Final Fantasy 13

Recently I picked up a copy of Final Fantasy 13.
This is the Japanese language release of course.

Personally this is my first import, and despite the expensive price of japanese games ($100), I decided I'd go for it anyway.

I'm not fluent in Japanese at all, but I've been learning and I have an interest for all things Japanese.
So, I figured that this would be a good opportunity to play the game I've been anticipating and at the same time, force myself to improve my comprehension of the language.

From what I've read, it's a fairly long game. Although there's been a lot of praise and criticism about it.

So far I'm enjoying the game, despite the slight language barrier I'm facing. Aside from that, I'm totally loving this game. The visuals are great and the gameplay is addicting. This is only the start too, the most boring part. I guess some of the criticism online comes from the old Final Fantasy fans that are looking for classics more than innovation and change. Personally I welcome change and I love the new system and how it all plays out.

Haven't really played any older FF games myself though, but I have tried them.

Anybody else waiting for this game, or imported it?

I have the game, although it wasn't actually imported because I live in Japan. I can follow the plot with my Japanese level, although I miss a lot of the details.

I've been really enjoying it, and the battle system is a lot of fun. The characters (aside from Sahz and Lightning who I liked from the start) kind of annoyed me at first, but most of them have been growing on me as the story progresses. It's the first FF game I've played on a console (I've only played the early ones on my DS) so I can't compare with the other more recent FF games, but I certainly like it so far.

Same here, my first FF ever kinda.

I played Crisis Core but that doesn't really count right?

So you liked it eh. Good for you ^_^
Been wanting to play this game, but I finally decided to save money for End of Eternity instead

I've been playing with the idea of importing this one too, as FF is way better enjoyed in its original Japanese.....but I don't think my JP level is good enough to follow the story.

    Its good to hear you're enjoying the game sofar; with all the critisism out there you'd almost think it was completely rubbish ^^;

As far as I've read, criticism is all along the lines of:
      - linearity
      - lack of towns
      - side quests
      - unlike the older games

      to which I respond:
      - linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Especially on an RPG where it's about storytelling.
      - towns are usually the most boring parts of the game for me
      - side quests do exist I heard, just not as many, but can be redone
      - personally I really hated the older systems. The new ATB System is turn-based, yet real-time at the same time. It really keeps you alert with your decisions.

I want that game cover of FFXIII. I have Lightning in the game cover instead since I bought the bundle. The first few hours are pretty dull I have to admit. It does, however, get better.
