Old School Armory
This Holiday season I've been upgrading my armory While visiting home my enthusiasm for my new investments reminded my mother that she had a few camera put away dating back to when she was in college. Including a Zeiss Ikon. I thought the history lesson was interesting enough that some people here might care to see.

I remember as a little boy my mother letting me look though the viewfinder and play with the focus mechanism.

What my mother actually used the macro lens for, I have no idea.

I don't think I had ever seen a camera when the accordion style expansion in person before.

This is the shutter release lever. LEVER!
If your mother will let you use all these fantastic old-school cameras that would be rather awesome.
Except, of course, for the fact that these guys only take old-fashioned rolls of film, and there aren't a lot of stores around that still process those. And not everyone has the space or time to learn how to make a darkroom and use it well.
WOH !! that Zeiss is a real prize - I have some roll film that would fit it and somewhere is my developing tanks _ I'm sure I can get chemicals. Brings back the memories of my days at UCLA :D thanks for the flash-back.
BTW, after the Polaroid discussion the othere day, was meaning to point this out too you (incase you hadn't already seen it) http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/the-polaroid-instant-camera-is-back-105489
Looks like Impossible Project's up and running too.
Hey, thanks. I was stumbling around the interweb after our chat and saw the post - I posted photos of my Polaroid collection on my blog. :D
Oh man, that Ikon's awesome. What sort of condition are the bellows in? Still lightproof?
Love the old Minolta too. I learnt the basics of photography on my Dad's Minolta SLR, they're great cameras.
Awesome to see more old film stuff starting to surface around here.
I think the bellows are still lightproof. tho i didn't inspect it THAT carefully. They are little collapsed on the one side, so it might get in the way physically.
I got my degree in (product) design, so i really get a kick out of seeing things that really count as "design history"
tho the last film camera i used (besides those disposables) was one of those short, wide ones kids got to have cause they were only $7.
old school !! love it.
icon is awesome! really cool for me XD are these girls still active?
Neither of them have been used in a long time, but im pretty sure they still work. i did test out the shutter on the Ikon while it was out, it seemed to work just fine. But i don't even really know where to get film for it.
