RX-78-2
My favorite shot.

Honestly, before the celebration of Gundam's 30th anniversary, i din realli pay much attention to RX-78-2. To me, it was just an old Gundam with not much abilities and retro weapons. I started knowing abt Gundam thru Gundam Wing. So naturally, newer Gundams got more of my attention. Now, after so many years and much researching, i've learnt alot more abt RX-78-2 and its history. The Big G at Odaiba really hit it home for me. i'm sure it did the same to some of you out there too. ^^. This Gundam has grown on me.

Alrites! that's all i have for RX-78-2.. Thank you everybody who has seen my work.. and especially those who have given me tons of advices.. really appreciate all of you wonderful guys/gals out there! =) i hope to improve my painting skills.. using spray cans.. or better, airbrush! the next kit will be something small to give me a breather.. haha. i'll post it up soon!! Feel free to make any comments, good or bad! at least i noe you are out there.. haha. thanks again! see you soon. =)

well, this is my first post to figure.fm.. so i'm still testing out the process.. im sorry if my post appears weird or anything. Thanks for viewing! more photos can be found at my blog! i only took like 5 photos off this post frm my blog. =)

The full post is at here. ^^

there's also the WIP and part 1 of the completed post.. =)

お楽しみに!

thank you kamo kun! haha.. sure! do get one if you like your RX with many details.. yet the build is very simple.. that's why i chose this kit to be my first painted kit.. simple build and extreme details.. love it. =D well, i do understand kits can cost alot to ship ard.. at my country, kits are quite ex too.. up to 60% more of the original price.

if you ever visit japan.. grab hold of a few kits..!! its definitely well worth the trouble.. i din regret carrying 2 bags of gunpla kits when i came back from tokyo.. XD

Lol.. You didn't do much research then, it's not because it's "retro" that it has so little weapons. It only has those weapons because it's from the "Universal Century".

Standard weapons from the UC timeline includes a beam rifle, beam saber, a shield, a vulcan (mostly at the head) and a hyper bazooka.. Just look at the upcoming Unicorn Gundam, it has the same weapons as did the RX-78-2.. The beam gatling gun is an exception (because it's taken from Kshatriya).

And about your OYW, I'll say it's pretty well done, the panel lines are nice and clean (unlike some people who makes large ones xD). Post more pictures.. ;D

i'm sorry but i'm a little offended. i dun think you read my post properly. i din say anything abt it being retro for having so little weapons. Its weapons are only retro when compared to newer series, as i've mentioned, i.e. Wing Gundam. And all these opinions are before my knowledge of RX-78-2, before the 30th anniversary. it is after my research when i started this kit that i've learnt more abt the UC timeline. Please consider before you make such baseless comments. you wouldn't want to be treated the same way right? i'll take it as you have not read my post properly.

As for your compliments, i thank you as the same for the others who did comment on my work. you guys are great! =)

I've read your post fully, but my opinion stands still.. Calling it retro would be not right.

Then compare Gundam Wing to Gundam Unicorn that's coming out in 2010? Wing's weapons are still much more powerful than the newer Unicorn's but Unicorn is the newest Gundam show. So that's why calling it retro would be wrong.

Ren is right on this one dude, nowhere in the post that he said that the weapons are retro because the gundam has few weapons. I think what he meant there is that he did not take notice of the rx-78-2 before bec 1.) it was on old gundam and 2.) that the weapons are so basic compared to what is being shown nowadays hence the retro word.

I was talking 'bout ren calling the weapons "retro" because it's from an older show than Gundam Wing..

Just look at Unicorn (that's coming out in 2010 and 14 years after Wing), it has the same set of weapons as the RX-78-2.. A beam rifle, beam saber, vulcans, hyper bazooka, shield.

The gatling gun is an exception because it was from Kshatriya

What I thought was he used retro because it's from an older show than Wing.. He used retro because it's timeless.

Could've debated more but he pulled a wikipedia entry on me.. =P

It's very seldom one uses retro when referring to something timeless, one could easily just use timeless.

When retro is used it's usually refers to something old or a classic.

This is gonna be the my last comment on this matter. feel free to your comments. buffet style. XD
I'm sure the nice pple here can read themselves. =)

Calling it retro does not mean it is old. One very good example is the relatively new RX-78-2 Ver. 2.0. It is one of the newest, yet the very design of it spots the 'retro' design which resemble closely to the original anime series. Your definition of retro here is, it cannot be anything new, which is incorrect in this case. Retro simply means “old fashioned”, functioning much like “timeless” or “classic” usually a rather cynical revival of older but relatively recent fashions. And 'powerful-ness'/strength has nothing to do with it being retro. its totally two different matter.

with this, i rest my case. thank you and no offence intended. have a good day. =)

not all UC suits have limited weapons selections. even zeta had grenade launchers and spare beam cannons in wave rider mode. EX-S had 8 different beam cannons in total, along with reflector incoms and a total of 8 vulcans. Hell the V2AB had almost every weapon system ever devised during previous UC series on it.

good to know another younger generation gundam fans( by younger generation, i mean those who start watching gundam series since wing and onward, not people's age) has at least try to have a look on the older series. i myself started on wing but immediately went through UC before watching X, seed and 00.

just 1 question, why is the ball joint on the knee ( the pistons in the inner frame) colored as green? just your own preference? sorry for my noobish english. i'm not from a english speaking background

hah.. its okay. regarding your question.. its becos the original leg frames is actually the old ver. 1.5 Gundam's frame. and literally e whole leg frame is moulded in that color. pale dark green? yups.. and being a ball joint, if i painted it, it will jus get scrapped off if i move the knee joint. so.. i left it alone.. maybe i'll paint over it when i've decided on a permanent pose? ^^
