Geek.Kon 2009

Posted by 3Dx

Geek.Kon is an anime / sci-fi / gaming / etc convention held in Madison, Wisconsin. About half of my pictures are cosplay, the rest are general shots around the con.

See them all at my flickr page. Oh, and in case you're wondering why each picture has two images it's because they were taken in Stereo/3D. Enjoy 'em as you see 'em or.. get a stereoviewer and teleport yourself back to the Kon..

Has anyone here looked at stereo photos before? What do you think about them?

Geek.Kon pix are formatted for parallel-viewing. The Saber image below is an example of a cross-view image where you cross your eyes until the left and right images fuse together into one.

It's a matter of personal preference, but the quality of parallel-view images is much better.. especially when looking at 4x6 prints instead of the monitor.

yunamon talked below about crossing your eyes to view stereoscopic pix so I added this one. My Geek.Kon pix are not setup that way.

This stereoview is properly set for cross-viewing. Give it a try. You should be able to clearly see Saber's beauty!

He's a boy about ten years old I'd guess. In the photoset there's a shot of him being interviewed for a cosplay documentary by an independent videographer.

Stereoscopic! I've tried the ones on Sankaku before... Brilliant!

    Here's how you see the 3D outta 2D... :3

Cross your eyes and look at the centre of the picture, now try to slowly focus and place each of the image on top of each other, voila~!

It takes practice tho... Good for exercising your eyes (Coming outta my mouth, it just sounds so wrong... ^^;)...

The most common types of stereo are parallel-view (like my images) and cross-view (as you describe.. cross your eyes until the images merge together).

You 'can' see my images in cross-view but it's a false stereo effect because your left eye ends up seeing what the right eye is supposed to (and visa versa). This mixes up the brain so the effect doesn't look natural.

Use a viewer from loreo.com (their 'Pixi' viewer) and you'll have no eyestrain PLUS a clear, crisp image.
