Radiant Photoshop: Mirai Fan Art

Well, it’s Friday again, but instead of a figure photoshop this week, I decided to do a fan art of Mirai. Hot off the press, just finished 10 minutes ago, radiantdreamer brings the latest news to you!

Like my art? Have some questions about how it's done, or the techniques I use? Ask away!
And there's always more of my art on my blog.

Thanks! I used to take snap shots and explain each snap shot, but that took way too much time, and didn't really show anything "in action", so "video diary" of my works is probably going to be a routine thing from now on. (and you can spot my mistakes in the videos too! ^_^;)

Nice. I was surprised to see that you only used 4 layers. Usually I will end up with 50+ layers.

Actually, it's not "really" 4 layers. I used one sketch layer, and then a base color layer. I duplicated those two and merged them into one layer and hid the rest. So I'm essentially doing one layer.

I typically use about an average of 10-15 layers for my work, so this was more of a fun experiment.

thanks! I had trouble deciding what sort of facial style I wanted Mirai to have - cute and bubbly, or sweet and gentle? In the end I went with sweet and gentle, since the lighting and everything seemed to call for that sort of mood.

    Always like your work.
I love The shirt creases around her oppai. And yes, drawing long hair to your right hand side is difficult, when I draw on a paper, I usually turn the paper upside down to draw that part ^^

      You noticed! ^_^

I'm starting to like drawing clothes a lot. It's fun to do! And yeah, hair thing is hard to draw going the other way. Plus flipping the canvas helps you see things from a different perspective and pick out your flaws to fix! :)

thanks! a lot of it has to do with the brush type. If anyone wants to know - it's hard brush round 0 spacing with shape dynamics minimum 0 value, opacity between 50% to 75%, 100% flow, airbrush turned on.

Wow, gorgeous work man, great style you've got...

...I hear you on the hurting hand thing too, I figure when after every stroke you're having to stretch and shake your hand a bit then it's time to go do something else for half an hour (says the man with an RSI in his right index finger ^^;)

      Thanks! I'm still trying to get a style that I can be satisfied with. I think I need to try harder. ^^;

Definitely gotta take breaks more often. I was so focused on painting this that I didn't realize I missed breakfast! It was near lunch and I was like "I feel a lot hungrier than usual... why is that? ooooh..."

Haha: headache, faintly ill feeling... forgetting to eat, been there, done that too oddly enough I never forget to caffinate myself though =P My personal favourite however is: "wait a second, why is it dark?" or more usually "wait a second, why is it light?"

As for finding a style you like: it'll come, I honestly don't think there's any reason to force things, just change it up as you go along trying new stuff. To be honest though I tend to view styles as an evolving thing, in that there'll always be something you feel you can do better. Just go with the flow :D

Thanks, you're right. Style does sort of develop naturally. I guess I'm just not happy with my current style at the moment. ^_^

Yeah, I've had that happen to me a few times where I look outside and thought "oh, it's still dark out" when it's gone from morning to night already. ^_^
