KOS-MOS (Alter) Ver. 1

Posted by duckie [www]

This version of KOS-MOS has been on my wishlist since I first started collecting figures 3 years ago. I had played with the idea on buying her on eBay many times. But every time I looked, she was at a price I couldn’t bring myself to pay. BUT THEN a miracle! Alter re-released their 2nd version of KOS-MOS! although Alter’s 2nd KOS-MOS release is called version 4? No idea why, maybe it’s her 4th look in the games? I made myself very content with that figure and pushed thoughts of the first version out of my mind. On a whim one day I looked for her on eBay and was THRILLED to see her for sale at a reasonable price. Well I admit the auction had her at more then what I paid, but when a seller has the “Make an Offer” option active, I can’t help but try and get a detter deal!

This KOS-MOS may not compare well to the Alter figures of today (that cost twice as much) but I think it's still a GREAT figure! I think the pose of this figure is striking, it’s simple, but it really grabs my eye. I love that she is twisting to look back at you, not many figures have an angle like this one. I also kind of like that the gun is in the hand that is on the other side of the figure. Seems like she is dangerously concealing her weapon! I’m a sucker for female figures wielding guns, so this figure appeals to at least one of my weaknesses/fetishes already.

I haven't played the Xenosaga games yet, right now I'm just a fan of the character design of KOS-MOS.

Back in 2005, this KOS-MOS was like the greatest thing ever. Because the sculpt was the bomb. But by today's standards, it's subpar, and doesn't look like her much. Her version 4 counterpart on the otherhand is ridiculously well made.

Yup, you hit the nail on the head. Back when I was looking for her a few years ago she was one of THE figures to have. For the most part I've decided to not look back and buy older figures, that is unless I see a price I agree with (like in this case).

This is an excellent figure. My first PVC figure in fact, I also fell in love with her character design even more after seeing Kos-Mos through the Xenosaga trilogy.

I had a few opportunities to buy Kos Mos for around $40 when I was in Japan. I'm happy I waited and got the ver. 4 instead. The figure captures what she is in the game. A slender robot who kicks butt with a triple barreled mini gun. You should check out the BOME Monsieur KOS MOS. I think thats how its spelled.

That was one I wanted too, the BOME one. But I'm not actively looking for it, as much as I like BOME figures I'm really not willing to pay much for them. Like $20 max.

I'm in the same dilemma right now as I'm trying to get the Ver.4 KOS-MOS in battle gear. Prices are marked way too high. Dx I already have Alter's Ver.1 and Swimwear KOS-MOS.

I remember I bought her from eBay a few years back cuz I loved the pose and her character design as well. I probably paid a silly (high) price for her too back then but I thought she was well worth it. I think I paid 70-80$ ish which was expensive for pvc figure back then.

That was about normal retail price for her, but yes, it was on the expensive end. Why are figures now normally 70 and above? I remember a few years ago 40-65 was about the average price range in America. Now 40 is the new 70 and 65 is the new 90-100. Is it because figure makers can now get away with charging more? The USD hasn't weakened that much.

I thought it was because they've been able to improve the quality so much. Maybe the newer technology costs more? But in the end I can't say for sure.

Have the original Alter Kos-Mos too, bought it a few years back at a sale on archonia.com. By today's standards indeed she may not be top notch, but it's a nice figure with a great style and pose.

She was one of the first figures I bought. I don't think I got her on sale like you did since I wanted to get her so bad. She looks great with the other Kos-Mos!
