All the time as I buy my figures base on their quality rather than my knowledge of them XD

-Your thoughts on the shining series?

    Never play it =/

    -Is Alfin a get?

Koto's figure quality have been up lately, so I say definitely go for her if you like her ^^

      I'm the same as you.
Sometimes, I have no clue what series or line, a figure might be from, but I look at it, and if she looks cute, or i really like the quality of it, I'll end up getting it.
Also, because I end up buying something new from a series I do not know of, I usually end up looking into that series, and it introduces me to something new.

      Anyways.
      Shining series?
Never played it. But, I do like Tony Taka's art.

      Alfin?
I like Blanc Neige's design more.

I used to be same way - only bought trading figures and pvc figures from anime series or games that I've played. After a while, I started going by the quality of the figure, seeing as how it got harder and harder to resist even though I knew nothing about the background of the character.

For example, I have absolutely no knowledge about Shining Wind, but my brother recently brought back an Elwing figure from his trip to Japan, and the figure is absolutely gorgeous. I thought to myself...Heck, why not?

Yes, if she's cute then it's a get.
-Your thoughts on the shining series?
    Haven't play it yet.
    -Is Alfin a get?
    Definately.

I bought my Figma Nanoha on an impulse at AX--her design was pretty cool, even though I didn't know the series (and also didn't know how much cooler Exceed mode is than Aggressive, hah). Then over several months after that, I kept hearing from people to try to watch past the second episode of the first series, all of them basically saying, "The first couple eps are lame, but then it gets really super cool!" Finally I caved and watched it, and was very glad I listened. ^_^ But yeah, I actually got both Figma Nanoha and Figma Fate based on their coolness level.

I've only purchased figures from shows and games I've seen. It's not like I don't want to get ones I'm not familiar with, it's just that ones I know are higher on my list of prioritized gets.

-Your thoughts on the shining series?
Never played it, but the character design looks really great!

    -Is Alfin a get?
    She's definitely a cutie ^_^

I don't think there is anything wrong with buying a figure which you know nothing about. As long as your happy with it nothing else should matter. You can even discover series you normally wouldn't hear of so it works both ways! ^^

Favorite shining characters are from tears and wind. Only played wind though I don't understand JPN. Got a summary of the story through sources but overall I don't think of it highly only the characters as they are drawn by Tony. Since I don't know her I will pass and go with the wind characters that I haven't gotten around to buying yet.

As for buying figures I don't know, I do but I don't impulse buy, they have to appeal to me A LOT first! Well, given the available choices I am a bit disappointed. There are 2D characters that are loved by the masses that are figurized over and over and are bought over and over that makes me think "How many different versions do people want till they are satisfied?"
I also find the majority of them to be inferior to the ones I like too especially in terms of illustration. While the ones I would like to see figurized at least once never do and will probably never even be considered (T_T) <- see I'm crying

I tend to buy figures I only know the background of, but when I do get one of the impulse buys, I buy it, then go look in to it's background (Ex. Watch anime, play game, VN or all of the above).

I buy figures from unknown backgrounds all the time, I've only played Shining Tears and Shining Force EXA. Alfin looks great and all, but since it's only a 1/8 its hard to decide whether or not I would get her since she's gonna cost about 90 usd.

    Well I immediately got Kureha and Neige because they're just so beautiful. For me it's enough to know the name of the series/manga/eroge the girls come from; I don't need to know their entire backgroudn ^^;

Won't get Alfin though; not enough resources plus I don't really like her expression.

I have a bunch of figs that I never saw before. But for holy, first sight in Melissa Seraply for example, is a get, or look at Queen's Gate Alice Figure, I couldn't lose that opportunity, even that I don't have idea until now what exactly is Queen's Gate.

    And of course Alfin will be on my wish list ^^;;;

I mostly buy figures that I have seen the background for, however this one I did pre-order without knowing anything about her. Purely on the basis that I think that it is a really nice figure.

In the past, I strictly stuck to figures of characters I knew, but now it's mainly for the quality of the figure coupled with my attraction to it. Lately I have been buying many figures of characters I am unfamiliar with and I don't regret it! It felt a little... awkward(?) at first, but then I got over it because I absolutely love them. And to me, that's all that matters, haha.

Koto's Alfin looks very nice. I'm tempted, but I'll wait to see more pics.

Knowing the character behind the figure helps me in understanding why the figure is doing a certain pose, or wearing a certain costume, or having a certain expression. It's a factor in deciding if I should get a figure, but quite a minor one, really.

I'd say I don't know many of the characters which my figures are based on. I have eight Kotobukiya Shining Wind figures. They occupy a prominent eye-level position in the display shelves, a position only given to favorite figures. However, I know nuts about Shining Wind and have never played the game series.

The major factors for me in deciding whether to get a figure lies in its detail, quality, pose and such. The face is especially important. Even a minor detail like the lips bring alot to the figure's expression. Examples include MegaHouse Echidna and Max Factory Mai Shiranui. These factors far outweigh other considerations. What it means is that if I find the character "meh" (to put it kindly), but find the figure interesting and appealing, I would get it. Examples include Yamato Ayanami Rei and Max Factory Real Image Yoko.

I guess I enjoy figures and games/anime/manga separately. I have 3 Suzumiya Haruhi figures (Freeing bunny Haruhi, Max Factory Extravaganza Haruhi & Daiki Kougyo Haruhi) and only 1 Nagato Yuki (Freeing bunny Yuki), though Yuki is my favorite character in the anime. Yuki's character design simply doesn't lend itself to a figure design that I go "I want!" (though the closest would likely be Max Factory Extraganza Yuki).

As for Shining Force Feather Alfin, she looks nice, but I think I'll pass.

    never played it

    -Is Alfin a get?
i have doubts, but i will get it anyway, if you aare noizi ito fan, its no wonder you are attracted to this figure, because i am noizi ito fan, she's her character designer, and maybe entire shining tears heart character designer
