Broken Drossel, Broken Dreams...
So this if my first post on figure.fm. I was inspired to finally post something after I had read Crimson03's post. Unfortunately, my first post isn't a happy one.
Back in July of '09, I purchased a Drossel figma along with various other figures. Now, I know I'm not the only person who had problems with this figma, but if you read along I think you agree that I've had some really bad luck.
Now, before I continue, let me give you some background on myself. I'm the kind of guy who treasures everything he purchases. I always baby all my things, whether they're figures, electronics or even books. I don't let anyone else handle anything unless they have my permission or I'm supervising them. I know this is kind of OCD of me, but I work hard to earn money and I'm not gonna let it go to waste because someone broke something by mishandling it.
I also like to keep the packaging of almost everything just in case I might need it again. I haven't thrown away a single figure box (even tho I have over 50) and I've even held on to boxes for my controllers and stuff. I also keep everything clean and as scratch-free as possible. You should take a look at my iPhone 3G, I've never dropped it and the only scratch is from when I threw it onto my friend's bed but it bounced off and fell on the tile. Lame.
So with that in mind, let's continue.
I opened the Drossel figma's box carefully, making sure not to crease the tabs or rip anything. I carefully opened the packaging too because I know if I open figure packaging too quickly, things fly everywhere and it's never pretty. So I finally got everything open and saw Drossel lying there, waiting to be embraced by her new owner. I don't know why, but at that moment I knew it was gonna be an ugly night.
Basically, I picked her up from her plastic bed and noticed that her right twintail didn't come with her. "That's weird," I thought and I picked up the twintail, hoping that it was just detached from her head. Unfortunately, it was worse than just detached, it was broken.
The peg that connects the twintail to the head was broken, severed in two. It was a messy cut, leaving the majority of it stuck in her head while a few pieces were still attached to the twintail. There was even a few pieces that were lying around the packaging, like glass that had shattered all over the floor.
I immediately took some pictures with my dad's DSLR and emailed Hobby Search. A few days later I received a reply stating that they would send me a replacement. I was overjoyed to learn that I would receive a new Drossel free of charge and hopefully in perfect condition. A week later, that joy turned into tears.
It was like deja vu. I slowly opened the box and the packaging and lifted her up and just my luck, the same exact frikkin twintail didn't come with her. It was lying on there mocking me. For the second time, I had the same exact problem with this figure. It was a curse.
I took a new set of pictures, this time with both Drossels, emailed Hobby Search and patiently waited for their reply. Well, guess what, I'm still waiting.
It's November, now 4 months later and I'm still waiting for a reply. I emailed them a couple more time with the same details and still nothing. After seeing a few broken Drossel posts on figure.fm I decided to take action.
So I sent Hobby Search another email before starting this post and hopefully this time I'll get a reply. I couldn't attach any pictures because their servers keep spitting the emails back at me so I sent a link to my flickr account with a photo set of the broken figmas. This might be the reason why they haven't sent me a reply, but how hard is it to click a damn link.
I know this whole post has been a huge wall of text, so I'm gonna upload the pictures on my flickr photo set below, but if you'd like, here's a link.

Both broken Drossels.

Close up of newer broken Drossel.

You can see the broken pegs still stuck in their heads.

Close up of the older Drossel's head.

The two broken right twintails. There's a bit of the peg still in each. Not a very clean break.

Proof that I can remove twintails without breaking them. Hopefully this will prove my innocence and further prove that they broke in transit.
Hopefully Hobby Search will email me back, but if not, I'll email them again and again until they respond.

Ouch, that's some bad luck. Have you thought about e-mailing Good Smile? (support@goodsmile.jp) Some people have been successful with getting replacement parts from them.
(Although I'm not one of them ~_~ I'm like you; insanely careful with my things. Although when I got my Drossel it had one shoulder joint moulded incorrectly. Even though I treat her and everything else I own as if it's made of solid gold, her joint has gradually started splitting apart despite me treating her so well. I e-mailed Good Smile with photos and they just said that it "...Is the way it was designed and manufactured and we do not find any problems on the joints from the pictures." I wasn't and still aren't too happy about that. I have a feeling my Drossel is gonna be armless soon...)
I wouldn't feel so sad about it. Read around here and you'll soon see everyone has had problems with Drossel, you aren't terribly unlucky at all.
Feel sorry for you, but it wouldn't hurt to try some superglue. :P
I dont think super glue's gonna work on this one. the polycap joint might get ruined.
I dunno about the others but they might have other ways.
SuperGlue worked on mine. I always post my Drossel sitting on my DSLR on a tripod on my desk. A tiny shake in the desk caused Drossel to fall from the SLR to the desk, and broke both her twintails. SuperGlue worked well and it's now as good as new.
Ah, I'm so sad to see your luck is so horrible ;-; I hope they fix this problem very soon!
I did research on the drossels and got some info out of the other DC reading otaku comrades. And according to some, twin issues are very common among the drossels. :(
I have heard about all of the issues various people have been reporting with ojou, so I've been treating mine like a delicate flower. The worst thing that has happened so far is that the ball joint has gotten loose on the twintails, but happily nothing has broken so far. I hope you are contacted soon about getting another replacement! You may also want to contact GSC/MAX directly to see if there is something they can do for you, like sending a replacement twintail instead of a whole figma ^^
How about nail polish?
Damn I feel sorry for you man...but think of it this way, if something breaks, Improvise!
Shops rarely wants to replace for a same customers more than once for the same product. Business, I guess...
Some 'luck' you have there, huh....same broken joint... ^^;
I've had a broken figure shipped to me one time. Tho it wasnt my drossel figma, it was my moetan nendoroid... One of the joints died during shipping, but I had never expected shops to be so generous as to replace a product. I did scoop the rest of the joint pieces stuck in her leg and replace it with my other nendoroid spares. But mabye I'll email them next time :S Her leg joints are either different coloured slightly or slightly buldgier, depending on whose nendoroid spare joints I use :(
But damn o_o
both of urs came like that? You have my sympathies. I mean, it even had to be the exact same twin tail on the exact same side that broke. Cant even repair one with the other's parts :(
=O That sucks! Clearly the Drossels were already broken or were from a flimsy batch. My Drossel just arrived a couple days ago but now I'm scared to take her out of the box =/
At least twin tails can be replaced by a jet pack or etc. Still better than a broken waist!
if pic didnt work out, sent a vid instead.. good luck
let the pin in Ojou head, put a super glue on it, attach the tail and let it dry. Then you can pull out firmly :D
Have yet to open my Drossel..
For now you can use the other head parts on your 2 Drossels.
If you get a third one then all 3 types of head parts will have their own body!
