Assembling a Nendoroid Army

When you collect anime figures, you either collect or have heard of nendoroids. The odds of owning at least one nendoroid is high given the multitude of designs and characters being used from anime series.

The nendoroid bug is really terrible in the sense that if you're really into cute, super deformed characters, there's a good chance you'll be hooked and will be buying many more.

Well, I got one nendoroid out of the sheer cute factor and soon realized that they are just too cute for words. Suffice to say, it was not my last and I have amassed many more since the first purchase.

Currently, I have roughly 160 nendoroids + nendoroid petites, but I'm not 100% sure of that number. There are many nendoroids not seen in this picture as I took this picture a long time ago. There's more information and pics at the blog.

      @Crimson: Hahaha, indeed, it is.

@Kyourin: Ah, well, you are in Japan, so acquiring figures of all sorts is easier for you. In other words, you've got a much bigger pool when it comes to recruiting for your army. If it's a war, we need to bring in everyone. My Queen's Blade/Gate army is slowly assembling as well^^

Nendoroids sure are addicting. I wasn't planning to own so many (I own about 20) but with all the new nendoroids coming out it's very hard to resist. I've also begun buying re-ment and dollhouse accessories for them. T_T

Your collection is very impressive! I don't think I could ever own/afford that many!

You know I think I remember seeing you on the Toyslogic forum. I'm not a member there but I do lurk occasionally. Your whole collection is beyond amazing. You own the most amount of figures I've ever seen in any person's collection.

But I am envious with all of the great deals you get. I live in Cali too and I don't know of many places to buy these figures (for good prices anyway). LOL tell me your secrets! :D

I also have my whole collection in their original boxes too. I haven't taken them out yet but I know when I do it is going to be an awesome experience. I look forward to seeing your collection on display. ^-^

Nope. I almost bought her, but my main focus is video games and full-scaled figures. I don't want to lose out on either one - which is already happening - because I end up splurging on a super limited item. I have come to terms that I will revisit whatever I missed and buy them when the bracket for disposable income is much higher.

I never even really wanted to collect nendos (or even figmas) but you're right about one thing... due to the sheer amount of different characters, it's been hard to bypass most of them. A lot of my pre-orders are nendos, too... which sort of frustrates me, haha, but what the heck. How can you ignore the cute? :|

I actually wanted to collect figmas more, but there's not as many characters that I like that have been figmatized versus those who have become nendos. GSC needs to slow down with the nendos or I may very well become surrounded by them. xD

Exactly. I end up preordering nendoroids upon announcement or scooping up the ones that I missed out on through sales. I feel that GSC produces waaay too much that there's bound to be someone that appeals to your idea of cute.

I am not into figmas as I feel that not all figmas transfer as well as others. If I wanted something articulated, I would most likely upgrade to a RAH of someone or just further invest into nendoroids or full-scaled figures. But, I have seen some really beautiful figmas.

OMFG. I'm surprised you're not in the poorhouse! Mind you, if you keep them mint in unopened boxes, then within a few years you could probably sell the retired ones for a king's ransom (their value increases incredibly)! If you ever get bored of them, that is. I envy you so much. All my disposable income (and then some) has gone into figures over the past year and so far I've only got about 30 figures/nendoroids total. I can't even fathom the cost of your collection! =^_^=

@Haine: Agreed. If GSC doesn't seriously slow down their intensive production of beautiful/cute figures and Nendoroids, I'm going to have to start considering selling off internal organs to pay for them.

HAHAHA! If you look at the picture closer, you'll see some figure boxes in the distance. Well, I have figure boxes stacked as high and even higher than the nendoroid wall, so I think that is probably a scarier observation. No, I'm financially fine. I am not into selling unless I have spares or there is some really terrible situation. Everything I buy stays with me as I do not waiver in my feelings over collectible items over time. I dare not fathom the cost of my collection, either^^

I'm really curious what the other "walls" of figures you have look like now. Have you opened any/all of the boxes yet or are you one of those collectors who keeps everything unopened?

Nah. I am just an admirer. I try not to go into this hobby saying that I will collect nendoroids as it will further disappoint me with some of the ridiculous releases even though I might as well have that approach given the situation, haha.

Yup. They are definitely an investment at that price and the abundance that is being released and that's not even factoring out frustration level with limiteds/exclusives. I think someone would have to know what they are getting into (financially and resource) to dive into this aspect of figure collecting.

Not to put your collection habits off my sir but I never really got into Nendo's because of their disproportionate body and face etc.

I had a good look at some of them and sometimes I just think...'WTH?! This isn't the character xxx I fell in love with in the anime'

Mostly to do with the eyes and the shape of the mouth.

    Still cute though.

N.B. I despised figmas as soon as they were released because of their joints...now everthing has changed LOL...I am a figma nut...so I might come back in half a year to have a huge pile of Nendo's by my desk...ya never know.
