AFA is tomorrow and I have a question for all you convention goers. What do you do at conventions? Do you like to attend all the scheduled events, or do you like to visit the dealer rooms? What about mingling with others that share your passions?

Also, for tomorrow's AFA09, will there be a meet-up? Anyone bringing figures? I personally will be going on both days and hope to meet some of my fellow Singatakus along the way!

Will be wearing the Yui tie and Negima badge. (^.^)

Also how many of you guys will be going for the concerts?

    u'll know what to do when u get there. and bring whatever u think is necessary. autograph items, markers, light sticks (for the concerts), cameras, figmas and nendos, name cards (if available), DS, etc. That should be enough. ^_^;

    I've only ever been to one convention, Anime Expo 2008. ^^; I've been to loads of ren fairs, but those aren't *quite* the same thing, even though they do have some similarities. What my roommate and I did at AX is that in the car on the way we went over the schedule we printed off the website, made note of the panels and other scheduled events, and organized them by priority. ("OMG, we've GOT to go to the Mega64 panel!" "Ooh, they're showing Spirited Away, even though we've seen it it's good. . .that's a maybe. . .") Any time that didn't have a must or a maybe event, we spent in the dealer room and the artists' alley and tried very hard and unsuccessfully not to spend money. XD

    If I'm visiting the convention alone, I'll be selective in which event I'll be staying for so I try to drag my friends along to kill some time in between events.

    Figmas/Nendos are your best buddies to bring to such conventions. Might be taking Drossel-Ojou sama out for a walk...

    I'll note what panels I want to see first, then the dealer room. After that it's pretty open.. check out the cos'players, maybe a viewing session. I try to relax and enjoy the vibe.

    Lets see.. What do I do now at conventions or what I did at conventions when I was younger?

    When I was younger, I'd do all the convention things.. go to the Cosplay events, watch those.. The Anime Music videos.. The Dealers room.. Hang out with like minded individuals. Etc..etc.

    What I do now.. Avoid the F***ing fanboys with a passion.. Make fun of them, hope they all die of a strange nerve gas attack.. And generally avoid the convention at all costs except to work on resin kits with my buddies.. who also do the same things . We look up attractions in the city were the convention is.. and go to them!

    I usually go to a convention with a battle plan of things to do and see, but I always end up spending a lot of time just wandering around, taking pictures of cosplayers and talking to other attendees. I love panels, but I have trouble keeping focused if the event isn't something that just fascinates me. I spend some time in the dealer's room, usually scouting for figures and manga that I can't find in my local book store.

    We don't have decent conventions here. I went to Japan ex in London a few years back and all it was were stalls selling stuff and some pretty poor 'shows'. The lolita fashion show was crap, the cosplay was very hit and miss and everything else I didn't bother with. The taiko drummers were the only good thing.

    So all I did really was shop. Eeeer great, because its not like I could have done that at home without paying hefty rail fares =/

    I love attending in cosplay and I spend almost all my time hunting merchandise in the Dealer's Rooms and Artist Alley. It's also great to check out the few truly amazing cosplays, but it's a challenge not to gouge out my eyes after seeing truly horrifying ones. For me, it's all about the high I get from getting merch I can't find locally and having pictures taken of me in cosplay. =^_^=

    I usually take pictures of the cosplayers. Seeing people dressing up as their favorite character and having fun always puts a smile on my face. Also, it's great to see cosplayers change overtime: at first their costume looks bad on their first try but after some time they gain experience and skill and become great cosplayers! I am confident enough to say that Filipino cosplayers are in par with other countries like Japan!

    Other than taking pictures of cosplayers I also buy the exclusive event souvenirs if there are any (t-shirts, mugs, posters, etc). I also browse through the many booths for figures, magazines and other products (like these booths that sell anime-related accessories). Sometimes I watch the performances on stage too.
