Fauna repair help wanted
Alas, an accident has happened to one of my girls, and I'm in need of some tips on how to fix her.
When I was cleaning my Fauna figure, I had to take her off her base. But when I tried to put her back afterwards, the plastic peg snapped off. Looking at how small it is, I'm kinda surprised it didn't happen earlier, but that of course doesn't matter now.
So, I already undertook 2 attempts to glue the peg back to the base using strong glue, but it failed both times. I think it is practically impossible to do it anyways, since the peg is only like 2.5 mm in diameter so even if it does stick, there's no way it will take all of Fauna's weight again.
Now I'm thinking I'll just have to make my own base for her, using a small bolt or screw to hold her up. The problem is, that I can't seem to find a bolt that fits exactly, mainly because the peg hole widens up at the bottom. So even if I get it squeezed in moderately good at the top, Fauna starts wobbling again because the bottom is wider. The fact that the peg hole is only like 4 mm deep doesn't help either: the entire weight has to be carried by a very small support.
Now, I basically see a number of options
- Use the best fitting little bolt, affix that to a new wooden base and just accept the little wobble and try not to touch her.
- Take the smallest drill I have (2 mm) and make the peg hole slightly deeper so that the bolt can fit in further, hopefully eliminating the wobble and giving her extra support as well
- Find a very thin screw and (gently) force that in an fix to the new base
- Use a thin and long nail and hammer that into her leg and the new base
Personally, I don't like option 1 because that way there will always be a bending moment trying to topple her over, and therefore there will be a lot of sideway force near her ankle. I fear that eventually, the PVC there will just give way and her entire foot will tear.
Obviously I'm really scared about starting to drill in her leg, because it will be very hard to go straight. I might end up coming out the side o~o
With the screws I don't know how wel the pvc will behave; will it move aside like wood or just simply break? I'm thinking the latter.
And finally I don't know how well a nail will hold her up, nor how I can hammer it in 'gently', not to mention going straight.
So if anyone has any tips on how to fix her, I'd be eternally grateful. Otherwise I don't see any way of restoring her, but I don't want to box her up forever or, *blashemy* bin her. Thanks a lot!
[UPDATE 25-11] Well thanks a lot for the tips everyone! I ended up choosing the least intrusive method, namely to just use a small stick to support her under her dress. She's standing again, although it's not that pretty. But what can you do? ^^; If she ends up falling again, I may glue her to her base, but for now I'll stick with this ^^

May I entertain you with a project that I did to fix an Asuka that was leaning a bit too much?

Pinning is an option, but that will involve drilling up to the leg that is going to stand on the base.

That usually works.. Pinning so to speak.

Tnx, I'll check that out
I had the exact same thing happen, except I made up a custom wooden base and used a nail and the peg. She stands up straight again now.
I'm surprised the Fauna has managed to stand as long as she has. There is just nothing there to hold a figure of that size up and on one leg. If it were me I'd being doing a custom base of some kind. I'm sure there's tutorials around for that sort of thing.

So you put a nal in her leg? Was that easy to do?

the exact same thing happened to my Fauna. Never got around to fix her. She has now retired and is placed on a shelf somewhere, pity, she is so pretty <3

I think you can solve it doing what Wolfheinrich did, but just drill the base and put a metallic bar that fits Fauna foot perfectly. Drill a figure require a little experience in drilling....

The peg on my Fauna also broke. I fixed her by using "Industrial" strength Super Glue. I don't know if they sell the "Krazy Glue" namebrand in ur neck of the woods. You can find "Industrial" strength super glue at Major Hardware stores.
PS. As you can see by the pic no side effects to the figure itself, e.g., Paint Damage or other.
GOOD LUCK! ^_^

Wow interesting. But how did you manage to do it? I mean, I got the peg to stick eventually, but it was a really messy job because I could hardly hold it. And so it didn't really adhere well and immediately came off after I applied only a little force.
Could be that the glue was still not good enough. Did that 'industrial' stuff stick within seconds? In that case it might work.

I think that he might've just glued the whole foot to the base. So far, the only problem I've faced is a leaning Ignis problem, and I just went ahead and glued her to the base, cause the leaning got annoying.

I did the same thing and pretty much glued the entire foot to the base. I wasn't sure how secure it would be so I used a straw and some sticky tack to prop it up as well. It doesn't look nice but it's better than leaving it in the box.
