Sex robot dolls have arrived (updated with video)

Posted by verygreen [www]

Hopefully this is not against any rules, as this is even dolls-related. ;) The other kind of dolls.

Just found today that the world first sex robot was announced which is a sort doll that can talk and move.
Seems to be the answer to existing doll product called "Real Doll" (their site. Careful if going from work)
Apparently users of the "real doll" kind of girls were somewhat dissatisfied with how their girls were inanimate and unresponsive. Technology to the rescue! The Roxxxy is supposed to fix that problem (their website. much safer than real doll one).
Seems they are planning to release a male dolls too.

What I find interesting is the development behind the behavioral part initially was geared towards capturing sort of a "digital copy" of a person for later conversations in case of the real person death. Seems the adult industry is at the edge of the progress as always, adopting any promising new technologies.

Really, I did not even know the things have advanced so much in this area.

I wonder if a free sample is on the way to Danny and he will have a review soon? ;)

Do you plan to buy one?

BTW, if anybody happened to visit AVN Expo and can share some real pics, that would be sweet too (and the fact that it coincided with CES means a lot of people were in the area)

Found some real pictures at france24 site

The doll is kind of ugly looking, hopefully this is just a property of this particular prototype.

Also found the youtube video of the presentation.
Hearing "stop doing that" from a doll is kind of unexpected.

Quite a bit from Zettai kareshi still, though.

Well, as everywhere, I guess everything has two sides.
The real thing is not without its own problems, you know. ;) So I am totally sure there is ripe market for such toys (I did some research and real dolls are already pretty popular it seems. Might have something to do with high upkeep and high divorce costs for "real things").

still, doing it with a piece of machinery in the place of an actual person is pretty messed up

I bet they made this same kind of argument back when radio started, then when TV started, and probably much earlier too.
You know, some technology advantages are directed to bring you the maximum benefit at the least cost. If you do not want children, I guess you might not need real woman too (it the imitation is good enough, of course).

you got that right... unless this pieces of machinery turns out as realistic as the real thing like some "H" shows it just so wrong... this is a sick world we live in i mean really sick, thou that's only my point of view

I am sure they'll work the kinks out of it in due time (or their competitors will advance).
Once they do, business of "women for sale" is in danger which is probably a good thing.
I can imagin in not so distant future such "toys" would become accepted social norm (kind of like vibrators in certain parts of the world).
After all we even have countries like China where number of women is much smaller than number of men.

I think the problem here is two-leveled. Firstly, the technology still isn't there yet. I mean, she looks pretty dead to me. That uncanny valley is still to large. Once they start looking and acting like real people (I mean so much so that you can hardly tell the difference) then it wouldn't seem as creepy or gross. (past the uncanny valley).

Secondly, we have the social stigma of what is labeled as acceptable or not. Remember that guy that "married" a video game character? Much like how that guy in Chobits married his Persocom, the reaction of acceptability becomes questionable, until more and more people start doing it.

With advances in robotics, you really couldn't of not seen this coming. I think it raises a pretty serious issue with society as a whole in the long term when you could have a dream partner in the form of a robot then many would see no need for a real biological family in the long run. Kinda sobering actually.

Well, this is already apparent problem in the developed world. Children are fewer and fewer because people don't want the burden and technology makes it easier and easier to prevent child-birth.

And when the nation as a whole becomes too old, what will happen then (Japan seem to be on this way, my understanding is median age in Japan is pretty high), who will care for them?

Cook and clean is a functionality you can purchase separately even know.
Ready made food to only heat up in microwave ovens (as one of the examples).
(delivery services if you are too lazy to shop in person are available too)
Various robotic vacuums (like iRoomba) can do sort of automatic cleaning even now, I heard.

I guess this is different for everybody. I can care less about that (the naked in apron thing).
Besides, they announced plans to make male robots as well. Somehow I doubt girls (the real ones) wish their boys did cleaning and cooking in apron for them. And that's not something they look for in anime as well ;)
