Figma goes old school

Posted by Snow Cat

After the announcement of Subaru a few days ago I was looking forward to what new figma will be announced today, I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed when I saw the latest entry in Figmas blog.

Presenting Lum Invader from Urusei Yatsura

Mouseover = load notes.
Figma goes old school
Mouseover = load notes.
Figma goes old school

Lum also comes with Ten-chan.

Mouseover = load notes.
Figma goes old school

The other figma announced was another Rumiko Takahashi character, Inuyasha's Kagome. While not being a fan of the series I am somewhat interested in what else comes with Kagome.

I suppose they can't get away from sailor fuku characters after all.....now only if they make the entire sailor senshi line.....

                One of these days, you'll find yourself saying that aloud to an old-school anime fan, and he will BEAT THE STUFFING OUT OF YOU, FOOL. >D

                Seriously, if figma wanted to have a slice of the old-school fans wallets, they can't go wrong with Lum. She's NEVER been made into a posable figure before to the best of my knowledge.

                Oh, one more thing: Sailor Moon figma WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Bandai won't stand for it.

    Apparently, Urusei Yatsura is still a popular series after almost 30 odd years. I am a big fan of Takahashi, These are a must buy for me. I might give the Kagome figma to my mom for her birthday too. She really likes Inuyasha too.

    The Sailor Senshi would be EPIC! I would get it at almost any price. To me, this is really good news.

    I'm not a fan of either series particularly, but I'm really glad to see the Figma line branching out a bit into new territory after endless Nanoha, Lucky Star and Haruhi Figma. I'm sure it's great for fans of the series they favour (I admit to being a Haruhi fan, but I'm not especially interested in the figures) but for everyone else it gets pretty tiring to see them focusing on the same shows over and over again, with most of the exceptions to this winding up expensive limited editions.

      I agree! There are too many Haruhi, Nanoha, and Lucky Star figmas! They were great at first, but releasing the thirty different versions of each characters was a bit much. I'm glad that they seem to be doing some variety, even if they aren't characters I'm particularly fond of.

    Wow, Figma had suddenly been slapping so much Newly Announced characters to us!

    In contrast with your disappointment, I'm pretty excited about Kagome, I being a huge fan of InuYasha back when I was small... But Kagome would be nothing if she only comes with her bow. =___=

    These simple-sculpt Figmas are huge chances that GSC is giving us for Custom Figmas! Maybe they're gonna hold a "Customize-your-Figma" contest in the future... =3

    I'm disappointed. I like the look of both the figmas, but I was hoping for some newer characters. If they're going to do "old school" series, I wish they would do Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura. I'd personally like more figures of new series, like maybe a Railgun set of figmas.

    I think figma Lum is cool, I like old school anime stuff!! (maybe cuz im a bit old haha ^^")

    Now Kagome by herself doesn't interest me too much, but if they make a figma Inuyasha to go with her, I'm so in!! haha!

    I would sooooooooooo buy all the Sailor Senshi figmas if they were made, including all 3 versions of Sailor moon (regular, super & eternal) and all the way down to the sailor stars senshi and sailor chibichibi! *obsessed*

      Figured *you'd* go for Sailer Senshi... :)
      Was talking to the girl at the Anime shop. She's saying that figures are starting to get ridiculously priced. Figures that should sell for about $50 - $75 range are being priced around $130 -$150 and up. Even Figma's, which were around $44.00 are now going for $55.00 CDN. This keeps up, and they are going to price themselves out of the market. She's even said she's not stocking figures because of the prices.

        yeah... the price goes up in Canada cuz they are either imported from Japan or US, then + the currency exchange... we are doomed lol.

    Looks interesting. Not really expecting much, the more variety the better.

    Even though I am a fan of Takahashi Rumiko, I will wait to see what kind of accessories they come with.

    Like the others have said, more old school figmas are good. It shows that figure manufacturers haven't lost touch with the classics.

    I grew up watching Urusei Yatsura and really enjoyed it. Lots of Japanese and American references. I say give this is show a chance. Inuyasha's already popular so I'll leave you guys at that. I don't think I'll be buying either of them for some time for the sake of my wallet though...

    Now, if only they make a Doraemon Nendoroid, I would be completely sold.

      heh heh heh! Now THAT I would seriously consider picking up. But Figma's got to get the expressions right or it ruins the face. ^_^

        Doraemon Nendoroid, I mean. As for Urusei Yatsura I second Lohengramm sentiments. The slapstick comedy is classic Japanese humor. Unless you understand the language there are tons of wordplay and tons of comedic "cameos" in the series. I personally will pick up the LUM figma for the sheer sake of sentimental reasons.

      I thought Doraemon already has the proportions of a nendoroid...

    I'm looking forward to this. I love Rumiko's work and I grew up with it. It makes me so happy to see something different. I'm not very fond of K-On so I'm not happy at all seeing all the figmas and nendoroids pouring out LOL. They have enough merch :X It's the same with Lucky Star and Haruhi. (Not a fan of those shows either! LOL)

    Lum is adorable, though! And I agree with other people, I would f'ing love to see Sailor Senshi figmas. And a Wapiko nendoroid. :) GO OLD SCHOOL <3
