Woah, didn't know about this. Pretty recent figures and stuff shown in these videos.
Great documentary, thanks for the vids, just watched them all >.<
Amazing. Cospa even sell Mio's shimapan. (^.^)
Interesting documentary. Seems very recent. The narration was a little condescending at times, and I don't think they very well understood the subject matter considering some of the things written for the voice-over, but it was still an interesting watch.
I liked the last point the most. It's true that people pour time and money into cosplay for very little perceivable gain, but it is very much about being part of a community. I'm glad they ended on that statement because it's very true.
I concur! (^.^) Though I don't think you could call the narration 'condescending'...
I would. Particularly at parts where they discuss motivation. Lines like 'seem like a bizarre form of idol worship' and things of that nature. Maybe that is a bad example but it's the occasional statement like that I'm referring to.
Wow, that was such a great documentary. The final part spoke so much truth that touched my heart. Really, it's what everyone is here for, celebration this wonderful subculture.
Nice to take a look at our subculture from a different perspective. Though the only thing that annoyed me about this documentary is that they constantly reused a lot of the shots... Hm...
Most complete & up-to-date documentary on Otaku culture, statements are true to life. Another worth mention documentary was "Japanorama" by BBC in year 2002~2007 which covered everything on Japan's unique cultures.

Thanks Gordon for sharing this ^_^
Really good documentary. I could relate so much regarding the acting part and living in a conservative society. I am happy to know that acting in cosplay is big in Japan and worldwide because I use to think only the look was important and that I was one of the very few who enjoys the acting element if it. It still surprises me that when the two amateur cosplayers were talking, they said that most people wouldn't be caught dead eating in a restaurant in cosplay or if one went somewhere for a photoshoot they would be stared at. I know Japan has a conservative society but you would think they would be used to this, giving cosplay is big in the media. Maybe time will change.
cospla is the "people's" theatre, like theatre in Shakespeare's time - no suits and fancy dresses - can eat and talk and take flash pics, etc, etc, etc. :D
I understand now. People tend not to mix their acting lives with their ordinary lives. People need to separate fantasy from reality. It interests me the different rules of acceptance in different societies.
here in the U.S. there is a group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) - they cospla medieval times with festivals which includes armor, swords, etc. Used to have Renaissance Fairs which is basically what SCA is like. so like during the week the people that I know who are SCA members, work full-time jobs and cospla Medieval/Renaissance stuff on weekends or at big meet-ups. :D
That is cool. I think in England they have something like that too, as dressing up in Medieval clothes is big there. Not sure if there is such a society in Ireland. I like the whole secrecy with cosplay in a way. It makes it more exciting just waiting to get home from your busy life and transform and be another person.
Finally watched all of it. ROFL .. its true about the Aussie one, too many conventions! Eeeep!!
Glad to know u guys and girls like it. ^^;
