My turn to AFA.

Posted by RadiantDreamer [www]

While many people chose to focus on the merchandise, I decided to focus on the participants of the con – the cosplayers. With Singapore being the next most proliferate anime hub, the cosplayers have quite the reputation to hold up, and it doesn’t disappoint.

Well, it's been a few days now, and I've recovered enough from being sick to compile my photos from AFA.

There are too many photos to post here, so do check out my blog for SIXTY PHOTOS! OMG.

Quite sad that this was the only pic I got of Danny Choo as he was mobbed and rushing away. I shouted “DANNY!” he looked over, and said “Hey!” That blurry thing in front of him is his hand as he waved. If I’m not mistaken, that’s Alodia. It’s blurry, but you can see her Witchblade makeup still on.

That's nice, even in a rush, he still smile at the camera. He's so photogenic!

I have to agree. It was very nice of him to turn around, and address me. Very respectful and polite!

Suddenly, Danny seems like he's gained 3x the speed. Is that real Negi that Miku is using... feels kinda weird holding spring onions around and twirling it... (did that one night when I was alone T_T)

Yeah, Danny's quite busy, or I would have gone up and say hi too. I hope he'll be back next year.

The Gundam cosplay is awesome every time I look at it. There's quite a few other memorable cosplays too, though I only went on the second day (cosplay competition was held on first day): Taokaka (BlazBlue), Kyoko Mogami (Skip Beat) and bunny suit Haruhi (Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi).

The quantity and quality of local cosplay have increased, I think. Some people might say it's important to re-produce the costume as accurately as possible, or to bring out the look of the character, and such. I can see those are good points, but I think it's all good as long as the cosplayers enjoy their hobby.

I'm glad that the Gundam cosplay won the contest. So much time invested in that costume. Local contestant gets to go to Japan = win! Alodia definitely wins on popularity, but that Gundam is shear awesomeness.

I never thought of it as "as long as cosplayers enjoy their hobby". That's quite true. People (such as myself) who don't cosplay tend to look at cosplay costumes with a critical eye. Especially when the standard has already been set in Japan.

The Gwendolyn cosplay looks lovely. The picture looks a bit photo-shopped though otherwise that is some really good lighting. ^^

I'm sure it's been photoshopped. But I definitely like it! I'm guessing she was standing by the window at the time this photo was taken. A lot better than the crappy lighting I had when I shot a pic of her. ^_^

awww... same thing happened to me too. At the time, I believe he was talking to Alodia saying "I'll be back" or something. I think this was when he made his exit back to the hotel to de-armor.
I had no idea I was looking at Alodia at the time. O_o

the camera I have is like, 4 years old. ISO was set pretty low to reduce grain, which may explain why the exposure is set high, and lots of blurry pix. :( I'm looking at the Sony TX-1 now, because it's stylish, and has all these cool features like anti-motion blur (I'm guessing that's more than anti-camera shake) among other things. Would like to test one out under low-light condition... sad that Sony cams don't do SD card, only proprietary Memory Sticks. :(
