1080p on Unibody Macbook

I have a late '08 2.4ghz Unibody Macbook. Does anyone with this same laptop or similar have problems watching 1080p? I've been tryna watch some 1080p BD mkvs using MPlayer OSX Extended and it either doesn't play, lags, or is choppy.
Also, if you use something else to watch anime, what device do you use? I have a WD HDTV but it's horrible for watching any MKV files and was a complete waste of $100.

Hehehe, AWESOME screenshot from K-On, I had to giggle! I use my computer to watch anime since I don't have a tv in my room and the bigger tvs downstairs are used by the family.
try VLC player
You can try using Plex. YOu can download it for free at http://www.plexapp.com/.
I have a mid '07 24.ghz mbp (upgraded the RAM to 4gb), and I can play 1080p videos with the app just fine, eventhough sometimes the video and the audio is out of sync.
But imo, 720p and 1080p doesn't really have that much difference for me, so I usually just stick to 720p (partly because I don't have 1080p screen ^^;)
But yeah, try using Plex. It worked wonder for me in 1680x1050 monitor (had to reduce to half-size tho)
Yea I have 4GB of 1067 DDR3 ram but it didn't do much to help anything. The main issue with the K-On! BD was the video would lag behind the audio. I really wish I could watch it and if I could understand Japanese without subtitles, I would have bought K-On! instead.
I just use Media Player Classic, but I don't know whether Mac supports that or not. I'm gonna be a Windows fanboy till I die. :D
I use my ps3 to watch anime quite frequently and stream it to the ps3 via Tversity. No problems playing h264 1080p videos whatsoever. To watch those on my pc, I had to download something called coreAVC. Not so sure what it is exactly, but it solved my lag issues. I also tried ffdshow on my other desktop with the same results. Both work just fine if you dont want to watch using a ps3.
Core AVC is a video decoder for Windows using Nvidia CUDA technology. If you have a Nvidia card u can watch 1080p stuff even with a 2,8 GHz SingleCore CPU on Windows. Using it since.. a long time. ^^;
Is there something like this for Mac? Could solve the problem.
Yea the core player pro for mac has the AVC codec built in. Give it a try :]
Don't know about Macs but it might be due to driver issues. Try downloading and installing the latest graphic drivers. The latest Mac Books should have its own discrete graphics card being ATi 4xxx series cards which should be able to playback full HD with no probs.
I'm using MPC on Windows without any 1080p playback issues.
As for other devices to watch anime... it would be my iTouch or PSP ^^;
Not many devices support .mkv files natively so it would be better to convert them to .mp4 first.
The WDTV might yield better results with MP4 vids so you should give it a try.
I posted a tutorial on how to convert softsubs to hardsubs if you need more info for the conversion mumbo jumbo

I have problems with 1080p. My laptop doesn't isn't powerful enough XD. I have to change settings & hope for the best, I think adding a 2nd GB of RAM helped, but my laptop is still shite.
