Paradigmshift's Room

Posted by paradigmshift

Here is my submission for the Otacool room. It's a small room, but I make do with my otaku collection in spacing it out and trying to make it aesthetically pleasing. Excuse the poor camera work, as the lighting in my room is pretty terrible, and I was forced to use flash.

Also was able to post a pic of myself playing Left 4 Dead with 3D Vision.

Name (or nick name) - Paradigmshift, AKA Richard
Age - 23
How many years you have been an otaku - Started off anime with DBZ and Cowboy Bebop when I was young, but only seriously started collecting and joining the ranks of otaku in college
Nationality - Chinese American
Outline of your collection - ~150 bishoujo anime figures, 2 HT action figures, 8 video game figures, 1 MR lightsaber, 1 Automatic Electric Airsoft P90 replica, various other otaku merchandise such as wall scrolls, artbooks, etc
How much your collection cost - priceless to me, but the total amount of money I spent on this is probably pegged at ~15000 USD
Your fave item - Too many to choose from! The MaxFactory Haruhi extravaganza is probably my favorite anime set, while my HT Dutch (Arnold from Predator) is my most badass figure
Your website address - http://threedeecomplex.wordpress.com
Anything else you want to say - I'm also a hardware otaku, as evidenced by my 4 computers in a single room, as well as my triple monitor setup, and my 3D Vision glasses. Also a heavy gamer as well. PC and PS3 are my gaming machines of choice.

      Although I'm fast running out of space, and if this keeps up, then my room will start to end up looking like your's lightning! Utterly jam-packed with goodies but dangerous to anybody who actually wants to live there :P

        You just make sure not to overdo it XD I moved some of my stuff from my room to the guest room just so I can clean up a few things, but that room feels like it's filled already 0.o I'm surprised I'm able to fit in so much. Hopefully you won't run out of space too soon ^^;

          Unfortunately I don't have another room to move my stuff into. If it gets really bad, I might actually have to start renting off-site storage up here in Manhattan.

    Nice room set-up. :)

    Great room! Wallscrolls are awesome-finished installing mine recently (though basically all you have to do is measure here and there and nail a nail~)

    Very nice figure collection and incredible hardware! Really, its incredible!

        Thanks guys, building computers is a hobby second only to anime and gaming for me. Once new hardware comes out, I feel an uncontrollable need to upgrade or build a completely new machine.

          Ah, I don't have that urge as much - still with mostly 6 year old parts, but always spend a few hours a week mingling with my hardware-seeing how it works, where is what. I think my first victim was my GB Color - have been taking stuff apart ever since~

          I know what you mean.. If there's a job here that lets you assemble computers for customers, I'd take it even if the pay is as much as the minimum wage. Gotta love tinkering with the parts and all that stuff.

          And I love the smell of a newly built PC.. XD

            I do building computers mostly for friends right now, but if I do find some source where I can get a lot secondhand/used computer parts for cheap, I might actually start something akin to a community service where I build cheap computers for needy families so that they can go online too from their homes.

      I'm enjoying it, its one of the better sandbox games out there. Its comparable to Crackdown, if you've played that one before. Its main competition right now is Prototype, I can't decide which game I like better.

        For me, its Prototype - open world concept mastered - being one of the reasons.

          They are both good, but I still think GTA has the concept down to a tee, and the GTA cities always feel the most alive and vibrant. However, there's a different type of open world game I'm into right now called Armed Assault II. That's a hardcore military open world, where an entire island with both civilians, rebels, and enemy army is open for you and your Marines to go through doing whatever you want.

            I always had this weird feeling while playing Prototype.. I just dropped from God knows how high, timed the glide so that I won't smash the ground and the military just shrugs it off XD

      Serious air conditioning over the summer, but in the winter, I don't need heating at all, my computers all are giant space heaters! My next build might be a liquid-cooled system to alleviate some of the heating issues.

        Ah, really nice. I'm not sure how far the liquid cooling have gone since I worked at a computer store a while back, but I was told by one of the techs that condensation happens so you're computer might get screwed using liquid cooling systems. Not sure how accurate his info was, but I wasn't one to find out. ^^;;

      I also can't wait to get to New York Anime Festival this year. Yoshiyuki Tomino, a scriptwriter for Astro Boy and the director of the original Mobile Suit Gundam will be there. Talk about old school. Also Yui Makino will be there as well, she was the voice of Misaka in Welcome to the NHK and Sakura in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Hounding anime celebrities for their autographs should be my new hobby after figure collecting!

        It's really not a bad way to display your figures, and let me explain my points. It's all about line of sight, I don't care what brand of cabinet you are using, the reality is anything below knee level are outside of your line of sight when you are standing up. Sure you can stand back and look at the bottom levels but then you can't see any details and therefore defeat the purpose of having a glass cabinet. Before I picked up on the dollfie, the bottom 30 inches of all of my bookshelves are filled with books, manga, model paint, etc. Fortunately, the dollfie are tall enough that even standing on the bottom level, they are quite visible to me even with me standing up. And that's why I reconfigure my display cabinet the way I did.

          That's a great way to quantify what I was thinking in my gut the whole time I was setting up my figures. I guess I felt it would be too much effort (lol, lazy guy here) to bend over or kneel down to get a good view of my figures, so none of them ever go below waist or knee level.

            I knew I can't be the only person who had considered the line of sight problem! The problem is not being lazy or what not, it's ergonomics. Go to any art gallery and you will see nothing is positioned in a way that requires you to bend down to see it.

      Unfortunately, the motherboard in my Home Theater PC is not an ION, as it doesn't use an Atom CPU. It uses the same onboard graphics (NVIDIA 9300/9400) as an ION though, but its CPU socket is LGA775, so it uses standard Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo CPUs. There are ION versions of my motherboard out now though.
