Center, a new, easy to use program management facility. Prior to this, Ubuntu users had to resort to either the Synaptic Package Manager or the command line to install and remove programs. These methods of managing programs often proved themselves to be daunting as well as confusing even to experienced users. Ubuntu Software Center changes all of this in the form of a concise program management facility. Users of the facility will quickly find that they can install or remove programs and get clear information about already installed programs with ease of mind.
Ubuntu 9.10 allows users to have their own personal cloud. Integrated into 9.10 is the new Ubuntu One online storage facility. Users can now take advantage of two gigabytes of free online storage for file sharing, computer backups or syncing data. Additional storage, if needed, is available for a small fee.

think i'll give this a try now. windows 7 hasnt even been released in retail in my place yet. the wait seems endless.
Ubuntu Linux Forever :-)
If try Ubuntu is impossible to return to Windows
Just upgraded 1 Laptop, 1 Netbook and threw it on my desktop that i was running Ubuntu Server on.
Like the changes so far, just wish they would load the Broadcom STA drivers from the iso image instead of having to hook the laptops up to the switch and download them off a wired connection.
Now if I could just get Autodesk to do a native port over, I would see no need to stay on windows.
Looks like Ill be installing this on the ps3 ! Time to start the excruciatingly long process of backing up..
