Otaku Crafting - The WaoHana Project In Progress

Posted by Takako [www]

While I've been a fan of movie stars and bands and singers and even the occasional mecha or two in my life, there's one thing I had never done for all of those fandoms where there were real people: send them fan stuff. You know, like write them letters or send them cards or little gifts.

But this year I'm now working on improving my crochet, and someday maybe to open up a little business in that direction. So I'm kicking off my ambitions by creating a set of items that I will be sending away as gifts from a fan.

That's Wao Youka in the brown pants and shirt, and Hanafusa Mari in the dress. (Yes, they're both women.) They're my absolute favorite Japanese personalities right now. After they graduated together from the Takarazuka Kagekidan, they formed a talent agency called the Wao Enterprise; Hanafusa serves as the manager/agent, and Wao is the main talent.

I've been blogging the progress of these gifts over at PJ Goes Pop! so do drop by if you're interested.

Here are Wao and Hanafusa during rehearsals. When they were still part of the all-female Takarazuka Kagekidan, they rose to become the Top Stars of one of the troupes in the organization, Sora or Cosmos.

These two photos show the two hats I've made for Hanafusa Mari. They are, incidentally, the first hats I've ever made!

This is the scarf I'm currently making for Wao Youka. Since she loves Experiment 626 a/k/a Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, I'm making her a scarf in that character's colors.
