just wanna share a bit of point of view from gals collector hereX3
i already post this on my deviantart page, but guess it won't hurt if i post it again here:
Weeks ago, i found something "interesting" case on my local online store:
a smexy 1/7 Square Enix Static Art rare figure who had a very "insulting" price tag~
only 95 000 IDR (less then 10USD)can u believe it???!!!!
Beside i saw that store also have a LARGE galz figures with "normal" price tag~
here is Nanashi (nameless in japanese meaning) from anime movie Sword of the Strangers
the movie itself was made by Bones studio (fma,cowboy bebop,etc) and it was one of my fav anime movie all time~The movie even get Grammy nominee for best animation on last year Oscar's award event and blablabla
i know this character is not as popular as Kenshin or Cloud but,
I dont know why people don't want this figure, maybe because it's MALE figure n people in my country is too stupid or too busy to know bout the anime (movie on this case)
and i still cant believe they only ask me less then 10 USD for such a BIG and wonderful item~
i felt lucky n pity at the same time, coz i felt that male character in figure industry still didn't got much attention compare to those tonz of smexy female figure with their XXL boobs everywhereTAT
hope i wrong......
but i can understand the reason behind, since 90% figure collectors are male, we gals is a bit minority here, so next time just give all your unwanted male fig for free ok?

There really aren't that many good male figures, I guess there's not really much of a audience for them. There are some good figures like the minato from persona 3, he was made into a cool figure. But there is also akiri and shiki ^^"

yeh, they should make a figure showing samurai man in fundoshi, with wild hair . . . with face options like scowling, with a smile, no expression and for bril, a handsome face! :D and maybe some Zoftig cutey for us old ecchi XP

i too want male figures but the market ain't soo high for it and partly cause my mum won't allow female figures with big oppai...( she WILL throw it the moment shes see it)

I really sympathize with your plight; except for certain series, there is really a large lack of otaku merch for the ladies - I remember your dakimakura post, and my own dismay at seeing that the latest dccom giveaway was, well, not something I would be interested in.
Even the - ahem - health stuff caters mostly to guys...but, you know, don't girls have to do that sort of thing from time to time too? (I wouldn't touch those Hello Kitty "massagers" with a ten-foot pole - Kitty-san doesn't exactly spell "sexy" to me~!)
I'm a boy and wouldn't mind to buy male figures. Not either exactly prefering female then male. So long I like the character and it's well very well made I will buy it. But then again the anime / manga I watch and read don't really have males where I think ! I want a figure of that. Well Lelouch is one though with his Zero custom and pose. And most of male figures I know off got so lame pose.
What I would kill for is a Battler PVC of Umineko sitting in his chair with his awesome cape!
THAT'S why most of the figures of popular male characters are so hard to find :(

i'm actually starting to collect a few girl figures and really like the ones with proportinal breasts (the chicks with huge ones...NO. Rider is an exception though ^^""). I absolutely HATE how there are so many figures of the same character out there. why does that Ikki Tousen (idk forgot the title because I don't really care) get so many figures when the budget put in them could be used for other series and characters that have none at all?
I know girls are the minority, but the female fanbase is growing bigger every day. I wonder when most companies will realize that they can make more money by catering to both guys AND girls? it's a shame, really :(
I hope someone like Alter joins in on male figures. the only figure company making quality male figures right now is Kotobukiya, and yet most of them are also 1/10 scale.
and hey, I know that not many guys would like male figures and I don't want to sound mean, but that's no reason to say that people in your country are stupid. maybe they just haven't heard of it at all. and remember, most guys are pervs anyway. many people that work in the industry are also men. maybe they just need more women to join figure companies. and although i'm not a man, I find the first picture a bit...weird. I mean, there are guys that are fans of flat girls and traps (in which I like both) :p

coz for Ikkitousen, it is easy to get approval for making figures from character of the series (according to Danny). For some series, the amount of money need to be paid to the license holder are expensive, in which translates to higher price for the end products.
Coming from another female collector:
There are actually quite a few good male figures... depending where you look. Probably the most Male figures you'll ever get are from BL/yaoi games. You should go look at the Nitro+ figures Kotobukiya has done. Sure they're not sexy but they're very pretty. I have the first collection of the coin figures for Lamento and two other 1/7 figures. Theres also some Togai no Chi figures as well that are simply beautiful.
I guess it boils down to what series you want. Like there aren't any GOOD Kenshin figures (to my knowledge), I personally don't like the Square Enix Cloud figures they've pulled out...
They do have have a lovely Kuroshitsuji/ Black Butler. But again its what you are interested in. I personally am not a fan of the super big breast figures, but I do like the craftsmanship of some which drives me to buy figures.
on the note of Kuroshitsuji, the PVC's of Ciel and Sebastian were exclusive and very rare now (as with many other male figures)
I noticed this, but some male figure tend to be limited/exclusive and have a very short production run. most never get re-releases at all (I think the best example of this is the first Shiki and Akira figures. they're even more rare than the military ones).
ooo he is delicious looking... only 10 dollars??? That's a crime!! I would've snagged him up for that price even though I don't know anything about him, guy figures are amazing~

But I do collect mechas, figures of girls (not necessarily w/ large boobs) and male figures (not necessarily w/ large crotch... Billy).
I guess the market of the average otaku spends more time looking at girl's boobs than anything else in your region.

Yeah theres not many male pvc figures... but there's TONS of male Super Dollfies and other male resin ball-jonited dolls, why?
Medicom makes some very nice male action figures, but they are on the expensive side... cuz they are "cast-off" lol they have removable clothes sort of like a doll but some of the cloths are rubbery materials.

Besides that, due to the lack of choice of male characters pvc figures, my male collection figure pretty much consists of tiny gashapon figures and super deformed keychains, some more full metal alchemist action figures and prize figure, a Chrno (from Chrno crusade) prize figure, a Vampire princess Miyu Larva doll and a Scryed Ryuhou doll... O_o
One series of male action figures that's making it big I would say is Saint Seiya. There's so many Myth Cloth figures, and a lot of boys collect them. Funny, I find the Saint Seiya boys kinda girly looking. I still like the series, good old school anime!
I like girls figures too, they are usually more colorful and prettier :D

I forgot to mention of the Gurren Lagann line up! While there are only big figures of just 3 males of the series, they're all pretty good if you're into the sex appeal.
