GN-001/hs-A01 Gundam Avalanche-Exia
I have just a handful of gunplas; since I only got infected by the bug somewhere around last year. But it bit hard ;) Anyways, here's my 1/100 NG Avalanche Exia. Though I assembled a few MGs as well, this one has to be my favorite since it gave me the least headaches and the paintjob went relatively smooth (YOU HEAR THAT MSN-06S SINANJU???). Paints were a combination of Tamiya spraycans (pricey... but the dinky cans are oh-so-cute!!!) and industrial cans (so cheap... these could double as insecticide/hairspray if you ever happen to run out of either) from the hardware store. Here's a summary of the more significant colors I used for the Exia :
Colors :
1. Tamiya TS-18 (Metallic Red)
2. Tamiya TS-19 (Metallic Blue)
3. Tamiya TS-20 (Metallic Green)
4. Tamiya TS-38 (Gunmetal)
5. Tamiya TS-42 (Light Gunmetal)
6. Tamiya TS-45 (Pearl White)
7. Tamiya TS-47 (Chrome Yellow)
Basically, it's an OOB build with a few decals stolen from my Aile Strike and Musha. This was before I discovered what a blessing water slide decals are ;)

Whoa, that blue color looks amazing! Great job!
Thanks beamknight87! It's from a Tamiya spraycan (TS-19) ;)
seriously...the blue color look awesome! :D
I agree, guess custom paint job does make it even cooler! Will start doing it for my next gunplas ^-^
Incredible spray job~!
However I don't like Exia in such heavy getup... It's more suitable being a lightly armoured melee MS...
Oh!! Guess I can't really use my Avalanche Exia now that I've seen yours which is done better than mine.
That blue metal flake is just awesome man, Kinda reminds me of the GN Particles^^ you did a great job:) Your Exia looks mean as hell too, great pics and love the last shot=3
Good luck with the giveaway!
This is only good looking Exia ^^
Love the metallic blue you applied.
Very nice!
Thanks all for the kind comments, appreciate it!
Aw man...I'm just repeating the others here, but that blue looks awesome. :P
the blue looks so sexy x11! Me repeats that too here. support you bro!
Hey, many thanks guys! Yeah, I'm kinda suprised by how the blue turned out as well, but in a nice way... lol. Anyways, my chances for this giveaway is practically nil (the Sandrock looks super-Pro, the awesome Wing Zero - winner from Z's compy joined as well, there's even a PG Strike in the list the last time I peeked!!!), but it's nice just to participate and get to know new ppl with similar interests ;)
Great photos and I'm loving the blue. I was expecting your Sinanju to come out but this one rocks as well ^^
Thanks Z! I was planning to submit my Sinanju, but the pics didn't turn out too well, so this was the next best thing from my stash ;)
I like the metallic colors and the details. It gives me the illusion that this thing can move on its own. Well done. I grade it G. G for Great.
that's a nice and good looking blue color you put on that gundam..i hope i can buy avalanche-exia, that's 1/100 model i want to buy..since i always buy 1/144 and SD..
dude, awesome work with the spray cansss
i tried also some tamiya paint on my kits, but i blew it :( i guess i need to sand the parts before painting.
did you sand the model before applying the paint?
Yea... just some minor sanding and washing of the parts prior to applying the paints ;)
Wow... Awesome paint job and colors. Actually I bought 3 MGs already: Red Frame, Blue Frame, and 00 QAN. They are still boxed and untouched since I don't want to spoil my first MGs. I'm scouting around here to learn a few things before I start assembling but bro, I think I have to learn a lot of things before I start unboxing those gunplas. Hehe...
Just a question from a novice: did you use gundam pen on those thin plack parts, or you painted those? If it is painted, how did you do that? Masking? That's a pain in the neck if you did mask those. :)
Yo bro... I only used a gray gundam marker for the panel lines. Basically I just mark the lines down with the marker and wipe the excess off using my fingers. That's all ;)
Wouldn't that smudge and mess the paint scheme? You have good dexterity though, even for the gold handpaint on Sinanju - that's awesome. I don't notice any grooves due to the brush. Wish I could have steady hands like you bro. I use gundam marker on the bare plastic of my HG 1/144 for practice but when I do something wrong, I erase it with thinner. That won't work for painted parts though.
Suprisingly, it was relatively easy to wipe off the excess marker stains from the plastic parts after I sprayed it with a coat of Tamiya Pearl White. Handpainting the gold parts were a bitch though... I had to put down around 4 to 5 layers, which kinda made those parts kinda thick with paint. But luckily it didn't look to obvious from far... ;)
Thanks bro. I'm gonna try some painting over the holidays. Work eats up a lot of my time so the vacation's going to keep me busy on my gunpla. I think I won't finish it though but I'll be happy if I finish a leg or arm though. Hehehe... And I'm waiting for your blue frame - just to let you know.
Just a question, did you use primer to this exia prior painting? Or you painted directly over the plastic? Is sanding a must?
Nope... I did not use any primer on this exia. For me sanding is a must as it'll help remove all the unsightly nub marks the cutter didn't manage to get rid of, also it'll make the paint job look much better.
Good luck bro... ;)
Btw... I'll only start my blue frame early next year... work takes up way too much of my time lately... sigh...
I have a lot of questions, don't I? Hope you don't get freaked out with me. Another question, did you glue the parts together and sand, then paint? Or you took it piece by piece, paint, then assemble? :)
Unfortunately, I didn't glue the parts together before I sand and paint the parts. That's why you can still see a lot of seam lines on my exia. Basically, I took each piece and paint them individually, then put the whole gunpla together according to the manual.
Thanks for the tips bro. I will start working on the holidays on my Red Frame, will post it once done. I'll just do sanding and painting like you did on this Exia (well just for a start), no gluing yet. I don't really have the luxury of time also. :)
Great colors. Makes the model more cool.
Thanks bro!
