The beginnings of Steampunk Yumi and Zetto...

Posted by Ms. Geek [www]

Getting ready for Anime Los Angeles at lovely and futuristic LAX in Los Angeles' South Bay area. A couple of years ago I would be getting my cosplay ready. Now, I'm getting my dolls' cosplay together.

Sunday is Steampunk day at A-LA. So I have been busy raiding Den of Angels for steamy outfits for the both of them. I'm almost there, with a gaping exception. I also intend to make goggles for the both of them, and a nice swagger stick for Zetto.

The big problem is I need to get a nice Victorian/Edwardian shirt for Zetto, plus either buy or make a cravat for him. Once I get that, and maybe a weskit in black to go with it, I'll be set. Yumiko is almost 100% ready, but actually a pair of high-button shoes that would fit a Dollfie Dream would be awesome. However, I don't think I'll find a pair in time. Bleah.

They are posing next to a Christmas airship decoration put up by my apartment manager. He's gone looney over Christmas stuff this year. I think my kids want to go for a flight, though. They will be disappointed to know that it doesn't fly. Too bad, it's almost the right scale for them.

Yes, the dress is supposed to look a little raggedy and a little patchwork. Her character's not a noblewoman, she's a scrappy girl who clawed her way up from the slums. She desires upward mobility. She didn't know she'd get upward mobility this way...on an airship.

Very cool! I'm really digging Yumiko's dress. Zetto seems to be tapping into his inner Jack Skellington at the moment with that black-and-white pinstripe. XD

I found a site with some free Victorian patterns, though they seem to be a little lacking in the men's department, they may help: http://www.tudorlinks.com/treasury/freepatterns/index.html These are in "people size", but with the magic of Photoshop and/or a Xerox machine it shouldn't be too difficult to resize it to 1/3.

Hi all...just found a vest and a beautiful satin shirt for Zetto's outfit at Parabox. Right now they are having a US-only sale on their website for those who get their email newsletter. I had to buy parts for Zetto anyway, and I got 20% off clothing and wigs. So yeah, I'm set with both outfits except for the props.

Poofiemus: love the "Inner Jack Skellington" comment...he does look like that, doesn't he? And thanks for the tip on the site...I am going to have some serious fun with those patterns!
