Detolf figure lighting

Posted by O.i.D [www]

Well I thought I'd share my nearly finished figure lighting with you all :3

This is my nearly complete lighting setup. It consists of Ikea Dioder RGB LED lighting strips controlled by a micro controller that sets the RGB color.

So not only do I get lights off and lights on;

Mouseover = load notes.

I can get Red, Green and Blue!

And I can also combine RGB to produce lots of other colors;

Mouseover = load notes.

Also, the colors can be programed to follow certain patterns and effects thanks to the MoMoLight hardware/software and the BobLight software.
My version has slightly different hardware, firmware and a software color controller.
It's not pretty, but it works for what I need;

Mouseover = load notes.

The whole setup can work as an ambient mood light, gently fading from one color to the next, or pulse violently at the rhythm of music.

Installing the Dioders into the cabinets is simple, but the wiring is a bit tricky, here are a few pictures of how I put mine together, its not permanent and is held together with tie wraps!

No peeking at Faunas pantsu!

My goal is to get each Detolf shelf LED strip to be controllable individually as right now it only has 3 channels. Although I'm using a programable micro controller you can still have multicolored goodness with the standard Dioder controller!

    Too much color, I like a simple light setting.

    Looks like an arcade.

      Yeah, the colors are very strong xD
      I mostly have it set to gray or a slight color shift to match my mood or the figures I'm looking at.
      When I'm watching something on the computer it also changes color so my whole room turns the same color as the screen, quite comforting, unless you get 20 color changes in a second D:

    I love the different color lights. But I wouldn't have a clue on how to install it for myself. I'm not good with wiring. T_T

      LED lights are generally very cool, bright, durable and energy efficient, compared to standard florescent lights. It's the next generation of lights, once the cost comes down. Halogen lights are very bright too, but produce much more heat.

      Led's produce as good as no heat at all, they're ideal for figure lighting in that aspect.

    I saw those lights at Ikea when I went with a couple friends, but I didn't realize you could custom-program them! Crazy. Now I'm having peculiar visions of dioder lights attached to my glass desk just under the black trim. . . Actually, the more I think about it, the better it seems, seeing as that would basically turn my desk into a giant light table.

    oooo that's so cool, I bet they look awesome when they are synchronized with the music, I'll love to have them but got no space for an ikea detolf, would be great just to put them around the courners though, good job (-_0)b

    Very nice lighting setup. I also like how neatly the cables are laid.

    Is that a hamster cage on top of the detolf cabinets?

    Wow, that's pretty amazing! While I knew about the color changing Dioder set hadn't thought you could use your own controller to program the colors that way, very nicely done! Also cleaned up the wires pretty neatly.

    Have the simple white led Dioder set mounted in my Detolf myself, all linked through a single cable for less clutter, really great illumination for figures.
    Here's some photos on my blog:
    http://bluebluewave.wordpress.com/2009/11/15/detolf-with-dioder/
    And a few snapshots at night:
    http://bluebluewave.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/detolf-by-night/

    You should make some photos at night with only the leds, the effect is great.
