Which Gundam to get?
Sun 2010/01/03 02:34 JST

Ok. Heres another of my what to get posts.
In the next couple months, i will be getting a PG Red Astray (Decided!).
But i havn't built a Gundam in some time now and i would like to get back into it without goin straight into the PG Gundams.
So i am now looking for MG Gundam which is of a good quality and is more suited for a mid level modeler.
So i need your help to decied on something soon.
Thanks.

The MG Exia would be a good choice, not too complicated.
The MG RX-78 ver OYW is also relatively uncomplicated, but those are the first two I can think of right now....
Here are my recommendations (not in order):
1) Gundam ver.2.0 (4200 yen): Wide range of articulation, slightly complex, but not too many armaments.
2) Gelgoog ver.2.0 (4500 yen): Bigger than the Gundam, and decent articulation. Lots of inner frame details.
3) Zeta ver.2.0 (5000 yen): More complex than the gundam because of transformation, and keeps a wide range of articulation. The weight of the Hyper-Mega launcher might be a problem posing, though.
4) Astray Blue frame 2nd R (4800 yen): Quite a monster, and has better articulation than even the PG red frame. Has PG-like features (skirt armor, for one), so it might help you prepare for making the PG. Even better than the PG, IMO.
5) Zaku II and variations (3500-4500 yen): Full inner frame, and excellent articulation. High mobility variants suffer a bit at leg-bending because of added thrusters, though.
6) Sinanju (7000 yen): Excellent articulation, but hefty price tag might turn off some people.
i got the sinanju for like 5000yen at sakuraya in japan, what a deal! HAHA! gundams are cheaper in japan. lucky them.
Good luck with the astray. But I disagree with your quality statement. MG and PG's are made from the same plastic, quality does not differ. Just because it has more parts, doesn't make a "higher level model builder."
Well the parts count really does make it harder for some people, because it may get confusing and lead to making mistakes, not to mention the complexity that a PG has when compared to a MG.
well.. I haven't touch PG so I can't answer it, but HG and MG plastic quality really differ.. I don't know is it the plastic or the process..
By better, I did not mean plastic quality. It's articulation is better than the PG, it's simpler to build, and has similar features. On a price-to-poseability and stability chart, the MG is better. PG tend to use more ABS, though, so they are a bit more... structurally sound.
MG Impulse (either sword or force) are nice builds. Nothing too complicated.
MG Exia would be a better choice. Nothing too complicated. Cos i got there as my 1st MG gundam.
I'd agree with everyone on MG Exia, great build, lots of detail but not too much. The MG Strike was also a fun build for me as well as the RX-78 ver. Ka
MG Exia FTW!!!
I recommend that you get the normal one, not the Ignition Mode (unless you want the chrome-plated part & 2 LED unit since I'm not that bothered by the Repair part).
MG RX-178 Mk.II Titans Ver. 2.0 would be a decent choice. Light, sturdy, not Red-white-blue, and gives off a general feeling of badass. It's also considerably taller than most Gundam-style models. Not very many foil stickers, either.
Also, if you're looking for a challenging kit, look no further than the Armored Core Variable Infinity line. Somewhere between forty to fifty runners, and it's the size of a Master Grade kit. It's done up by Kotobukiya, so the plastic may feel odd, but they look absolutely nothing like Gundams, and there's a Tamiya Metallic color feel.

That would be their latest kit.
I'm not sure how its built though but maybe you could try the MG Astray Blue Frame or the upcoming MG Astray Red Frame for practice for the PG ver. lol :)
If you've built a couple of MGs before you'll do fine on a PG.. Aside from the number of parts it's pretty much built like other gunpla.
You look at the manual
Get 'em from the runners
Clean the nubs
Snap fit
Now that ain't too hard right?
If you're just lookin' for a brush up of your skill, get some of the older MGs or the latest HGs... Strike variants and Zaku II version 2.0 variants are my recommendations... ^_^
PGs is exactly like MGs... it's just you had to spend more time with each individual parts... ^^;
You can have a look at my reviews on my PG RF and MG BF2R to familiarise with your upcoming getto... ^_^

MG Blue Frame 2nd Revise

like what Arein said, it's almost the same besides the number and size of the parts..^^
but for me, if it's like a preparation for a PG kit, go for the MG ex-s gundam..lots of pieces and it'll surely get you exercised for a while..:D
I recommend any Zaku II 2.0 kit. also MG RX-178, MG Kampfer. Sinanju might be a bit overwhelming if your new to MGs
I think your "level" as a gunpla modeler depends on how far you are willing to go and experienced in cusomization.
There is no difference in difficulty between MG and PG, latter only has more details, more parts, bigger and better color molding.
MG Red Frame to go with your PG Red Frame!
In my opinion, MGs are not really hard, color and parts separation give us less seamlines and thus easier to paint. So I think you can just choose the model you like ^^
yea~ Astray Red Frame~!! my fav MS and i also will bought it soon.. amyway, is Astray is the 'thinnest' MS ever?
I will suggest go for MG Blue Frame. The structure is nearly as PG Red Frame.. Take it as warm up ^^
