Vista

I am not too wild about upgrading to a new operating system. Since I have Vista I have a quite few problems with it and it has made me more causation about upgrading. I think that I might stay with Vista.

Windows 7 from what I heard from somewhat reliable sources have said, "It has a good amount of problems,"

Here is look at my Vista desktop. With rocket dock, my side bar gadgets, and allot of stuff on my desktop. Just some documents for job hunting and fan fic stories that I write in my spare time.

Here is link to the wallpaper ...

Finally I would like to make a current poll to see

What Microsoft Operating System is preferred at this time?

I do wish I have have talked to the sales staff about an XP downgrade.

The only problem I have with Vista is that it's chewing up a Gig of my precious RAM all for itself. It's greedy and I need that extra RAM for gaming.

I had 0 problems with Vista, although the performance decrease in gaming was not particularly nice.

Windows 7, however I've had ZERO problems with. Gaming performance is much better, OS runs smoother, looks nicer, etc etc. Overall I prefer Windows 7 much more than Vista.

I have Windows 7 sitting beside me on the desk just waiting to be installed. I'll be installing that onto my new machine when I get a case and motherboard. That machine is going to be sweet!

It's a tool, a tool I say, it's how you use the tool, things in this world are not perfect because they are man made, nothing is perfect, why have several versions in the first place?

My laptop came with Vista Home 32bit, wiped it, installed an XP Pro x64...just google how to do it. Why did I switch? Simple, the tool was using me, I didn't need that, so I took time to learn how to make the tool work according to what I needed it to do.

Windows 7 is definitely my OS of choice right now, but other than the ability to run multiple display drivers at one (NVIDIA and ATI in the same system) and some cosmetic and UI differences I haven't seen THAT much difference from Vista. But thats because Vista64 gave me very little problems to begin with. I got my Windows 7 licenses through the $30 student discount and for free from my university's MSDNAA program. If you can't get the upgrade for that much of a discount, it might not be worth it if you are happy with Vista right now. However, if Vista is giving you problems, upgrading to 7 will be just the ticket.

IMO Vista at its current form is very good. Windows 7 is better at utilizing a little less resources, otherwise it's the same deal with a little different and more useful UI. It has some issues with current crop of third party softwares though. For example, with the latest Kaspersky KAV2010 build (736), under heavy network traffic (torrent), the computer will get slow like a snail after a while and force you to do a hard reset. After switching to Microsoft Security Essential I have zero problem, now. Another thing is Windows 7 driver of my Xonar DX is not a solid experience for me (current version 17.75).

Verdicts: I say the OS is pretty solid and worth upgrading if you have the money to burn. Otherwise, Vista is fine. Functionality-wise you will lose nothing stay with Vista.

Vista has gotten better, but overall Win 7 is a better OS. There are some issues (Older devices not fully supported, some programs do not run without virtualization) but I have yet to run into a major speed bump with Win 7, while I heard nothing about complaints on Vista. If you have the money, upgrade to Win 7. (If you have an .edu account, you can get it for cheap.)

I've used Vista on my home gaming rig for around 18 months and to be honest I haven't had too many problems with it, but on the other hand I recently upgraded to 7 on my Asus net book and the performance gain over xp has been quite pronounced.

Perhaps its when you don't have much in the way of raw processing grunt and memory that you appreciate just how much faster and more efficient 7 is over XP. It's 7's greater smoothness and lower system overhead that is making me think that its time to try it out on my gaming rig and get rid of Vista. I like the idea of 7 using nearly half the ram that Vista does and I'm itching to see how something with more serious power like a gaming rig would go with 7 on it.

I have absolutely no problems with Vista. A lot of people talk crap about it, but it's all based on personal opinion. I think Vista is fine. Some people say XP is the best, and some people say Windows 7 is the best. If you have no problems with the current OS, then you should stick with it. However, I wouldn't suggest downgrading, as there are more positive things about Windows 7 than bad things.
You could always buy a Mac, but I doubt you have an extra $1000 pocket change to throw around do you? Upgrading is the way to go.

Take it from the Microsoft employee that's been testing 7 since the M3 build (pre beta)... it's the way to go. ;)

I really dont see the need to upgrade the OS. Vista runs fine, and it will be supported indefinitely or until microsoft decides against it.
Plus, you'll save yourself the fees and time associated with the upgrade.

And I never understood all the vista bashing. The weird quirks and annoyances could easily be fixed and the problems with pre SP1 vista are running their cycle right now with Win7. I have Win7 upgrade discs next to me, but I can't be bothered. Vista isnt broken as everyone makes it out to be; I really havent gotten any troubles from it. Thats not saying Win7 isnt appealing to me; just can't be bothered to make the switch.

If it is not already obvious enough, a LOT of problems in Vista has been fixed by Service Packs 1 and 2, although I won't deny that when Vista first came out, it was an entire mess; of course, what Operating system isn't filled with bugs upon release? Been testing quite a bit of games under Windows 7, so far, it has been a pleasant experience, especially with 64 bit drivers. Nevertheless, you aren't really missing out if you upgrade from Vista to 7, just a new user interface with more eyecandy.

I totally skipped Vista but have been using the free preview version of 7 for months now without issues. Got the upgrade on 10/22 when it came out and am a happy camper. Definitely worth the upgrade.

I'd go with windows vista as my choice OS, win7 looks nice, has improved features of vista and more, but I don't really see win7 bringing anything new to the table. As Vista was just released it was compatible with loads of software, same thing with XP when it first came out but most people forgot about that, XP was terrabad when it first came out until SP1 came out to patch it, and the same goes with Vista.

I was an early Vista user, and was very happy with it's stability and performance from SP1 onwards. I have since moved to Mac, but if I was still on the Windows platform, I'd be considering the upgrade to Windows 7. It's got a lot of great features that are very much like OS X, though I can't fathom why Microsoft are still charging so much for the upgrade, when for at least $100 less I can buy the full version of OS X Snow leopard bundled with iLife09.

I've yet to actually buy a copy of Windows 7, but I've played around with the Beta and RC and quite like it compared to Vista.
Well, I'm right now on a MacBook... but if I wasn't, I would definitely upgrade to Win7.

From what I heard Windows 7 has quite a few problems. Might not have the same memory appetite; but it still have quite a few problem non the less.
