Figure.fm Server Move

Posted by Danny Choo [www]

Update - will do the server move tomorrow morning JST so you can carry on posting and commenting at figure.fm without the fear of loosing anything.

Within just a short time, figure.fm has grown into a bustling community of figure/gundam collectors with brilliant photos posted every day. The photo below shows you the current home of figure.fm - running on a few mac Mini's in my cupboard ^^;

Mouseover = load notes.
Figure.fm Server Move

Will be moving figure.fm to some cloud servers in the US and are going to give SliceHost a whirl. We was going to initially use Amazon but bandwidth costs are much higher.
Cloud servers are virtual machines which can be cloned and spawned in minutes/seconds.

We will flick the DNS today so if figure.fm goes walkies for a bit then you know where. Keep an eye on my Twitter for updates.
If you see posts or comments go missing then its because we missed your stuff just before the snapshot. Snapshot will be taken late afternoon today JST.

Mouseover = load notes.

Screenshot of figure.fm users - top being the US with a healthy bunch of Japanese readers - although they prefer to read rather than contribute ^^;

You will know when you are on the new servers because Mirai-chan will say so.

    cool. makes sense moving to some real servers. any downtime from now will be the server guys headache now. also since most of the traffic is from the states the bandwidth to dc.com will free up considerably i suppose (if its still on your mac minis in your home)

    Woo, Go UK. In 7th place!!!

    Surprised by the number of japanese users tho. I thought the chart would look like the countrys defence budget spending, with the US having more users than the rest of the top 10 combined...

    I thought China would be about 5-7%
    Maybe DC is censored or blocked.
    I'm amazed that Germany beats France.
    Interesting stats - most useful.
