Fake Kagamiku figma

Posted by Koharu [www]

This may be the last time I purchase a figma off eBay.

Fake Kagamiku figma

My new Kagami figma arrived from Hong Kong recently... and it turns out she wasn't as real as I thought she was. This is the first time I have ordered a figma off eBay that's seemed dodgy like this one. See additional photos and details on my blog.

*EDIT Adding this text in a bit late - was just fiddling with photos then suddenly I could already see 19 comments before I had even put in the words! =O

The printing on the back of the box was poor. Looks pretty dark in this photo, right? Well that is exactly what it looks like in real life. =/

She came with ALL the normal figma accessories and was packaged exactly like the real ones too.

Are her joints supposed to be able to do that?

Paint job looks pretty flimsy on the collar there.
I did notice, however, that it was a very good copy. The makers had clearly gone to a lot of trouble to make it identical, but it's mainly the joints that let it down.

See how the hair is shiny and plastic-ey? I expected it to be a matte texture like my winter Kagami figma.

So that's a warning for anyone about to purchase off eBay - make sure you check the feedback for any mentions of fakes and maybe don't buy from Hong Kong like I did. Kagafakeu is going to be shipped back to where she came from.

If you're absolutely must buy from eBay... Always go for those from Japan...

Luckily my Figma Lily is from legimate source... I have doubts about eBay when I use it some time ago as well...

    aw shucks. :(
I've only ordered stuff on ebay either from Taiwan or Hong Kong, and in addition to that, you must check for:
    2000+ ratings
    99.5% or more rating
price, to see if it is around the reasonable price range of the product
    check the person's other items,

I don't buy off the internet often, becuase I'm not allowed to buy stuff off the internet so I ask my friends to do it for me. :)
or rarely I buy from amazon at home or go to abctoy4me's store since it takes an hour for me to drive there plus it is cheaper if u go there in person and judging by the interaction between talking with them, it is good.

There's one easy tips to tell a figure is fake or not at ebay:

Find the seller word who saying: "AUTHENTIC" or something that indicating not a bootleg.

NEW, NIB, NISB, Never Used, (with or without 100% mark) does not indicating if that figure is an Authentic one. You don't see "AUTHENTIC" declaration from the seller, it mean 99% bootleg.

Do not use Rating and number of transaction as your main guide only, because even a seller with low number of transaction also sell Authentic figures.

They don't always need to the sticker to be real.
My figma Drossel arrived from Otacute in Japan and it's 100% real, but no sticker.

The best is to go for online stores like Amiami, Hobbysearch, HLJ.
Or even better go for the preorders.
Well, thats provided if you have the cash at that time.

Quite a good bootleg there, they manage to copy the face pretty good.
Its like someone snuck stuff out from the Max Factory factories there in China.
Well, they certainly learn some stuff there.

LOL. For a fake, her face looks really good. :D As for sellers from China and Hong Kong... You have to do your research properly before you buy. I've bought plenty of figures from HK and China that were indeed legit.

OI! Since these figures are mass produced in China, it really wouldn't be hard for blueprints and sketmatics for these figure designs to go around and get in the hands of fake figure manufacturers. Just saying.

I always do my research before purchasing off eBay. For example, for the winter Kagami figma (100% real) I ordered, I checked the sellers feedback, which was very good, and as for the country I got it from - can't remember exactly, but it definitely wasn't Hong Kong! Pretty sure the description said it was authentic too.

And as for why I purchased this one? I think I might have been off my face when I clicked 'Buy It Now'.

    I think its pretty legit...
It seems real except for 2 points...
    The leg joint [knee]
and the over shinny-ness of the Hair...

I personally do not own a kagamiku [the stomach looks abit fat]
But hope this helps by comparing yours with this - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10085659

It's a surprisingly good fake. Aside from the shininess the quality of the paint job looks as good as the real thing, although those joints are definitely off.

When I want cheap stuff, I get it from china. When I want the good stuff, I go to the source! And maybe amazon for nendos and figmas. Don't forget china also made the fake but identical iPhone and iPods as well.

Oh, one thing I notice about bootlegs... the real deal usually have an actual sticky tape at the top and bottom of the box. Bootlegs usually don't have it taped at all. Of course that's easily remedied. And I also noticed one of my new figmas and it had a circular tape instead of the strip.

And of course the other thing is that if it's too cheap to be true... then it usually is =/

eBay sellers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, China or Thailand should always be treated with extreme caution; most of them sell bootlegs and pictures are no guarantee whatsoever. This applies to merchandise as well as DVDs. Japanese sellers are usually OK.
