I've gotten quite an interesting batch of response on my blog about this survey from Otakuma, an otaku matching service in Japan about the Top 10 anime listed by male and female.

Basically this survey lists the opposite of what the "norm" is used to be that males like the giant robots and females do not. Of course this is just done in Japan, so results may vary in other countries.

I have my own theory about this, but others have also commented that this isn't very accurate either. What do you think? Is this list accurate for you?
Some girls like some handsome characters while we're boys like some "cute & sexy (ecchi)"characters...me i am normal..
yeah I agree...but since Im a hard core mecha fan....cute girls come second...

I am hard core mecha fan, I only started watching other stuff after exhausting, Gundam, code geass, macross frontier, eureka 7, full metal panic and neon genesis evangelion.
Are there any other notable ones?
Some people will suggest Shin Mazinger Z and Gaogaigar. ;)

well, I love gundams first then K-on second....call me all you want but that's my list.
I like all the animes boys like ^^ and whoa I'm surprised under the guys list is Hetalia lol. Thought it appealed to girls more
That kind of surprised me too. ^^; To see Hetalia on the guys' list and not on the girl's list.
There is no boundary on Otakuism... ^_^ We're one big happy family... :D

I've noticed more females getting into Gunpla.
Possibly because the guys are buying all the dolls. :p

Time hasn't changed for me! Majority of this list does not appeal to me at all. Long live to Giant Robot and Queen's Blade S2!
I really am deprived of the Giant Robots anime right now... the last thing I saw was Gundam 00... I have yet to watch Gaogaigar and the new Mazinger >_< Well I can't find any Xvids for Mazinger, so there's a reason, lol.
And somehow I fell behind with Queen's Blade and haven't even finished season 1 yet =(
I know from that recent brain sex test that I am gender neutral, so it's not out of the question that neither boy or girl preferences in anime meet my criteria.
I admit Queen's Blade S1 wasn't that engaging but S2 is leaps and bound away from S1 in terms of story, plus my dear Airi-chan taking center stage from episode 5-7.
Shin Mazinger Z is the most badass anime I have watched last season imo.
Where can I take this brain sex test, btw? I'm curious.

I laugh at this seeing how my list is a little of both ^^ I think K-ON is overrated but still funny seeing how it is on both lists around the top. Sounds like my friend would really like some female otakus seeing how they like mecha about as much as he does ^_^ Come on people, not enough love for the SOS Brigade ;p Tops on my list.

I have a group of five, all-otaku, but it seems the mecha otaku's just me. They admit the sheer coolness of mechas, the super robots and mobile suits, but still, they like flesh more than metals XD
