Perfect Grade Aile Strike Gundam
My very first Perfect Grade kit, after being intoxicated by Gunplas for 3 years. Although I have some level of experience in fixing gunplas, but I'm yet to go into airbrushing, like most of you all out there. Time is the first factor and followed by the second, which is the most hated factor, the financial difficulty :(

Alright. What I've typed just now has disappeared because I'm still not used to this new platform (miss the old figure.fm :P)
I like this model a lot because of its complexity and proportion. I had been drooling in the model shop over this for the past 2 years!

So this is my first Perfect Grade kit which I got last year. 3 days after I bought this, Bandai then announced the release of PG Astray Red Frame. That made me upset a little. I like Astray more than Strike actually.

Due to my limited skills I can only do some minor touch ups. I used gundam markers to paint the inner frame's hydaulic pipes and panel line them as well. I know they are going to be covered up by the armors, but I just tried my very best to make it a "Perfect" grade.

For the inner frame I gave it a flat coat, while semi gloss on the outer armor. Something new that I've tried on this model which I didn't practice on the previous Master Grades which I've assembled.

Can you spot the difference of the surface consistency? Maybe the picture can't really show much, but it does actually if you see it in front of you. Worth trying.

Grand Slam. My favourite weapon. Bling bling effect makes it looked even fiercer.

By the way, in fact the way I adapted Danny's style in taking these photos. Before I got my hands on this model I was reading Danny's posts on this model for multiple times. Too bad I didn't take in the spraying for busy people style. But I do like the way Danny take his photos with the natural sunlight :D

Somehow I can't think of any new pose with the beam rifle. SEED style pose is over populated and I've already got bored of it :P

Posing with the beam saber would be easier due to its light weight. By the way, this is the longest piece of beam part I've got among all my models.

My very first Perfect Grade kit. Hope that I can get the PG Astray Red Frame after my final exams as my second PG. PG 00? Don't think so. At least for now. You can read more about this model for the intro, building, completion, and Grand Slamphilic.
Thank you!

Your hard work paid off, Mike!
hey tamerchris, you know me? can i know who are you? I'm curious :P
Good choice sir!!
Strike is one of the best Perfect grades out there, tho I'm partial to the PG GP-01 for personal reasons (gundam 0083 was my first UC gundam series and the MG GP-01 fb was my first master grade)
The first MG that I've known was the MG GP01fb, when I read it from the magazine about 11 years ago. Therefore GP01fb supposed to give me some nostalgic feelings about it. But before getting the PG GP01, I'd like to get the Astray first! That's because Astray pulled me into the gunpla world again after I quited gunpla for 9 years!
My gundam collection started with the GP01 back in 1996 and has grown quite large! Unfortunately, I don't have access to most of them so I can't use them for this comp danny is doing (not that it really matters cos the winner is already decided. And damn good it is too!)
I bought the first run PG strike so I don't have the aile pack but someday, I plan to get a strike rouge to fill that little gap. Then I just need the PG RX-78-2 Gundam and the new OO gundam and I will have them all!!
Except for the Zaku, but who cares about the zaku? doms were cooler anyway!
hey hey i do think that Zaku is cooler than Doms actually, lol!
having no access to the large troop of gunpla is a sad thing and i totally understand that, i'm having this situation now too. in fact the photos here were taken months ago when i was at home.
why strike rogue since you already have the strike? Having said so, means that you already have the Zeta and WZC as well? how great :D
Strike rouge comes with the aile pack as standard. Thought I would use the pack on one and the grand slam on the other. (there was also a Resin kit addon by G-system a while back, which gave the PG strike an IWSP pack, but it's disappeared)
And yup, I have Wing zero (my first PG), and zeta as well as the PG GP01 and mkII. The PG Red frame is next to me now, just waiting to be put together.
I see. I've seen marvinryan's PG IWSP backpack, that was a heavy stuff! So you've got the full line up of PG series minus the Red Frame. Can you still get the first press limited parts now?
sorry guys. In fact I typed a lot of description under "managa image" section. but they didn't turn out and disappeared! my typing effort gone! tell me how to make itwork please. Image-description-image-description pattern...
Just type what you want into the box next to the pic, but be sure to click "save" which appears under the pic when the box turns yellow to save the text.
Or you can write them all and press the save all button at the bottom, but you MUST save the changes or they won't show up
No wonder. I didn't click on the save button just now, because I didn't even notice them! was too happy typing just now. alright, problem solved. thanks!
hey, I know it's sounds amateur-ish, but whats the difference between semi-gloss and flat coat? would be great if you can naswer ^^:
not a problem dou2.
Gloss - shiny finishing. mostly used for car models and rarely for gunpla i'd say.
Semi gloss - consistency in between gloss (shinny) and flat (dull). used in gundam that you see in the official photos.
Flat - dull looking finishing. doesn't shine and make the plastic feel to be abolished almost totally. quite a lot of them use this for gunpla but i'd prefer the semi gloss though.
i hope these little piece of information may help you a little...
Ah thanks for the info... even though I already bought a top coat XD
Good thing I picked semi-gloss. I always pick ones that's in the middle. I was tempted to make my Gundam glossy though ^^;
I tend to use flat, but even that has a small level of gloss. It's the reason why I don't topcoat my resin kits!
no top coat for the expensive resin kits? what about protection my friend??
So, the flat one is the one with sandy-looking result, right?
Guess I'll have to buy the semi-gloss coating for my gundams ^^
yeap. flat coat or what we called as dull coat is the one making ur gunpla to look "dull", sandy looking. it's all up to you on which one to choose. some like semi gloss some like flat :)
Jeez lookit all those details in the skeletal frame 0.o
I'm also a "straight build" kind of guy for making Gundam, so I wouldn't really do any touch ups or painting or anything. If I do I'd just use a Gundam Marker.
straight build doesn't harm, what matter most is the joy of the building. PG is great enough without any extensive painting though!
nice details mike! (referred from tamerchris comment lol)
I want to get the red frame PG too! not sure if I should just straight build or do some touch ups XD
thanks! if you are going to get the PG red frame, is it going to include the first press parts as well? if you do, you may need to detail up the inner frames as well, so that it can look good after applying the crystal clear armor parts on.
Great work!!
thank you!
Lol, knew it was your post when i saw that all too familiar background for the strike XD
not really the background, but the similiar photos i put in my background huh? hehe.
Strike can do a variety of advanced poses, which Red Frame cannot do because of certain complications... Which I pointed out in my reviews...

Be innovative... There are cooler pose you can do like this one I did on my Red Frame... ^_^

impressive work yunamon. i don't pose it with extensive poses because i always fear that i might wreck it. in fact i only play this PG around for like... 4 days? after that i was away from home and once if i got home, this PG is still standing still in standby mode in the glass cabinet. i didn't bother to flex it around, too lazy :P
i wonder would it be too late for me to buy the PG red frame with the first press parts during this late august. because i only end my final exams that time, and i don't think i'll buy it unless i pass my exams well. i really want the astray >.<
I bet you can still find those Special Custom Sets lying around, albeit a little too expensive... >,<
i hope so. the last time i saw they offered the special custom set with @ RM750, without @ RM660. but i have a problem here. How about MG Exia Ignition? How about Skyline Optimus Prime? Damn I have so many to buy!
Hey Mike, are some of these more recent shots? Makes me want to go start on my Strike ASAP xD Waiting on the compressor, which is a bit expensive and hard to source here as well :S
i wont say these are new shots since i've taken them moons ago, maybe you had yet to see them. You've got your compressor mike? grats!
Decided not to wait for the compressor as I really first wanted to use my stash of cans (I have quite a few). So far finished most of the lower torso and legs. Will be starting on the upper torso this weekend...
By the names of Cerberus!
It seems that after I get my hands on Astray Red, Aile'll be the next one XD
Get the Astray Red first. because I prefer the astray more, more pose you can do with the gebera straight as compared to the grand slam.
Really impressive!!!!!
It's a good PG!!!!
I'm waiting the 00 now...
PG 00 Raiser = 26,000 yen = 1/3 of my future work's salary. No way i can get it. I'll just forget about it although i want it.
Just curious, where/how did you get that action base/stand for that Aile Strike of yours? I need to get me on for my PG Wing Zero Custom =[ My little brother was posing it and his foot broke off!! =[ I was thinking of buying the clear action base from G-Systems. (Beautiful Aile Stike btw =] love that Grand Slam (steak knife) sword of his)
PG Strike has no stand. If you buy the PG Skygrasper + Aile backpack then you'll get the stand. Of course, if you buy the full package, the PG Aile Strike Rogue then you'll get the whole thing. PG WZC has no stand I know that sucks. G system's clear base is way better, go ahead for that! Yeah I live the Steak knife too.
Nice photos and blog! Great job :)
Ok, this is my opinion only....
A nice airbrush setup would set you back the same price as a PG kit. Starter paints and thinner will cost you barely an MG kit. Brushes will cost you barely an HGUC kit. Looking at your display shelf and this PG kit, I think you can make that expense. And you can always make time. Even 1 or 2 hours a day would do, weekends will give you more. If you really can't spare time then don't, but I doubt that will be the case ALL the time.
So the question here really is: Are you serious and enthusiastic enough about this hobby that you will take the expense and make the time? If not, you can always be a collector.
