My First Daughter - Nia -

Posted by ggem

Well I finally caved in and adopted my own daughter. I was so surprised how light the doll was. But seeing these dolls first hand, I think pictures really can’t do them justice. I’m very happy that that I was able to adopt one. They’re definitely a lot of fun and I think My Nia will probably need a sister in the not too distant future….what have I gotten myself into? ^^;

-- also, anyone who also has nia, I was wondering if you had any tips on how to put on the headpiece. It's impossible! lol

I'm more a figure collector but I would buy a doll here and there if I liked the character or if the doll was really cute. But this past year, I guess out of nostalgia, I started buying a lot of dolls from shows I loved in the past and then I started buying a lot of the AZONE releases. All of these dolls of course are 1/6 scale and I really didn’t think I’d consider getting a doll larger than that size, but hanging out here, I think adopting a dollfie dream is just going to be a matter of time..lol..

I actually decided to adopt a dollfie dream a month or so ago. From all the releases so far I really liked the ones made for Gurren Langann. But I decided to just go for newer release dollfie since they would probably be easier to get. My plan was to try for the Mashiro lottery and if I didn’t win then see how the White Album ones would look. But then the 2nd Gurren Langann movie premiered here in San Francisco and it definitely renewed my interest in the series, so much so that I was determined to get a Gurren dollfie! Lol

It was hard to decide between Yoko and Nia since to me they’re such great dolls. I ultimately chose Nia because she’s really pretty and I loved her outfit and her hair. To me, Nia is such a well designed character.

Although I think Nia is starting to wonder why my Gurren autograph/sketch collection is mostly that of Yoko ^^;

There you go! One sketch! Even one of your real Dad! lol..

      I'm not sure just yet. But I was thinking about adopting one of the Volks Image Characters either Aoi or Yukino and have fun customizing her by changing the hair, eyes, etc.

        If you're going with that, you may as well get a blank head and a base body and paint her a custom face while you're at it. Sure, your first face-up might not turn out so hot, but if you coat her with some Mr. Super Clear or the like, you should be able to wipe off the old one and replace it at your whim with no problem. You'll get some practice at fine motor control and have a one of a kind girl to boot. :)

          Yea I definitely want to try to do my own customs as well. I'll probably buy one of the blank heads and practice.

    Congrats on your first daughter! And welcome to the obsession; you will never have any peace from here on out. I adopted my first daughter in August after a long debate, and I adopted her sister only about two months later. It's better than drugs.

    I really wish I had Nia. She's so beautiful, but I just can't shell out the money needed to order her from Y!JA since the prices are so high. Maybe, one of these days, I'll be able to get my hands on her.

      yea, getting prior releases is pretty tough which is why i originally was just going to try for newer releases.
      Your best bet is going to be sellers in forums or an auction site.

      There's one in Yahoo Auctions Japan rite now. The price is pretty good for now:

      Yes, when I opened the box and saw Nia,I knew I was doomed..the thought that ran thru my mind was something you mentioned either here or your blog, which is DD are kinda like a next level if you're into figure collecting (or something like that, sorry if i misquoted you!). But yes, a new chapter in my otaku collecting has started....Actually your and Chibichibiusa's Otacool Rooms played a part in my decision to look into dollfies. Your collections are just so awesome!

    I like your pictures. And i wouldnt call nia your first daughter. I would consider all dolls and figures to be daughters (exept of course the male figures would be your sons). So nia already has sisters imo.
