My Otaku room evolution

Posted by Chibichibiusa [www]

I was browsing through old pictures (non-digital) and found 2 old pictures of my room. I thought it would be fun to compare it to my room today, to see how my otaku room evolved over the years ^^

I think it would be interesting to see how everyone's collection has evolved over time!

My Otaku room evolution

That was my plushies and figure collection in late 2000! hehe!! That was before I had a credit card and before paypal became popular with ebay, so everytime I bought something online I had to go to the post office to make a money order, or go to the bank to exchange some money in US dollars to send through mail. It was quite a pain haha...

Before that, I had been buying french translated manga from the local bookstores (started with Sailormoon ^^) for about 4 years. Manga was the only anime-related thing I could buy locally (besides Pokemon toys). There was few rare US import anime VHS tapes in very few stores (you really had to look hard for them), and they were super overpriced, about 40-50$ canadian for a 60 min video!!!!

I got a credit card sometime in 2001 and soon became an ebay and paypal addict! This is how the same shelve became about 9 years later. Mostly old figures and a lot of gashapon.

That was part of my room in 2005. My ufo catcher plushies was already pretty big at that time. This is also around the time when I started being very interested in volks 1/6 dollfies, ball jointed dolls and dollfie dream. I bought my first dollfie dream that year ^^

In 2009, same view of my room. My room is now filled to maximum capacity due to a dollfie dream invasionl! I need to move to a bigger space soon ^^

Yup it's a Lafiel figure, the only one made to my knowledge! It's by Yujin made in 2002. I'm pretty sure I bought her from HLJ a few years ago. She's quite small but still very pretty, she's a tiny bit taller than figma Reika (which is my tallest figma). HLJ still has the page up even if she's sold out, you can see a better pic : http://www.hlj.com/product/YUJ92433

Thank you! I think it will probably be impossible for me to find her now but I will keep a look out. Definitely will add her to my want list. They should make for stuff for that series. Actually I think Lafiel would make a great dollfie ^^

I'm sure you could find this Lafiel on the second hand market, just might need to keep looking for a while. Yahoo jp auction maybe? ^^

Lafiel Dollfie! I would want that hehe.

That's a lot of development of your collection. You have a really nice collection of dollfies. Btw who's that dollfie sitting in the middle on the right cabinet (the one with brown hair). She looks adorable so I'm quite curious.

From the closer picture: She's the third doll from the bottom left side. The one with blue shirt and yellow ribbon. Now that I look at the closer picture she's even more adorable :).

I agree she's really sweet, thanks for the info :). I personally like your re-dressed version more than the original. She's just simply adorable (can't find any better word to describe her).

Mew 2! Forgot about him... haha. I think he's still somewhere in my room too ^^
I remember buying that and the blue one (Maril) at Wal-Mart, pokemon was pretty much the only anime stuff you could buy at local toy stores. I wasn't a big pokemon fan, but though these ones were cute... I had 2 mini pikachus 2! hehehe.

Certainly your room has suffered a huge revolution since 2000 but, knowing you, that's not a surprise at all but what I like more is the combination of your Sailor stuff and your dollfies (you're gonna need another room soon, you know?).

    Lovely nostalgic pictures.

Oh!... and the dollfie laying on your bed looks exactly like you! ^^

Oh yes I swapped their faces, I noticed I could do that one day and thought it was cool! It's like I can re-dress them sort of. These figures are pretty well articulated and comes with such fun accessories hehe. You could swap Mutsumi and Naru for variety! ^^

Sega real model 1998! These figures are soo old and sort of simple (they are hollow lol) but still very lovely imo. I got the Ruri one too, but she's kind of hidden in the 2009 pic cuz she's pretty short ^^".
