Toonami

I was cleaning out my car, when I found some old treasures, namely Deep Space Bass, Dexter: The Hip Hop Experiment, and my old Gundam 0083 VHS tape (It's weird thinking that VHS' are twice outmoded now). This led to me going on a long nostalgia trip over Toonami, and how my memories of watching Blue Submarine #6 on the block are almost a decade old now. I feel old q_q
I even ended up writing an article on it.
Anyone else have some memories of Toonami? Of playing those online games whenever they switched out Toms? Of Tenchi Muyo, and how when you were watching it, you thought he was running away from the girls because they had cooties (Maybe only my 9 year old self did that...).
Toonami was what introduced me to the world of Anime, but more importantly, it inspired in me a sense of wonder, something not commonly found on American TV.
Toonami, you will be missed.
"Bang"
How about you guys? Do you remember Toonami?

THank you so much for mentioning Blue Submarine! i was recently trying to recall the name of that anime with the "mutant people and submarines" but i couldn't, think of the name to save my life. man i miss toonami, i miss all the cartoons in general that used to be on Cartoon network
Toonami came much later to the UK but I still remember when I returned from hong kong and saw a preview for gundam wing. I was estatic because that was the first gundam show to be aired.
Good times.
I'm sure I have videos of taped shows like samurai pizza cats but I'm too afraid to check them in case the tapes get eaten or something.
I had a similar experience when they aired Evangelion on Toonami. I couldn't even believe my eyes.
Used to stay up all night waiting for Evangelion, and Trigun. There seemed to be something awesome on every night!
Same. I had heard quite a bit about Evangelion but never saw it until they aired the first episode on 'Giant Robot Week'. Right after that I started buying the series by DVD. Luckily I caught Eva-fever right when they released the Platinum Series which features a remastered version of the entire series in addition to quite a bit of extras all at an amazingly cheap price. Think I spent less than $30 to complete the television series. I skipped Rebuild since it was a recant and just bought End of Evangelion to finish.
I miss Toonamis.I would run home from the bus stop to get home in time to watch YuYu Hakusho,Ruruoni Kenshin,and my all time faverite,G Gundam.I was sad when it was Saturday only.Then when it was remolded.But when it was cancelled.That was the saddest day of all.;_;
I still look up the remix promo's they had every now and then.
Likewise I really miss the good cartoons on toonami. I feel like modern cartoons are not as good. Hopefully they will bring back an anime style TV block on cartoon network. Adult Swims block just doesn't have the type of shows I like and too many reruns.
From what I've been seeing, it appears they're slowly phasing anime out altogether. I only see it on Sat from midnight or so till 5 in the morning >.<
I really miss Toonami. That was much of my childhood. That's what really got me into the Gundam series! I remember watching Gundam Wing and G Gundam when they aired. I also became a huge Outlaw Star fan, too.
Oh, Toonami ;_; I still remember it when it was hosted by Space Ghost's Moltar.
Melfina, my most favorite heroine ever! (>^^)> I love her.
I have to thank Toonami for that.
Moltar! That was back in the day. I remember watching Toonami after getting back from classes in college. I'd watch Tenchi Muyo, Ronin Warriors, Outlaw Star and so many other shows on it. I wish they had kept it going, because weekdays at 4 PM Eastern is the doldrums of TV, even with 600 cable channels.
I remember watching Dbz and Gundam Wing on Toonami. When they aired the first Gundam series, I thought "What is this ripoff of Gundam Wing?!"
Yup I remember Toonami also, I watched DBZ and Gundam Wing on it but I didn't know that it was over until I found out last year, but by that time I was already watching any via download.
Toonami had TONS of excellent anime. I had to watch DBZ on a grainy upper channel I could barely tune in on a good sunny day in Dallas Texas until they came. Between them and another extended cable channel show *don't know tis ok to mention them or not? Heck with it...TechTV.* I believe put good anime out there in a big way and introduced literally millions of people to this.
And was Steven Blum always the voice of TOM?
TechTV really didn't start airing anime until 99 or so, when they had all that dead air time on weekends. It was still cool, because all the shows they had were tech- or information-based (Betterman, Lain, Read or Die) Sadly, it's gone now, G4 has stripped that corpse. (BTW, if you want programming that's like the old TechTV at it's height, go hit up http://www.twit.tv/ for all the podcasts, or live.twit.tv to watch the shows get made.)
Steven Blum was NOT always the voice of TOM. He did every TOM except the first, IIRC.
Cool! Thanks for the info. Will check it out.^^
Toonami, i gotta give them credit for getting me into anime. They introduced me to some of the greatest shows I've seen period. Gundam Wing being among the top. Adult swim would come in at a good second, for Cowboy Bebop, although Bebop is my favorite, Toonami was just so much more entertaining as they had more variety.
Good call on Adult Swim. Bebop will always be an all time classic, ranking right up there with Akira. Ghost in the Shell, Paranoia Agent, Full Metal Alchemist. They have had alot of good ones too.
In The UK. On Toonami I watched the Gundam Series on Toonami/Cartoon Network. Watched Dragoball Z, GT on it too. Also Watched the Gundam Wing Endless Waltz on there too. In The UK there use to be a anime dedicated show on Sats/Sundays and late nights where they just show and talk about anime. They showed Nadesico and Evangelion too. Also one late night I stayed up watching Gunbuster from beginning to end
I can remember watching Moltar handing over the controls to tom1. I continued to watch up to tom3. I actually started watching anime because my sister would watch Sailor Moon, and DBZ and Gundam Wing came on right behind that.
That seriously just brought tears to my eyes ^^ I miss toonami a lot. I watched Dragonball Z, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing,Endless Waltz, Mobile Suit Gundam, G Gundam, Rurouni Kenshin, etc on there. I don't remember seeing Evangelion on Toonami but I now know that it was on there. Geez, this makes me feel somehow old now :p I also miss that Adult Swim doesn't show animeanymore >_< Then again, being the japanophile I am, I usually only watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles. DBZ and Gundam being one of the few exceptions to that rule.
Yeah, Eva was on there. They had to edit it a lot near the end (Like they did with Tenchi and the nudity.) but it was more or less complete.
Looks like I need to watch Tenchi Muyo once again ;p Anyways, I still wish that Toonami was still around...or at least that it would make another appearance.
Toonami was pretty much all I watched during my childhood and middle school years. I remember being pretty mad when they moved it to Saturday nights and then cancelling it altogether.
Those were some good times when Toonami was still on the air, DBZ, Big O, MSG: The 08th MS Team, and so on. Now it just seems like there's hardly anything on Cartoon Network these days...
I remember it. I used to tape it all the time. I was really into DBZ, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon and Power Puff Girls.
Now its not the same with Adult Swim.
The did help in the anime revolution of late 1990's
back in my time toonami meant gundam wing and shaman king
NOOOOOOO!
Dang. Never knew Toonami started just a year after I was born. But I remember it so weeelll. If I'm not mistaken, Toonami started showing Naruto before Cartoonnetwork did, right? (even though Toonami was a Cartoonnetwork thing)
