MG Wing ver Ka

Posted by GNdynames [www]

I completed this thing just last week and I was having a hard time deciding between this and my MG Strike E IWSP. In the end, this one looks a lot cleaner so I'm entering the contest with this.

As mentioned perviously, I have had a tough time deciding on which Gundam to use, mainly because every kit was built using different methods, given different kinds of final treatments before setting on display etc. At the end of the day, I decided to send off this guy in, mainly because, unlike my other MG kits, this one really stands out with a distinct difference in colouring (All of my other kits have a darker colour scheme) and the weapon it carries (big rifle). Admittedly, this is also the kit that gave me the most grief, and thus taken up more concentration than any other kits.

A few things were different with this kit, and I'll mention them briefly:

1. The first one is airbrushing. With all of my previous kits I handpainted them, but I decided to invest in an airbrush and this baby is the first to be painted by it.
2. I tried using hobby cement and sanding technique to get rid of seam lines.
3. The kit was scratch built, taken apart, painted, and then reassembled.
4. Gray parts were painted via spray can. Parts were taped onto a newspaper and the sprayed over.
5. Clear plastic parts were given the clear paint with silver backing treatment to give it a more realistic and deep look.

    I bought this one as my first MG because I couldn't find the Wing Zero Custom... but then I found it and realized the body for both kits are the same...

    The bright colours look awesome! You didn't fully apply the decals? XD

      I applied 90% of the decals but used none of the stickers.

    VERY Clean! and so smooth O_O. I have to say... without the decals/stickers on, I noticed some extra details on this model than I didn't notice previously. ^^;

      I spent nearly an hour rubbing off dirt and stuff that somehow got on the body. After my first attempt with stickers on my Zaku, I decided to stay away from them from that point on. Unfortunately, most of the markings for this kit are in the form of stickers -_-

    it's too plain. i was expecting the Ver KA's infamous vision overload decals!! but nonetheless i like the painting. very neat.

      It's actually infamous overload of stickers (Most of the decals go on the wings or the gun). That's why the body has no markings on it.

    Very nice. This is my second best mobile suit of all time! (Wing Gundam normal anime version being the first one...) I haven't built mine yet but I think I won't apply the stickers and go with custom decals to give it a more ver. Ka look like the box art. I don't really like stickers or decals on most of the gunplas since they don't reflect their anime counterparts, but with Katoki's models, you just can't miss them! One suggestion thought, you should do a bit more panel lines, like the face marks, shoulder, chest, skirt and buster rifle. Good job and good luck!
