Space Adventure Cobra 六人の勇士

Posted by Wolfheinrich [www]

I seldom talk about anime in general because there are plenty of blog site that cover those area; but when when I heard about the new sequel of Space Adventure Cobra coming out in this season, I feel that it’s my turn to say something about it because, well.. it’s an old boy anime! It’s been over 30 years since the manga came out back in 1978, it was later adopt into an animation in 1982. I watched Cobra when I was a little kid in primary school… it was leap and bound ahead of most animation of the time, it was a futuristic science fiction back in the 80s and it still feel very fresh when I acquired the DVD set a few short years ago.

I was looking around in youtube trying to locate the original Cobra OP since it's got a nice tune to it and all, but I was in shock that I couldn’t find a decent one at all…. so, it was time for me to take the matter into my own hands! I took my DVD set out and ripped the OP video file.

Found a more modern looking opening with the same tune, which should give ya all a better idea of the show.

Just who is this Cobra guy you ask? Well, he is a space pirate, has a signature weapon, “Psycho-gun”—a cybernetic arm-laser connected directly to his brain and capable of targeting enemies without having a line-of-sight; he is very tough and is nearly unkillable. Like the other manga draw by artist Terasawa Buichi 寺沢 武一, such as Goku Midnight Eye, Space Adventure Cobra is filled with very gorgeous looking women wearing bikini style clothing, quite a shocker back in the 80s, mind you… but they were never being portraited as being any less significant… it was just the artist’s idea of futuristic clothing for women. The original TV series focused on the Cobra’s encounter with Captain Nelson’s triplet daughters, Jane, Dominique, Catherine and their quest to the greatest treasure of the entire universe.

I am keeping track of this new sequel so far, probably the only anime that caught my old boy interest this season.

I've heard of it a long time ago, but never able to catch any of the old ones, but the fact a new version of the anime is coming out I decided that I'll check it out. I've been sitting on it for a while, but I think I'll watch it soon.

space adventure cobra is the reason why I fell in love with anime when I was a small child. I am liking the new series but it feels weird watching it with clean animation.

Cobra is good, young folks should take a look at it and see what animation was back in the early 80s.

This brings back memories. Remember seeing most of the original series when I was a kid, when it was aired (dubbed) on French television shortly after its original run in Japan back in the ’80’s.

Also reminds me of the other anime series I saw around that time, like “Saint Seiya”, “City Hunter”, “UFO Robo Grendizer”, "Maison Ikkoku"…

Saw a few blips of the first episode of this sequel/remake just for nostalgia. Most anime fans especially the young ones should have a peek at this series just to see how anime has evolved over the years and how different it used to be.

Wow, I'm impressed! Saint Seiya, City Hunter, UFO Robo Grendizer and Maison Ikkoku represent some of the best work of the Golden Age!

Cobra was great back in the early 80s and it's good even now, I just rewatched some of the episodes and it still enjoyed it very much!
