I Have Been Deceived
While I'm sure that this is a common occurrence in any figure collecting hobby, I'm still stunned at how different the final product (I think) differs from the initial production pics...
Case in point, the Yui AZONE doll that I was terribly excited for... In her production pics she looked like this:

Then, from AmiAmi, we have:

Finally, Hobby Search put these set of pictures up which I do believe are pictures of the final product (I could be wrong):

I mean, it just might be her pose, or the camera angel, but this doesn't appear to be half as good as the initial pictures. More importantly, WHERE are her hair clips?

Her Heart shirt seems to be sold separately as well...
Also, here's pics of her in her box from Moeyo:

Urgh. Whom do I trust? It's a CONSPIRACY I tell you. Of course, I'm not that affected by this as I canceled all my December orders as I'll be heading to Japan to buy everything in person. How many of you have had the experience of the final product not living up to or differing from the initial production pics?

However, there are also cases where the final product is tons better than the prototype as exemplified by Mopip Yui, looking way better in person than in the pictures. I'm sure you've come across many instances as well,
Whatever the case, I'll still probably pick her up as I'm a crazed Yui fan. (^.^;)

Had that with the Mio Plushie.
During pre-order period, she looked nice.
At release, new pics were uploaded and she looked derpy.
..wonder when they'll cancel my order.
Got an example, even.
This is when I posted about her on my site:

and the current pics on jbox/list:

Could be that the legs are visible or the head a bit stretched out.
She just looks so different from before.
I feel the same way, but for Yui's plush... Mio's I think looks actually really good, different, but good.
To achieve this hair style, you'll need to use that doll hair gel sold seperately...
the wig looks a bit lighter but other than that i don't see a huge difference.
actar I know what you feel and mean well that's today's company they just rib money out
I really don't see any difference between the actual product and the sample pictures besides the oily hair in the sample.
Might be the camera angle. I see some slight differences between the other pictures and the HS one (which is the only final product picture besides the moeyo one I assume). The face in the HS one seems a slight bit different, but might be the angle of the camera or the hair being left as is and not styled like the others. I've come to expect a few differences between the initial pictures and the final release. Still, it can be disappointing at times.
hmmmm I cancelled my order way before -- couldn't justify it, but then I don't think she look too bad, just face maybe a bit chubby?
I think in this case it's mainly lighting and camera angle.
It makes a bigger difference than most people thinks.
Starting from size... specially for smaller figures, not rarely you'll get disappointed because by the pics you thought it was big and nice, but ends up being very small and not achieving the same effect irl.
Lighting, deph of field, focus, and the whole shooting setup can make a big difference.
Because of that I tend to maintain low expectations for figures I only saw in pics.
Sometimes there are also big differences between prototype or pre-production figures and than the actual products, gotta be careful about those too.
But yeah, the best thing you do is buying in store.. unfortunately, that's not always possible but do it everytime it is. :D
She looks the same to me, the only difference is the hair style and to be honest you would need to style each doll individually to get that hair style. Basically you would need to use hair wax on the doll to create the exact same look.
If the company styled each dolls hair to be like that in the factory, then it could get damaged or ruined in the box anyway which could end up being harder to fix in the long run. Therefore most companies don't individually style the finished product. This happens with Dollfie wigs and even human wigs too.
As for the hair clips, they should be included in the box. How Azone do the hair clips is that they are actually strips of fabric with sticky tape on the back so that it sticks onto the hair. Pure Neemo Yuno from Hidamari Sketch was done like this too.
Apart from those two facts I think she looks great and still looks a lot Like Yui to me and will be finished perfectly with a few small finishing touches.
Only figures I ever ordered was from j-list and they were fine - got a Bible Black figure (bondae cast-off), Mikuru Asahina and Chun Li - other figures I bought were in Little Tokyo, so I got to see them before I buy. . . :P
It's nice to have pics from all angle before you buy, but sometimes the pics do no justice... I like being artsy-fartsy enough to fix what the pics hide... hair clips are no biggie, strips of yellow tape is an easy fix.. (lined inside, of course) I'm more leery of "bootleg" stuff than a few missing items... Anywhoo, she's cute, and I congratulate you on a cool purchase...
Yui really let herself Go XD
Buyer beware: At their best, Azone dolls look like good fan renditions of anime characters. At their worst---ugh.
This is why I only grab clothing and other bits of gear from Azone, as opposed to their character figures. I mean, just compare the Megahouse Lacus Clyne doll with the Azone one and it's obvious which is the better doll headsculpt-wise.
Why do you think I shelled out cash for the Resinya headsculpt of Asakura Otome as opposed to the Azone Hybrid Figure?
I own a few azone dolls and they are not bad. the character ones are hit or miss though. This yui is pretty true. azone uses a ton of oil to style the hair. the clips should be in the box, they are like stickers. The k-on girls are a bit chubby in the series which is cute in the doll! obitsu looks so anorexic but the range of posing is much better with an obitsu body.
I also got caught out with the production pics, but from a read of the comments here, it seems that you should be able to style the hair to look the same.
As for the hair pin.. all I could find was a set of instructions for doing something like cutting out some yellow strips from cardboard and sticking it on somehow.
How did you end up applying/making the hairpin?
wow looks like all those cake she's been eating at school finally caught up with her?
It sucks when that happens. i haven't had any problems so far stuff i've gotten from HLJ seems to match the pictures they've provided.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
