PG 00 Gundam: WTF has science done???

It seemed that I had aquired a PG 00 Gundam as a christmas gift and, since I found myself without internet for prolonged periods of time since I'm not at my usual abode, I have had plenty of time to get cracking on the little number.
...and signs are not good. The PG 00 Gundam is easily one of the most annoying plamos I have ever built and is easily one of the most annoying PG kits I have done, and I've done quite a few!!
I've still got the GN drives and the O Raiser to do so I'll do a more complete post on my blog once it's all done but Lets just say I haven't had this much trouble with a kit since my PG Evangelion Unit 1. And those of you who have built one of those KNOW how troublesome that one is!!
The kit itself does have a few new ideas put into it's design, but those ideas don't make things easier and serve to simple frustrate. I haven't had to put fingers together individually since the PG Zeta!
But the chief annoyance is that the many joints now require a mechanism whereby you must press the joint in to allow the parts to move. It's on the shoulders, elbows and knees. Sure, it makes sure that the gundam will keep it's pose intact and will never sag, but it's an absolute nightmare to put together. Get it wrong, even in the slightests, and the parts won't budge! And even when you get it right, it's not exactly smooth!!!
God, I hope they go back to the drawing board on Gunpla designs after this...
And don't get me started on the pricetag...

More issues that PG Unit 1 ?? wow. Thats pretty bad lol I had a hard time with unit 1. As for the price, its waay too much imo. I also thought the PG 00 Raiser wasnt as detailed as it should be. Glad I picked up PG GP01 instead. Let us know how the rest of your build goes !
I'm with you on that one mate, i just finished putting mine together and it was a friggin nightmare. The joints on the GN drive mounts are tiny and look very very weeak. I spent a good 3 hours reinforcing them with additional styrene and metal rods so as they dont break under the weight of the o-riser, and with the GN drives in place, its a pain in the hind quarters to access the locking mechanism on the joint in the shoulder. IMO, the PG Astray is a great deal better than this thing and a few bucks cheaper to boot
I don't know about you, but I liked most of the build. Followed closely and haven't made a mistake yet. The joints are dumb, I admit, and I haven't inserted them into the arms yet. I'm going to wait until after I paint it before finally assembling it. Still snapping the raiser and waiting for my paint to ship...(been a week since I ordered already).
The arms are the biggest pain in the arse. The legs weren't as bad due to the fact that they were twice the size of the others but the shoulders especially, gave me a lot of grief!
Oh, btw, they gave you a little disc to assemble those shoulder capacitors. I actually had an easy time doing them even without it. But then again, it varies from person to person.
Seems like the 00 Raiser is probably the worse recieved PG to date, in comparison to the previous release of Red Frame, which many have ranked "Must Buy"... Looks like bandai's Spining green LED lights, joint locks, and lack of details on this $265 beast made it one of the most disappointing plamo kits of 09 O_O
Dude...do you even have one? It is not the "Worst" perfect grade. Just because the arms may be a problem for some people doesn't mean it's a terrible thing. I mean, it does maintain pose durability for a long time to come. And the details are NOT substandard. It doesn't use pistons because their universe uses gn stripes (not exactly for it, but it's part of the design). And the GN drive is awesome if you've seen it in person.
If you happen to have bought one and don't like it, sell it to me for a lesser price and I'll take it off your hands. I wouldn't mind having a 2nd one to do a commission with.
well, it's not quite the worst PG I have built. Arguably, that would go to either the MkII or the Zeta, but the zeta had the transformation gimmick and a load of lights and wiring...
But at the same time, I would have a very very hard time trying to justify the full pricetag for this number. At 26,000 yen, I cannot say that it's worth the price. Luckily, this one was discounted but I definitly wouldn't say that it's better than a PG strike, Astray or even GP01!!
dude, the mkii pg is awesome, how could you say the mkii is worse anyway?
Because, compared to the GP01 and Seed PGs, it's incredibly blocky and unelegant.
When completed, it doesn't really give you that "wow" factor like the newer PGs. It looks just like a jumbo grade. The RX-78-2 and Zeta are the same way but I give the zeta a lot of leeway due to it's waverider transformation.
Worst-received? A good number of people who complained about the kit before its release caved in and got it anyway.
thanks for the heads up review fellas.
@ken
You mean they have a dvd to assist you?
No, there's a small part which helps hold the various pieces together as you screw them into place. The joints are basically 3 hollow, circular parts which are held together by a screw and a nut. The part mentioned just helps keep them in position as you tighten the nut.
I see...thank you.
You are weak. WEEEEAAAAKKKKK!!! :P
Wow see I just finished building my PG 00 Raiser and I have to say that it was
A. Easy to build (although this is my first PG)
B. Keeps poses and stances perfectly (thanks to the new arm and leg joints)
C. And the GN Drives are just plain cool
All in all I don't know what you are complaining about this is a great PG...
at least thats how I see it ^^
Ive build every PG bandai as released, and i have to say, structurally, yes, this is the worst PG kit since the wing zero custom. Its poorly balanced, lacking in external panel detail, some parts are lacking in structural integrity, and some of the proportions are off. FYI, the rotating joint that holds the shoulder to the torso does not hold the weight of the GN sword III. I've been building, painting and modding gunpla for almost 10 years now, so im pretty sure i know my stuff.
ya the gn sword 3 is kind of a pain for the gundam to hold up. but i found that if you extend the part that goes over the shoulder, you can make it stay in place. bandai was simply trying something new. the reason why its so expensive is because they spent money researching the locking device, it comes with the 0 raiser, a base, and 2 spinning gn drives. im very confident in believing that if they didn't have locking mechanisms, and the rotating drives, that this would have been a less expensive kit. I wouldn't be surprised if the next PG had new innovations as well.
enough complaining!
i have it, have build it, yes the gn condensers are a nightmare (just in the arms, specially shoulders) but once they're are correctly assembled and fit right in place, they work just fine.
and for the external details, come on, these gundams are supposed to not look all "robotic" with a lot of panels, armor parts that can come out, hydraulic pistons, whatever!
in the gundam 00 universe the "engine" of the gundams are the gn particles, they give the mobile suits their superior strength and mobility.
